Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 2 full Baths, lots of space dining & livingroom

Built in the late 1700s this is one of the first homes built in the area but updated to have the comforts and conveniences of modern day but the charm of the past. 5 bedrooms; 4 bedrooms upstairs- three rooms with King size beds and one room with a queen & double bed. The upstairs landing also has a double pull out couch. The downstairs has a trundle bed with two single beds. All major appliances and the hot tub is operational from April to October. There is high speed internet and Bell Expressvu tv.

The Old Stone Home is located in a picturesque shallow bay, with very little boat traffic as the bay ends several hundred yards past the home. The shipping channel is two miles/three kilometres away from both homes, so there is no chance of someone being swamped in a canoe by the waves of a 1000 foot freighter. Bring your fishing rod, the fishing ranges from good to great! We have several kayaks that you can use during your stay. Your vacation home is situated on the hill will allows for a beautiful panoramic waterfront view of the mighty St. Lawrence river. When raining there is an upstairs is an enclosed deck . Large patio with tables and chairs to have your meals outdoors and fire bowl on the patio or you can have a fire down by the river.

Area attractions include- Fort Wellington (famous in the battle of 1812) in Prescott, Fort Henry in Kingston, Upper Canada village, Chrysler park, wild life Bird Sanctuary as well as within an hour of Ottawa

The owners home is to the east and there is a shared dock and there is a screened in gazebo and open air gazebo for your use.

This is truly a fantastic place and a wonderful place to spend a couple of days or week with your family and friends.

About Christine Joli-Coeur

Both Randy and I are relatively newbies to the area having lived her just under 20 years.

Christine Joli-Coeur purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why Christine Joli-Coeur chose Prescott

When we first purchased we had been living in a smaller cottage in the area for a number of years. Initially we thought to rent it for a few years and move in when the kids were older. The advent of our third child made us rethink and we built a home a bit south and west of this historic home. Why this home? When I first walked in the home I had an ovewhelming sense of history. A glimpse of the past. This home is one of the pioneer homes of the area. It is truly one of the most historic homes in the area and we feel honoured to be able to share it with others.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Really nice place for large families or a couple of families. Lots of space to eat either at the kitchen table or the formal dining room table (both fit more than 10). So you don't need to pack up the chess or monopoly game at meal time. Lots of place to get away from the action like the second story closed in porch with a beautiful view of the river, sit on the large window sills in the bedrooms to read a book or outside on the large interlock patio overlooking the St. Lawrence river and Island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I would like to share with you some kind words from our recent guests. "We certainly enjoyed staying at your historic rental home on the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The feature we particularly enjoyed was the large patio facing river. We took our coffee there in the morning, relaxed there during the cocktail hour and cooked the entre for most dinners on the open wood/charcoal burning fire pit. We also took advantage of the kayaks you provided and the large eat in kitchen. Of course, the fact that your part of Ontario is truly beautiful also helped.

We also appreciated all the advice, biking maps, activity information, etc which you provided. This support was facilitated by the positive relationship we developed during the initial correspondence and personal contact once we were there and which I believe can be one of the best features of the VRBO program for both the owner and guest. I try to establish similar relationships and provide similar support when renting our own second home in South Carolina via VRBO.

Thanks again, "

Amazing committee getaway

  • 4 of 5

Prior to our hectic week running events and training volunteers my committee and I had the great opportunity to stay at this lovely cottage. The lake was beautiful, the hot tub soothing and the homeowners were nothing but welcoming and accommodating. The place was large enough to host all 8 of us comfortably, and the house was beautiful and well-kept. Some of us took the kayaks out to sit under the bridge while the others took an opportunity to relax in the sun by the dock and snack at the picnic table. We all had a fantastic time bonding and will definitely be recommending the property to future committees!

Elegant house with a lot of stories to tell

  • 5 of 5

We were a large group of 6 adults and 6 kids aging from 7 to 13.

We used the house as a base for our day trips to Ottawa and surroundings. The time we did spend in we had a chance to enjoy almost everything house had to offer: we cooked, we played piano, we played board games, did some BBQ (gas grill needs some TLC though), did some laundry, we soaked in the hot tub: we did it all!

I wish it wasn't that windy, otherwise, we would do some kayaking too.

Pease of advice to the future guests: arrive before the dusk. It's so easy to miss the house in the dark!

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful century home was everything we hoped it would be. It housed our large family very comfortably and enabled all of us to be in one space while visiting with family and friends in our hometown. We hosted a luncheon with extended family and each of us were very impressed with all the large rooms in the house. Our host Christine was absolutely amazing. She made sure our visit was comfortable and to our utmost satisfaction.

Perfect for our family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Super comfortable and lots of space. Kitchen well equipped with cooking gear and lots of plates and cutlery. You’ll need to bring your own spices and condiments. Truely lives up to its description. We’ll be back for future family stays.

River Lee - all that it says and more!

  • 5 of 5

We all enjoyed our stay at River Lee. It was just perfect for our annual WOW (Women on Wheels) get together which we have been doing for about the last 20 years. We used to bike but now we do other things.

River Lee was one of the few places we stayed at where we each had our own bed and even our own bedroom. As well as all the bedrooms we really enjoyed the dining and living rooms with the large screen TV and especially the patio and hot tub. The kitchen was so well equipped for preparing our meals. Although we didn’t have time to kayak we did enjoy playing washer toss and croquet down by the river. The setting was so ideal.

Randy was very helpful seeing to all our questions. We really appreciated Christine's reference to the books in the livingroom. Two of us live in century farm houses ourselves in other parts of Ontario and were very interested in the history of the house.

There was lots to do in the area, so much that we couldn’t fit everything in. At Fort Wellington, even though there were no guided tours that day, they treated us royally and we learned more than a guided tour would have given us.

Everyone was so friendly including the owners, daughter and dog, Laci. All in all a great place and vacation. It would be perfect for a family reunion with lots of equipment for kids to play on and even a piano.

Nice time once more

  • 4 of 5

We had a good time catching up with family in the area. It was our second time at this location. Children especially enjoyed improving their skills with the kayaks. Suggestion would be to prune vegetation around the entrance way and fix the cement on the stairs to make it easier for older visitors like myself. We all really appreciated that the house was large enough to allow us all some space. Lots to do in and around the area.
