Featured in Fine Home Building's, Great Houses Book...one of 20 small homes selected in the US to be in the book, a unique one of a kind beautiful very private home, walk to Poipu Beach.... Swim at Poipu Beach, considered one of the best beaches in the world. Pristine crystal clear water with outstanding snorkeling. A unique private home, Pua Hale is an enchanting Japanese style one bedroom Poipu Beach vacation home close to Poipu resort areas, The Sheraton Kauai, Waiohai Marriot and The Hyatt Regency. It is located on a quiet residential dead-end street about 2 1/2 blocks from Poipu Beach. There are no crowded condominiums and hotels near Pua Hale. It is your own private house near all the resort areas but is surrounded by a high wall and fence on a quiet dead end residential street. Wonderful swimming is a 5 minute walk away at the Waiohai side of Poipu Beach. Pua Hale is beautifully decorated with antique Japanese furniture, comfortable nicely upholstered furniture and beautiful sliding shoji screens. A deep soaking tub for two, which was featured in Fine Homebuilding, enhances this wonderful home. It is not furnished with the usual Hawaiian condo type furniture but instead with beautifully coordinated furniture and art. It has its own walled tropical garden with a Japanese style bamboo waterfall. TVNC# 4209, Tat # W02611614-0

a recent guest said"We stayed at Pua Hale in April, and it was wonderful in every way. The home is just as described and shown in the photos – it has such a peaceful ambiance. We loved the Japanese style and accents. Carol Ann has supplied everything you need for the beach, and that was great. The house is in a quiet, residential area and is close to shopping, many good restaurants (including those at the nearby resorts), and Poipu Beach is just minutes away. The house has complete privacy with beautiful gardens surrounding it. It was nice too knowing there was someone nearby in the event of an emergency. A great find for us – I highly recommend Pua Hale!!"

On a sunny Poipu morning, you will wake up to the sound of a small Japanese waterfall in your completely enclosed, walled garden filled with tropical flowers (Anthurium, heleconia. spathphyllum and others).

Your bedroom has sliding shoji doors and a very comfortable, queen bed. It opens into a large living room with queen sized sofa bed, and a dining area. You can see the lovely walled garden from the bedroom and hear the soft waterfall sound (you may turn it off if you do not like the sound of falling water) You will enjoy the large sunken Japanese style bathtub/shower, big enough for two. The kitchen is completely equipped right down to the finest garlic press and food processor. There is a cable TV, free WIFI VCR, DVD, stereo with tape & CD player, and numerous books on Hawaiiana and Kauai.

The white interior walls, white tiled floors and counter tops along with insulated double ceilings keep Pua Hale cool all year round. Beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers and both a gas and charcole barbecue are available for your use. Pua Hale is on a half acre property. The owners live in the back of the property and their home is not visible once you are in Pua Hale's walled garden or house.

The owner, Carol Ann has lived at Poipu Beach for over 53 years. Carol Ann was born in Hawaii (her family came in the 1800s).. She has traveled extensively all over the world. She has three grown children and 10 grandchildren, 3 dogs and 2 cats who live in the house on the back of the property and can not be seen or heard from Pua Hale..

Carol Ann is a painter and photographer and retired from her photography company called PORTRAITS OF HAWAII. She has won many local & national awards for her photography and painting and has been published in several books.

Another guest just commented:

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Pua Hale. It is a little hidden jem in Poipu. The small house is surrounded by a wooden fence, lush greens, and has a lovely fountain in the private garden. It really makes you feel like you are in your own little paradise. The shower was also great - it has this open design that makes you feel like you are showering outdoors. So freeing! The house was clean and had everything we needed. It's close to the beach and some great restaurants and other resorts where you can go grab a nice cocktail. I stay in vacation rentals all the time and would highly recommend this!

Why Carol Ann Davis chose Kauai

My husband, Walter Briant,(who passed away 8 years ago) and I built this home as a very special vacation rental at Poipu Beach. It was built in a Japanese style and is furnished with japanese antique tansus. We built it on our 1/2 acre property at the Poipu Beach resort area but it is on a dead end street so is quiet though very near to all resort amenities.

What makes this house unique

Pua Hale is a unique one of a kind vacation rental in Poipu. the house itself is beautifully designed and It is uniquly furnished with Japanese antique furniture and garden sculpture as well as modern comfortable furniture. Though near the resort area, it is on a very quiet dead end street and surrounded by a high wall and is totally private. It is a short 5 minute walk (if you walk slowly) from Poipu Beach park itself where people enjoy swimming at Poipu Beach, rated as one of the best beaches in the world. The kitchen is totally outfitted with anything you will need to cook a gourmet meal and there is a complete laundry room attached to the back of Pua Hale.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly enjoyed our stay @ Pua Hale our new found hideaway. Thank you t my cousin for her recommendations. The Japanese waterfall is soothing and calming. We a both looking forward to retirement so we can spend more time @ Pua Hale. This makes it hard to leave. The geckos "Homer and Misty" are very friendly. Homer especially loves to pose for the camera. We felt just like little kids, we were just fascinated. Thank you also for supplying us papayas from your garden. They were sweet.

Carol Ann, we thank you for creating Pua Hale. Best of luck to you.

Pua Hale a personal oasis

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Pua Hale for 4 night, and they were delightful. The house provides a home away from home feel, a wonderful place to return to after a day at the beach or a hike. We spent the morning reading on the back porch with the sound of the Japanese garden in the background, walked to th beach for snorkeling, to Kiekos for dinner, and took day trips to the north shore & west side. After we left Pua Hale we stayed at a resort, and it just wasn't as good as Pua Hale. Carol Ann is wonderful, responsive, and honors the privacy of her guests. This is a gem of a place to stay!

Excellent Choice for us!

  • 5 of 5

my wife and I loved this place and having Carol Ann as the resident island expert was really great too. She is awesome as a host and the villa has everything you need. 5 min walk to Poipu Beach was great and the property is very private and quiet. It is a home away from home and our 9 day trip was really nice. We were looking for the non-resort feel and this is just it! All the comforts of home and close to all the action of Poipu. The back lanai is great for breakfast and dinners too. We will go back for sure!

Perfect vacation setting so close to Poipu Beach!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Pua Hale, which is centrally located on the beautiful island of Kauai and so close to anywhere you want to go. We enjoyed meeting Carol Ann who greeted us with fresh papayas, pomegranates, and limes from her garden and who truly exemplifies the Aloha spirit. This was our first vacation together on Kauai, and we hope to be able to return every October and stay at Pua Hale. Thank you so much, Carol Ann, for the wonderful hospitality: We love beautiful Pua Hale! Mahalo Nui Loa!

Favorite place on Poipu

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our fifth stay at Pua Hale. We love the location so close to Poipu which is our favorite beach on Kauai. Carol Ann is a wonderful, caring hostess and we always feel comfortable and right at home. We love the little geckos and we understand their importance to the islands. I would recommend Pua Hale to anyone visiting the south shore of Kauai.
