About the property

5 bedrooms 3 bathrooms - sleeps ten + cot

Bay House, Durrus, Bantry, is located at the very head of Dunmanus Bay, with stunning and uninterrupted south facing views.

Durrus village sits at the head of the Mizen and Sheep's Heads peninsula - a great base for exploring West Cork & Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.

It has five beautifully appointed bedrooms, consisting of three double bedrooms rooms looking out over the bay (each with a king-size bed), one has an en-suite bathroom with bath, power shower and WC. There are two twin bedrooms located at the rear of the house with two further bathrooms, each with a separate bath, a power shower and WC.

All bed linen is pure cotton. We also have a travel cot and a high chair.

The living area consists of a generous open plan living/dining/kitchen area with American style fridge/freezer, blu ray 5.1 surround sound, 46' LED flat screen TV, iPOD dock, leather sofas, dining table to seat 10 and log burner.

Wifi is free of charge and covers all areas of the house. Separate utility room with washing machine/tumble dryer and dishwasher. Sun porch (also doubles as children's playroom). All of the living and sleeping accommodation is on one level.

There is a large table with benches on the outside terrace. The house is spacious and very well equipped. .

In front of the house is almost an acre of lawn with direct access to a shingle/slate beach and sea waterfront - buckets and spades are provided for crab catching! .

Whether you are enjoying a break with family & friends in West Cork, a golfing trip (Bantry Bay Championship Golf Course is only 20 mins away), your cookery course at The Good Things Cafe, Durrus or a painting holiday with some of the most spectacular scenery on our doorstep, Bay House is the perfect place for you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautifully appointed and equipped, with very spacious, luxurious ambiance .. perfect for 10 .. us, two sons and their families.

Panoramic windows look out across huge patio and vast lawn sloping down to the foreshore and spectacular views of Mizen and Sheeps head peninsulas with sunsets over the mountains and wild Atlantic We awoke each morning to the sound of the mussel boat collecting in our inlet..

We Grandparents enjoyed private suite at the far end, with raised roll top bath, endless wardrobe space and outside access (plus interior/ soundproofed door!) .. all 5 bedrooms and open plan living areas have polished wooden floors, superb soft furnishings, fittings and furniture.

The grandchildren (3/4/5/6) were thrilled with the playroom containing masses of exciting toys/buckets spades/fishing nets etc. together with excellent outside space for treasure hunts, pushing prams, playing British bulldog or just chilling.

An example of attention to detail which makes this place perfect is that Chris meticulously mows grass and removes every thistle with a screw driver, so little (and big) feet can frolic barefoot easily on the lawn!

Adults enjoyed all the books, games, BBQ, welcome pack, loungers, comfort, excellent kitchen and washing facilities but most of all the views .. we wanted for nothing .. Debbie greeted us .. and said farewell .. but it felt as though we had the entire house/grounds /beach to ourselves for the week,

We can recommend the 1 1/2 k walk to OSullivans in Durrus village for early supper .. Ryan's for shopping, Crookhaven for pub lunches, Barley Cove for sandcastles, boat trips to Seal Island/Glengarries and one very exceptional day, having a celebration seafood lunch at Arundels by the pier at Ahakista, followed by driftwood fire on our very own beach at night .. magical!

Fantastic house and a perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks at Bay House. We loved every minute of it. The house itself is extremely well appointed. Everything is of the highest standard. The beds, duvets and pillows are excellent quality and very comfortable. The view from the lounge area is simply beautiful. The play area full of toys and perfect for our five year old. The garden and woods gave plenty of scope for fun for all our children. At the end of the garden you can access the sea - we spent a lot of time on the beach, paddling and swimming and watching the tide. Our party comprised three generations and Bay House suited all our requirements. It is very spacious, extremely clean, comfortable, cosy and the layout makes it ideal for families. Debbie, Chris and Faith were available if we needed anything - the perfect hosts. Bay House is within striking distance of Schull, Mizen Head, Sheep's Head, Bantry, Crookhaven and many other beautiful areas in West Cork. We cannot recommend this house highly enough. We have rented houses and villas in Ireland and abroad many times. Bay House was, without doubt, one of the best.

