Overview

About the property

2 bedroom cottage on 80 acres in the heart of the beautiful Clare Valley

Nestled under the gum trees by the creek, two-bedroom Glen Morris, 6km north of Clare, offers peace and seclusion.

Situated on 35 ha of rolling hills, the heritage-style cottage enjoys stunning, unimpeded views of hundred-year-old gum trees.

During winter you can curl up in front of the pot belly stove and read a book, or toast marshmallows over an open fire, outdoors.

In all weathers the beautiful property has something to offer. Enjoy meandering walks through the trees or let the kids run free, and the dogs off-leash to romp on the grassy slope.

Your cooked breakfast (local bacon, farm eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes) can be eaten in the dedicated breakfast parlour. Alternatively, you can walk through the French doors onto the back slated courtyard and enjoy more lovely, unimpeded vistas of trees and paddocks from the table and chairs by the secure (yet discreet) dog run.

The charming, character master bedroom with its white-washed walls and Edwardian dressing table has a queen-sized bed with Posturpedic mattress. The view through the window overlooks a swathe of gum trees.

The second bedroom has two singles and overlooks the front verandah. (Some couples like to put their children to bed before retiring around an open fire a few metres down the slope beneath the gum trees. Childish cries can easily be heard while parents can enjoy some outdoors respite.)

No other building or road blocks the country views in all directions.

BOOKING NOTE:

Children under 17 are charged at $30 per night (for the first 2 nights and $20 thereafter) while those under 2 are free. A porta cot and linen can be provided upon request. As this is not a booking option, please request a quote.

COSY COMFORT

Linen and electric blankets are provided while a pot belly stove and reverse cycle air-conditioning keep the slate-floored sitting room comfortable, year-round.

Foxtel provides inside entertainment while outdoors, guests can take advantage of abundant firewood for a bonfire on the slope between the cottage and the creek bed. There's also a gas BBQ.

Dogs love it and birdlife is plentiful, including a variety of parrots, and kangaroos are seen most days.

Restaurants, wineries and a first class golf course are easily accessible. Clare township offers good shopping facilities while the Clare Valley is noted for its fine wines, excellent wineries, scenic drives and the beauty of its trees and rolling hills. The area has an unspoilt rural charm about it.

For the cyclist or walking trail enthusiast, the popular Riesling Trail follows the old train line between Clare and Auburn (22km). The trail passes close to wineries, restaurants and scenic spots. It is sign posted and the full trail does not have to be negotiated.

About Ted Nettelton

In 1983, the Nettelton family bought this beautiful 80-acre property and, over the next ten years, built all three cottages from mud brick and wood, and planted 25,000 trees.

We're very proud of the seclusion and serenity it offers guests and their pet dogs. There aren't many properties where you can truly 'get away from it all' since the main road is several kilometres away and the natural wildlife and birdlife is abundant.

Why Ted Nettelton chose Clare

Perfect for writers and artists who want to create, or families who want to explore.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

"You've got to love the serenity!" (To misquote from my favourite Australian movie The Castle.) And yes, I know we've said it before...

And the seclusion and the beauty. Yes, it's a gorgeous, cosy, comfortable cottage , but if you want peace and quiet and beautiful views, it's right there on your doorstep.

Lovely relaxing stay

  • 4 of 5

Cute rustic cottage in a lovely, quiet area. Stayed two nights. Plentiful breakfast supplies provided, especially appreciated the gluten-free supplies. It would have been nice to have shampoo supplied though. Otherwise, everything else we needed was there and very suitable for two couples.

Seclusion and peace

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Glen Morris for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Tanika and her family have created a quiet haven not too far from Clare, that feels like you are miles from anywhere. The cottage is set amongst old gumtrees with a creek out the front that we cannot wait to go back and see running in winter. The cottage is very comfortable and the verandah is the perfect place to spend an afternoon reading or whatever. Take your binoculars to watch the birds and kangaroos. The stars are amazing. Tanika is so friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Actually stayed Jan 2016.

Glen Morris cottage

  • 3 of 5

Rustic cottage in a beautiful woodland setting. Comfortable for 2. Very limited storage space (clothes/food). Generous breakfast supplies. Basically equiped kitchen enough for simple cooking. Slate floors throughout, so great for dogs. Effective heater. Quite small wet area shower with curtain. Very friendly/helpful owner. Low standard of cleaning lets the cottage down- thick grimy dust on light fittings, doors, pictures frames, squashed mossies all over walls/ceilings, general dust on surfaces.

Quaint and cosy

  • 4 of 5

We had just one night at Glen Morris, but could have happily stayed longer especially had the weather been warmer and we could have sat outside and enjoyed the rural atmosphere. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable with generous provisions for breakfast, sufficient wood for a fire all evening and flowers everywhere. Thank you Tanika.
