The spa has both indoor and outdoor pools (heated to 36 degrees), sauna, steam rooms and solarium. This is an ideal location for those who seek a fantastic get away at one of Bulgaria’s top skiing and spa resorts.

Bansko town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has narrow cobbled streets with stone houses, 120 cultural monuments, museums and permanent ethnographic exhibitions. In the centre is The Holy Trinity church with its 30m high bell tower and clock, splendid murals and wood carvings. In summer hiking, climbing and horse riding are popular. Local companies can organise trips in the mountains e.g. white water rafting, canoeing, paragliding. For après ski the traditional Bansko tavern ('Mehana'), with their exceptional charm and style offer local atmosphere with their cuisine and good selection of Bulgarian wines.

As the cost of living is very cheap, your money will go much further here than in skiing resorts in other parts of Europe.

About Kim Oliver and John Dennington

We are a British couple living near London. We purchased Chalet 541 in 2006 and have never regretted this decision. It is so relaxed at Katarino and is surrounded by the forest - London seem a million miles away!

Our 3 son's regularly ski in Bansko and this property has become our second home.

Kim Oliver and John Dennington purchased this chalet in 2006

Guestbook comments from the manager

Chalet superb, clean and spacious, lots of room in hall for our ski gear. Short bus journey to gondola no problem, worth journey to stay at katarino. Prices in Bulgaria really good, will definately ski in Bansko next year and return to this property.

John & Kim I should have reviewed your property years ago. Sorry.

I have stayed regularly at your chalet over the past three years both with and without my children. Being a resident in Bulgaria for over four years now, I can honestly say that Katerino is without a doubt the best managed resort I have stayed at anywhere in the country. The location is fantastic, facilities superb and of course the chalet itself is clean, well laid out and comfortable for a family of four.

I will definitely be returning soon.

A stunning property in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

First visit to Bulgaria and to Katarino and couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The weather was cold but the chalet was warm and very comfortable with everything you needed for a first class stay. The property is well maintained and close to all amenities. Going back next year and would recommend to all my friends .

Perfect getaway in a clean well presented chalet!

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was absolutely wonderful - clean, tidy and had everything we needed for a great stay. Kim was great too - she responded to any questions and requests we had very quickly and was lovely to deal with.

I have recommended it to family/ friends and we will definitely be staying here again next time we visit Bansko!

Thank you for a great stay!

Fantastic Ski Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time skiing with the family. We are a family group of 5 who wanted to try a winter holiday of skiing with a spa element.

The chalet was brilliant. Set in a very picturesque part of Bulgaria, it had plenty of space, all the basic amenities you'd want and was only 10 mins from the slopes by shuttle bus.

We went into town a couple of times during our stay, but the chalet & hotel restaurants had everything we needed.

An added bonus to the chalet was the spa facilities, which were clean and needed after a long day on the slopes! We'd heard that spa's in the centre of Bansko town were not as good as Katarino.

Kim was very helpful throughout our booking and we will definitely recommend to friends and return ourselves.

Thank you again for a great holiday!

Great Location, Amazing Views, Brilliant Facilitie

  • 5 of 5

Chalet was in a great location and had amazing views, the property was clean, well-maintained and attached to the 4* Katerino Spa Resort. We were welcomed by the Chalet manager on arrival and given all the information we needed regarding the chalet, resort, transfers to Bansko, and best places to eat in the area. Bansko is only a 15 minute transfer from the hotel (available all day), numerous restaurants, bars, clubs to enjoy after a full day on the slopes.

The facilities at Katerino Spa were very impressive and we enjoyed the full spa and treatments. I would highly recommend this chalet for a family holiday, a group of friends get away, or a nice relax enjoying the spa facilities or just simply sipping wine in-front of the log burning fire.

Poorly Maintained

  • 1 of 5

I chose to stay at this property as it was adjacent to the spa hotel and described as self catering. The apartment was dirty, one bed broken, wall lights above bed broken, bath leaked so constant wet feet, little in the way of cooking facilities/equipment, you can rustle up breakfast but not evening meal. Bathroom sink cracked, no plugs for either sink, safe not working.... Contacted owner for compensation/refund but no reply!! Also transfer time 2.5/3 hours. Very unhappy, mainly due to being ignored by owner who I feel should be offering compensation. I wouldn't recommend this accommodation.

Owner's Response: As this is the first negative review the chalet has received in 9 years we would like to address the points mentioned... The dirt mentioned was mainly accumulated by the back door, which had been repaired by workmen and the small amount left over was not swept up afterwords. The client stayed over the New Year period – additional cleaning was organised and sent to the chalet to address this. The broken bed was caused by a previous user of the chalet which was not reported. The chalet sleeps 6 so there were spare beds available for the party. Naturally this has now been repaired. We are looking into the broken light mentioned. The safe has been looked into and has not been reported as broken. We are aware of the hairline crack in the bathroom sink which is planned for replacement at the end of the season. It does not affect the sinks function and does not cause any leaks. The kitchen comes equipped with an oven, microwave, kettle, basic utensils such as cutlery & pots/pans, sink and running water – the essentials for basic cooking. Most guests eat out as it is so cheap to do so. These kitchen details are listed in the HomeAway chalet advert, as is the details regarding transfer distances from the airport to the chalet. We must stress consistent, regular communication was maintained between the client and chalet owner throughout the clients stay. This is of paramount importance and has always been the case for the 9 years the chalet has been used.

Bansko is the newest and the most rapidly developing ski resorts in Bulgaria. 40 million Euros have been invested, to create a top rate facility with the best equipment, including a new gondola, snow guns, electronic ski pass system. There are 14 pistes totalling 65km, including a 16 km run plus cross country and excellent off piste skiing. Bansko is popular with snowboarders; facilities include a half pipe. There are several ski schools for all levels of ability, including children. For snowboarders and the more advanced skiers there are challenging off piste.

Ski and snowboard equipment can be hired at Katarino Spa Hotel. Plenty of hire and ski school options at gondola in Bansko.

Opposite the complex, approx 3km is one of Bulgaria's first Golf Courses 18 hole, par 72 designed by Ian Woosnam. The complex has several restaurants.
