Wonderful family vacation
We had an absolutely terrific stay with three generations of family at La Grande Loge in October. Christine was an amazing host, from start to finish. She made us feel welcome and accommodated in her wonderful property. The house is beautiful, inside and out, and the location was outstanding for visiting chateau and other sites of the Loire Valley. We had three kids (ages 5 and 3) who loved playing outside. We even went in the pool despite the cool weather. We highly recommend La Grande Loge for a great family stay.
Beautiful property and gardens
We loved the house, and gardens which are beautifully finished and extremely well equipped. The garden has stunning roses, a great pool area, ping pong, and great garden and pool toys. It even has a couple of resident red squirrels. Azay Le Rideau is a lovely little village, with nice bars and restaurants and useful amenities. The chateau is breathtaking! We had a wonderful family holiday and would highly recommend the house. The road closest to the house can be a little noisy at times, but you soon get used to that and its worth it for the house.
A delightful week in the Loire.
Our extended family of seven adults enjoyed their stay at the lodge. Big enough for everyone to enjoy their own space if desired. Very close to the local supermarkets and a wide selection of restaurants in the pretty town. This is the perfect base for anyone wishing to explore the Loire region of France.
Fantastic holiday, fabulous property
Spent 2 glorious weeks here in August, mixed family group with 4 children. The house is simply beautiful, full of history and character with high quality furniture and accessories. Very comfortable beds and great kitchen.
The outside space is fantastic, plenty of room for the children to play, brilliant pool with lots of extra pool toys, badminton, trampoline, table tennis, swings.
Azay is a beautiful little town, very friendly and welcoming. Very handy to have 2 supermarkets within easy walking distance. Lots to see and do nearby. Fun morning canoeing in Azay. Also highly recommend the zoo at Beauval for a day trip and worth a trip to the local wineries.
Madame Touze was a perfect hostess and all communication and booking was completed with ease.
One of the best family holidays we have had, perfect mix of fun and relaxation. Very sad to leave. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Thank you Emma .. it was a real pleasure to receive a family as pleasant and happy as yours.
And the cleaning ladies were very pleasantly surprised to find a house so clean on your departure.
All your next hosts can look forward to welcome you ....
Where do we start. Location is fantastic - central to chateaux on all sides within an hour's drive to Chambord to the east and less than an hour to Chenonceau in the other direction. At a micro level there is a Carrefour market within a few hundred yards that has all the food and vacation supplies you'll need, a gas station and a car wash. Paul bakery is also in the same complex. Can't beat the location for access to everything you need but yet being in the country.
House itself is everything the lovely listing pictures indicate. It is immaculate, and a joy to discover. Kitchen is modern and WELL equipped. The pool is clean and was a lifesaver for us with kids - they'll put up with a long day of chateauxing if they know the pool is waiting at home. The owner (Christine) has seemingly thought of everything in terms of fitting out and equipping the house. Pool toys, pool towels, great kitchen appliances, great WiFi, lawn games and equipment, Owner's manual is comprehensive. She's put together a great tour guide that's in the house that covers all the known high spots and some that are not so known in the area. Every time we thought "I wonder if there's an X in the house" we found it without having to ask.
The house has lots of doors and windows for cross-breezes even on warmer summer days. And shutters and curtains for blocking out bright sunlight when needed. And it seemed to have heaters in all the right places even though it was in the 90s (F) while we were there and we didn't need them.
Aside from the practical, the house (and indeed the entire property) is charming beyond words. We often were torn between leaving and staying to go out to eat or sightseeing. It felt like home to be at this house.
Christine was easy to work with. She says her English isn't very good but it is excellent in fact. The folks who cleaned the pool and met us at the house when we arrived and as we left (Christine wasn't available either time) were friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful.
It is a beautiful and very complete comment and I am very happy that this family loved this house and everything I prepared to make their stay enjoyable... my great regret is having only seen them for a few moments.
The house was immaculate at their departure and the ladies, who were there to clean, recommend people so nice and pleasant. Thank you David !
Loire Valley House Review
The property is located in a quiet location that is most pleasant. Christine was most helpful from the onset of our stay until our departure. I highly recommend this property.
