Overview

About the property

A beautiful restored cottage for your romantic getaway or your family holiday.

Joseph's Cottage is heritage listed and recorded by the National Trust as being of historical significance. It is in a relaxed setting with spectacular views of Mount Wellington from the rear and the Derwent River at the front. The front verandah is just the place to sit and enjoy a pre dinner drink - watch the sun go down and the city light up. All this and you are only a short 15 minute walk to the centre of Hobart or a two minute drive. The bus stops across the road as well.

Fully self contained with kitchen & laundry facilities as well as conservatory style dining room which is the perfect place to eat breakfast and plan the day.

In winter sip complimentary port by the huge open fire at the end of the day. In summer perhaps a barbeque in the traditional cottage garden would be more appropriate. Listen to the birds and admire the views.

Property

This Georgian cottage has three pretty bedrooms; the master bedroom with queen size bed. There is also a double bedded room and a twin bedded room. The beautiful bathroom has an extra large bathtub with shower, toilet and handbasin. A portacot is also available should this be required for infants.

Locality

Joseph's Cottage has two great eateries within two minutes walk. Paesano is a wonderful Italian restaurant that is well established and is very popular with locals and tourist alike. If you don't feel like eating out they also do a roaring takeaway pizza trade. Tell Domenic I sent you! The Lansdowne Cafe is a popular place for breakfast or lunch.

Joseph's Cottage is central to all that Hobart has to offer. Salamanca market, the museum and the wharf are only a 20 minute walk away. Mount Wellington is THE place to take a drive on a clear day. The views of Hobart and the surrounding areas are spectacular.

Joseph's Cottage is just the place to base yourself for day trips out of Hobart as well. Mount Field, Port Arthur, the Huon Valley and Richmond are all an easy day trip away.

Poor value

  • 1 of 5

The cottage was not up to the standard of the description. The front gate is broken & the whole house was in need of a good clean & tidy up. The book shelf was overflowing with out of date brochures & newspapers. The oven door was missing the front panel & the inside was thick with grease. The rental is certainly overpriced for the standard of the accommodation.

Lovely old cottage in need of some TLC

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here 8 years ago and loved the place. However, the property is now in need of some TLC (front gate has loose palings; back door won't shut unless its locked; power point not working in bathroom). The cleanliness has dropped off as well (mould on shower curtain and walls of bathroom and oven looks like it hasn't been cleaned for years). We particularly stayed here again for the open fireplace, however no firewood was provided.

The property is still a cosy little cottage, just disappointed with its current condition.

Ideal

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was ideal for our family holiday, with two adult sons. It is within easy walking distance of the city and local shop and public transport. The view from the front veranda is spectacular. The amenities are fantastic, we especially appreciated the lovely deep bath. It was wonderful to sit around the dining room table in the sun, playing the board games thoughtfully provided. The kitchen contained all the equipment we required to cook, if we stayed in and the owners had supplied some basic foods. We enjoyed staying in an historic cottage with modern facilities such as free wifi.

Easy booking and check in. Lovely property with character and a warm fire. Located close to cool Italian restaurant and a supermarket. Park close by for kids. Walk or short drive into town.Toys and portacot provided for children which was greatly appreciated. Enjoyed our stay. Authentic property.

old world charm

  • 5 of 5

If you wish modern glass, this is not the place. This is old world worn quirky character. We really enjoyed this old house and its charm. Not for everyone.