Beautiful property in a quiet location in west cork.

  • 5 of 5

Our family(10 adults and 1 child) had a very enjoyable holiday in Bay House,Durrus in June. The location is fantastic - right on the waters edge and the the views over Dunmanus Bay are stunning.

The house itself was fabulous and had everything in it to make our stay very comfortable. All the furniture, beds, bed linen, towels etc were of a very high standard. There was a well stocked toy room for kids and lots of books and games available for adults . I would highly recommend Bay House as a holiday destination. Anne & family.

Very comfortable property with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We had a really enjoyable family get together at Bay House. We had an age range from 3 to 78 and there was something for everyone.

The house is very spacious and well equipped.

The garden is huge running down to the beach on the inlet.

Debbie and her family were very welcoming.

I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing stay in West Ireland.

This is a spectacular property and location. This is our second visit and we will return again

  • 5 of 5

This house is of the highest standard and finish with loads of room for everyone. The location is also superb, right on the waters edge overlooking the bay. We didn't get the best of weather this time around, however the fact the the house itself offers so much in regards space and view it is easy to relax and chill and look out over the mussel beds with a glass of wine. The proximity of Durrus and Bantry make short trips out for lunch and dinner an attractive option and it is a great base to explore further afield down to Mizzen head or around the Sheep's head peninsula or up to Glengariff. Well worth a visit, I thoroughly recommend it and we will be back. Also Chris and Debbie are very welcoming and warm hosts and very helpful (but unobtrusive). The week flew in as usual. Might need to book longer in future! all the best

The property and its location were absolutely stunning and it was a joy to wake up there every day.

  • 5 of 5

The house was set in the beautiful bay and the majority of the rooms (all but two) looked out onto it. The setting is peaceful but everywhere easily accessible by car.

The house was very well equipped and had plenty of room for everyone. Beds were extremely comfortable and bathrooms well equipped.

The kitchen and utility room were equally well equipped - washing machine and tumble dryer located in utility room so they don't impact on the living room area.

The outside space was the crowning glory with two large tables with benches provided (slate one is fantastic) where you can enjoy the outside views and eat and drink al fresco.

Lots of walking can be done in the local area.

We used the local pub a couple of times - this can be accessed via the wooded lane (roughly just under a mile).

There was never a feeling of being cramped and all rooms are very airy.

We spent the most fabulous week in Durrus and this property definitely enabled us to do this....can't fault it.

Thank you Debbie and Chris (owners)

Bay House is a superb waterfront property, in a truly spectacular and private setting. We consider our location and stunning views to be some of the finest in West Cork. Set in 1.7 Acres and approached by a half-mile quiet country lane, Bay House and gardens overlook Dunmanus Bay. The views reach for over twenty miles, out into the Atlantic, over the Sheeps Head and Mizen peninsula and with a backdrop of the Beara peninsula. Stone steps from the garden sea wall lead straight onto a slate/shingle beach. Many claim to be waterfront but we really are the real deal!

We are open all year round and offer 3-day breaks at off peak times.

The Mizen peninsula's sandy beaches, including Barley Cove’s beautiful Blue Flag beach, are just a short drive away and the Sheep's Head peninsula with the Goats Path is famous for having many miles of scenic and rugged walks.

The friendly and lively village of Durrus is only 1.5 km away (within walking distance), where there is a grocery shop, pubs, lovely restaurants and a Café. There is also a post office and a general hardware store that also sells fishing equipment. The historic waterside and market town of Bantry is approximately 8 kilometres away. Here you will find many more bars, restaurants and a larger supermarket, also offers online delivery (supervalu.ie).

The Mizen peninsula's sandy beaches, including Barley Cove’s beautiful Blue Flag beach, are just a short drive away and the Sheep's Head peninsula with the Goats Path is famous for having many miles of scenic and rugged walks.

Within easy reach are: Bantry House, Mizen Head Lighthouse, Glengariff Bamboo Park, Schull Planetarium, Ewe Sculpture Garden, Waterfall Alpaca Farm in Drimoleague, Cape Clear Island, Fastnet Rock & Garnish Island.
