About Jo-Ann Markowski

Lyle & Jo-Ann.

Age 60 ish

We both live on the property.

Jo-Ann Markowski purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Jo-Ann Markowski chose Malua Bay

My name is Jo-Ann and my partner is Lyle. We live on this 9 acre property where we let the cabin. My partner was a landscaper but became disabled because of failed shoulder surgeries. We lead a simple life and both love our natural surroundings. We are both animal lovers and have domestic pets. Unfortunately we can't let guests bring their own pets to the cabin because the birds there have become very tame and I don't want to spoil that. We really love it when people come from the city areas and can enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by nature. A lot of our visitors come from the city to de-stress and love the cabin and it's surroundings. They quite often say that have never had a better nights sleep.

What makes this cabin unique

Set amongst bushland on a rainforest creek and backing onto State Forest. Abundant wildlife eg kangaroos, wallabies, possums, wombats, echnidas and diamond pythons. Large population of native birds, parrots and pigeons difficult to see elsewhere.

So Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The location of this cabin was perfect for the relaxing, carefree holiday we needed. It was beautiful sitting on the verandah watching the bird life that visited us. Lyle was keen to make us feel welcome and catered for. A lovely holiday, thanks.

Nice getaway

  • 4 of 5

Getting away for a few days to the cabin was the change of scenery we needed.

Lyle our host and raconteur extraordinaire was invaluable with local knowledge and we were not disappointed with his recommendations. The cabin was basic but clean, plus the birdlife, wildlife and surrounding nature was a little pocket paradise. Thanks Lyle and Jo-Anne. Siry & Kevin

Heaps to explore on the best part of the NSW coast

  • 4 of 5

Lyle and Jo-Ann are perfect hosts, offering whatever level of engagement you're after. Jo-Ann handled our booking with prompt and courteous phone calls and emails and made it really easy. Lyle is a generous and charismatic walking encyclopedia of the area and directed us to the hidden treasures of this part of the coast. Coming back to the calm and peace of the cabin at night after adventurous days with our children was heaven, greeted by bountiful bird life and an easy kitchen to navigate. We played cards, explored the property and really best of all, enjoyed locally caught blackfish that Lyle procured for us...some of the best seafood I ever tasted. It was a very wet season so mozzies were terrible everywhere but we handled that in the usual ways. Great to have a washing machine over a week long holiday with kids...loads to do in this area - really, we were there not for luxury but for peace, time together and the world's best beaches, all within 5 to 30 minutes drive away. Mogo zoo is also a must see, make sure it's a morning visit as the amimals are all feeding and alert! Great holiday.

Dunns Creek Downs

  • 4 of 5

A simple cabin set amongst the trees. We ate all our meals outdoors in the paved courtyard in front of the cabin under a big tree. It is a quiet spot with lots of birdlife. Lyle keeps the place clean and tidy.

Rosedale Beach

Dunns Creek Downs has one very private 2 bedroom cabin (sleeps 5) set on 9 acres that backs onto State Forest. It is a fully self contained cabin that is carpeted with leather lounges and reverse cycle air conditioning. There is a large covered deck with a barbecue overlooking a rainforest creek and a paved courtyard with an outdoor setting.

We are situated half way between the tourist towns of Batemans Bay and Moruya. We are a 3 minute drive to beautiful Rosedale Beach and Guerilla Bay with their many secluded coves and beaches. We are a short distance from clubs, shops, the Tomago River (boat ramp) and the tourist village of Mogo.

The cabin is surrounded by native gardens inhabited by abundant bird & wildlife. We have identified over 50 species of native birds, including several pigeons - some of them are rare & can only be seen in a rainforest setting. There are bird feeders in the garden. We have compiled a bird book and supply seed and binoculars.

The property backs onto the Mogo State Forest, with its many bush tracks, and is situated on a hill behind Rosedale. We are 200 feet above sea level - on hot days when temperatures are soaring, arriving at our property is like a breath of fresh air, in the winter months we don’t have the cold winds coming off the ocean.

There is plenty of room; you can use a paddock for a game of cricket. Children love exploring and seeing the birds and wildlife in their natural surroundings. Adults love the tranquility.
