About this property

Green Energy Home - High Peaks, Keene, Keene Valley, Whiteface, Lake Placid

Welcome to High Rock Fort! This low energy use property up on beautiful Corliss Point near Hurricane Mountain was built and available for its first visitors in August 2016. With two fire pits, a wood burning stove, wrap-around deck and other luxuries, this well-stocked Adirondack vacation home is ready for those who want to mountain climb, ski or just watch the hummingbirds. High Rock Fort has spacious comfort on 15 acres of secluded, peaceful, mountainside in the heart of the High Peaks Region. High Rock Fort is a close drive to Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort. The home is nestled in a private woodsy setting in the summer (mountain views in the winter), 1 mile above the hamlet of Keene, close to the charming towns of Keene Valley and Jay. With games, fusbol, puzzles, croquet, lawn darts, sleds for the winter, dvd collection and hummingbird feeders, visitors will find plenty of activities.

The home has a circular driveway to help entry and exit and ample parking surrounded by wooded views (mountains in winter). The outside features a spectacular wrap-around deck, wood fire pit, and comfortable deck furniture surrounding a gas fire pit, gas grill and spacious yard with plenty of room games to be played. The covered entrance has motion sensor lights to help when you arrive late. Inside, the home was designed to meet the needs of Adirondack vacationers wanting a restful or active experience. The house sleeps up to 10 people, and features 4 bedrooms (plus semi-private bonus room) and 3.5 bathrooms. You will enjoy a large open floor plan, including a modern kitchen and large dining area that opens to a great room with vaulted T&G ceilings, Vermont Castings wood-burning stove, chess table and Adirondack furnishings. A simply wonderful space for playing games, enjoying a fire or the view with family and friends. The bedrooms are comfortable and designed for groups or families. Master bath with soaking tub, separate shower and double sink vanity. Other baths have tub/shower. All floors excepting the basement are hickory wood.

Most of the house is on the main floor with three doors to the deck. The large windows face mountainside and are designed to maximize the view of woods, mountains and birds. The open floor plan includes a very generous kitchen, including all granite counter tops, a breakfast bar with 4 aspen-wood chairs, and stainless steel appliances (including a 4 burner stove, oven and microwave, dishwasher, large refrigerator). The kitchen has a K-Cup machine, Mr. Coffee machine, teapot, toaster, blender, electric knife, rice cooker and most else you need to prepare a gourmet meal or simply a snack. The kitchen is fully stocked with glassware, plates, bowls and many other niceties. The kitchen opens to the dining room, facing the sliding door windows and enjoys a large table to sit up to 8 people, when extended, with table linens provided.

After a long hike or big dinner, settle in the Great Room and nestle into the large, leather, sofas to work a puzzle, play a game of chess on the game table, play a game of Jenga, curl up with a book or maybe just grab a nap near the warm, cast-iron wood burning stove (wood provided for warm toasty nights). Two ceiling fans with lights allow for air movement and plenty of lighting in the great room for readers and puzzle makers. There is a bluray player, wireless speaker and projector in the Great Room for watching movies in the evening.

On the main floor, the master bedroom is furnished with a queen size adirondack bed made of sassafrass wood with a comfortable quilt, side tables and accent chair, letting you get cozy to sleep or read your favorite book. Enjoy the oversized walk in closet and attached bathroom, which includes a large custom shower, separate soaking tub, private toilet, long double vanity and linen closet with plenty of fluffy towels.

Headed up the custom Aspen-wood staircase to the loft, there are two loft bedrooms. The first has two full size beds, the second has a ADK style Yellow Birch queen bed. The loft bedrooms share the upstairs full bathroom. The full room also has a flat screen television with a bluray player and collection of dvds provided for viewing. This room also has a collection of games and a large walk in closet. A desk has been added to the loft for you to plug in phones, tablets or computers, to stay as connected as you want to be (if you are not distracted by the view from the desk which overlooks the Great Room windows). The home also has satellite wifi, a cell phone booster and a traditional landline (local calls only).

Headed downstairs to the fully finished walk-out basement with two sliding glass doors for plenty of light, you will find the fourth queen bed bedroom is tucked away, staying cool in the summer and having its own heat for the winter. A semi-private bonus room has a dresser, bunk beds and queen size futon, as well as its own heating. The rec room has a Foosball table and sitting area complete with a work desk, 4K flat screen tv, blueray player, wireless Bluetooth speaker, dvds, comfy couch and side chair. The rec room also has a full size futon for larger groups. There are two sliding doors off the walkout basement, with croquet set, badmitten, lawn darts and even two swings under the deck.

Outside, the spacious deck was built to use. You can utilize the vast deck area for cooking on the gas to coal grill and feeding a large group or just enjoying the view. End your day with a respite at the gas fire pit to chat about the days events and what is on the schedule for your next adventure. A set of sassafrass rocking chairs allows you to have peace watching the woods or birds. In addition to the gas fire pit on the deck, a wood burning fire pit adorns the rear grounds.

The Adirondacks has much to offer year round. Each season brings a special opportunity to those who venture out by offering some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine and endless activities to keep everyone busy. In the Summers you can enjoy things like hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, mountain climbing, and fishing , while in the Winters gearing up for downhill skiing, snow shoeing, sledding or taking a ride down the Olympic Bob Sled. When Fall arrives stay with us for a long weekend and soak in the colors of nature like you have never seen before (Maple, Oak and Walnut trees adorn this property). For those who just want to relax, enjoy a soak in the Ausable River or at Chapel Pond and shoppers, don't feel left out. Antiquing, arts & crafts and farmers markets at Marcy Field and elsewhere are all part of the local flare to easily fill your days. You can find all the finest shopping and restaurants within a range of 2-20 miles and never be bored.

Breathtaking view!
The house was plenty large enough and clean, with a beautiful mountain view! The location feels private, as there are woods around it. The road in was steep (as stated) 4WD will be a must in inclement weather.

Great Place
This is our second time staying and my family was again very pleased with the house. The house is spacious and roomy for groups, everyone was very comfortable. The owners are extremely responsive and answered every question quickly. The house caregiver was also very responsive and helped out with our questions. We will definitely come back for our annual ski trip.

We are a mountain climbing family with the children going up Owl's Head in backpacks before they could even walk!

Why they chose this property

We have been climbing mountains and enjoying the Keene area for years and wanted to create a group and family friendly space for us and others to visit.

What makes this property unique

This house was built with the environment and energy conservation in mind. It is a low energy house (we will be trying to get to zero), with being good to the planet in mind. From the tongue and groove great room to the aspen stair railing, we have carefully designed this home to be a place of respite for mountaineers, skiers and other adventurers.
