Beautiful, peaceful property with everything you'd need, great location.
We had a lovely stay here. Christine was really helpful. She told us all we needed to know about the area. When we asked she was only too happy to tell us the fascinating history of the property and she entertained us with her dry wit and stories of her childhood. Christine was most hospitable but not at all intrusive and very much left us too it.
The pool was lovely and warm, the huge garden was enclosed and great for the kids. The house itself has lovely furnishings and everything you could need. The garden is private and secluded. There's a long tree lined drive from the road to the house so you barely hear anything from the garden.
The is a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery etc. very close and the nearby village of Azay le Rideau is quite lovely. There are plenty of little places to eat and excellent butchers, bakers and patisseries for your daily needs. The chateaux is lovely too. Smaller than others but very well priced entry.
Thank you Christine, we loved our stay, we'd definitely come again.
Christine, we had a wonderful stay in your lovely home. The kitchen was well equipped, the bathrooms and kitchen were supplied with plenty of nice towels and were immaculately clean. The location was quiet, comfortable and restful. You were very available to help us when we had questions on sight seeing and house questions. If we are ever back in this area again we would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
Wonderful house perfectly situated among the beautiful towns and chateaux of the Loire Valley.
My husband and I invited our son, daughter-in-law and two little granddaughters to join us at La Grande Loge for a week. We thought it would be good, but had no idea how perfect it would be. A gorgeous swimming pool, huge property to run around, even a trampoline, makes it ideal for children. The peace and beauty of the place make it ideal for adults. Walk to town or to the local vintner to pick up your champagne or wine, eat at home (lovely, well-equipped kitchen and outdoor barbecue) or in any of the local restaurants and your only problem will be to ask yourself why you only rented for one week, not two.
Beautiful and perfect for our family!
What a wonderful experience and a perfect location. Madame Touze could not have been more welcoming and helpful! The house is magnificent and truly fully equipped for a holiday for all ages. Our whole family from grandchildren to grandparents enjoyed it immensely.
Famille très agréable... et qui parle très bien français !!!
Stayed here as one of a group of 7 cyclists. The house is beautifully appointed and very elegant, and thankfully cool in the heat. The gardens are huge and lovely, and the large pool is brilliant (although there is a bit of distant road noise it really doesn't spoil it at all). The house location is great since it allowed for numerous cycle rides to interesting chateaux - Chinon, Chenoceau, Villandry etc - yet is within walking distance of Azay with its range of restaurants. Having said that, the large kitchen/dining room was so good for social cooking and eating that we only went out twice. It is also within walking distance of a vineyard that makes excellent sparkling wines. The only small downside is that although 2 of the bedrooms have ensuite showers and the other 2 share a good bathroom, none of those have a toilet. Instead, there are 2 separate toilets, one off the kitchen and another by the side door which is a bit of a juggle with 7 or 8 people in the house. Also, there was a hint of damp in our bedroom although it didn't matter because we had such good weather.
A Gem in the Heart of the Loire
La Grande Loge is a magnificent place to stay during a visit to the Loire Valley. As a group of four Canadian couples, we recently returned from biking in the region and spent an idyllic seven days enjoying this sumptuous and historic manor as a starting and ending point for each day's adventures. It is perfectly situated in central Loire near the small, charming village of Azay-le-Rideau and is easily accessible from Paris by train or car. Everything you need for a memorable vacation is close at hand - groceries, winery (Chateau d'Aulee has good whites), bike rental, a chateau, cafes, even a farmer's market which boasts amazingly fresh produce at this time of year. Yet its location at the edge of town, surrounded by farmers' fields, is very peaceful and feels like a country setting. You might even have a visit from neighbouring cows like we did!
The Loge itself is an exceptional home, and as other guests have mentioned, the pictures do not quite capture the size, grandeur and special feeling it evokes. The kitchen has all the "bells and whistles" and is well-stocked with equipment and staples, the bedrooms are roomy, the furniture/beds are very comfortable - we all slept well after days of touring and biking. There are 3 shower rooms, modernized and clean, and two separate rooms containing the toilets. The weather was hot and sunny during our stay so we really appreciated the easy-to-operate pool and the HUGE yard, filled with exquisite roses, in which it is situated. We spent every evening meal outdoors - a highlight!! For children, it is an ideal place with trees and lawn that extend forever, perfect to explore and play games of tag and soccer. There are also tons of pool toys and bath towels. Despite the draw of the many compelling sites in the local area as well as the neighbouring villages and towns, we so enjoyed the lawn, garden and pool that one day was devoted to relaxation of all this outdoor space had to offer.
If you are considering a group or family trip to the Loire, La Grande Loge is definitely the place to stay - we highly recommend it!
