About this property

La Grande Berce Solidarity gîte near the Platêau du Yagour, High Atlas

Solidarity gite

The gîte "La Grande Berce" is part of an inclusive approach that generates income for the village of Aguerd. The inhabitants of this village live from animal husbandry, agriculture and the income of migrant masons who work all over Morocco. Its population decreases from year to year because the young people, finding no job opportunities on the spot, end up leaving the village.

Our cottage is a tourist project which aims to create jobs and wealth in Aguerd, enhance its natural and cultural heritage and keep young people who want to work and live in their village.

Our gite is intended to be a locavore supplying foodstuffs within a radius of 60 km maximum.

The carpets that cover the floors are made by the women of the village with scraps of recycled fabrics (bouchourouite) or with the wool of sheep raised in the valley.

The store on the ground floor is a place of exhibition and sale of village crafts; but also a place of exchange and creation for artisans.

Finally, 10,000 to 15,000 DH will be donated each year to development projects carried out by village associations.

The House

On the upper level, a large living room with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, fitted with comfortable traditional mattresses (sorodor) for the hiker's rest.

A furnished terrace on the roof of the gîte from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley, perfect for sipping a mint tea and taking meals under the sky during the summer months.

The lower level is dedicated to a local craft workshop where women make traditional carpets, basketry, blankets, jams and couscous, for direct sale, without intermediaries.
At the intermediate level, 5 bedrooms:

    3 bedrooms with 4 beds
3 shower rooms and 3 separate toilets
1 suite consisting of two bedrooms and private bathrooms.

Berber cuisine

The traditional Berber meals are made by Abderrahmane with natural products, at most from the village's production, and are served on the large common table, or on the terrace.

Location of the gîte

GPS: 31. 275576, -7. 655928

31 ° 16'32. 1 "N 7 ° 39'21. 3" W

The cottage is located in the village of Aguerd, about 65 km from Marrakech, including 59 km of paved road (about 1h30) and 6 km of track to be covered on foot or by 4x4 (2h on foot, 40 minutes in 4x4) .

You have several options for accessing it, detailed below.
- You have a 4x4 and are a driver worthy of the Paris-Dakar

You can go to the gîte on your own, taking the direction of Setti-Fatma from Marrakech and branching off at the village of Tazitount (link), 6 km before Setti-Fatma, (only hard bridge after the succession of small wooden bridges in the valley) on the track which goes up to Aguerd. Attention, the track is very steep, in poor condition, and dotted with hairpin turns
- You have a car but prefer to park it wisely in Tazitount

Meet at the foot of the track that leads to Aguerd, taking the direction of Setti-Fatma from Marrakech and stopping at the village of Tazitount (link), 6 km before Setti-Fatma, (only permanent bridge after the estate small wooden bridges in the valley).

You can park your car in the small car park 10m before the bridge, for 10 dirhams per day and 10 dirhams per night, to be paid to the caretaker upon departure.

=> For the continuation, consult the paragraph “From Tazitount to the lodging, 45 min once in the 4x4, 2h on foot (track)” below.
- You don't have a car

The journey is easily done alone in two stages. Be careful not to leave Marrakech too late, to arrive before dark.
From Marrakech to Tazitount by collective taxi (1h15)

The collective taxis that serve the Ourika valley leave near the Moulay El Yazid Mosque, at this precise location (link). Ask for a collective taxi for Setti-Fatma; the known and official rate is 30 dirhams per person.

Shared taxis only leave once filled with 6 passengers, so sometimes you have to wait a little.

Shuttle from Marrakech to Tazitount

For the Marrakech-Tazitount route, there are private taxis (up to 6 people) from Marrakech or from the airport, towards Setti-Fatma (the waterfalls).

From Tazitount to the gîte, 45 min once in the 4x4, 2h on foot (track):

A 4x4 shuttle is provided by several vehicles during the day between the village of Tazitount, at the foot of the track, at bridge level, and the villages in the valley. Ask for Aguerd's direction so as not to find yourself in the neighboring village of Tizi N’Oucheg and lengthen your expedition by a small hike of 40 min.

4x4 taxi: 10 DHS / person (1 €) but you have to wait until the taxi is full to leave
    privatized 4x4 taxi (immediate departure): 150DHS (15 €) up to 15 people

Make sure that the driver stops you in the village of Tazitount (link), 6 km before Setti-Fatma, at bridge level (the only permanent bridge after the succession of small wooden bridges in the valley), otherwise you will need turn back once you have landed at Setti-Fatma. You can check with your GPS that you are not crossing the Tazitount bridge.

Other "private" taxis can offer to take you alone and will then request 200 to 300 dirhams for the race.
on foot from the foot of the track to the gîte: approximately 2 hours.
