Overview

About the property

We are a small organic winery situated on 40 acres of bushland only 20 minutes from Kangaroo Valley , 25 minutes to Berry and 15 minutes from North Nowra. There are 2 acres under vine and 5 dams providing swimming and fishing during the warmer months. There is a natural gully on one side and the vineyard on the other makes a lovely tranquil spot to relax and read a good book. You can wander around the property and the vineyard, feed the chickens, collect the eggs and throw in a yabbie pot in the warmer months and see what you catch. This is a tranquil setting with the options to sleep in, read a good book, take a bush walk or head off to the wonderful places to see around the Shoalhaven area.

There is a large grassy BBQ area close by your room so you can enjoy your evening meal with a glass of wine or port without leaving the property. We are a family friendly property with many interesting things for your children to see and do. If the grapes are on, watching the children's faces as they pick their own bunch from the vines, is priceless. No Grapes, then we have chickens, cows, sheep and ducks to enjoy. This is your chance to escape the suburbs, technology and enjoy a rural setting not too far from the city. We can also (on request) provide an organic breakfast basket, BBQ packs & devonshire tea.

We are only a 30 minute drive to the beaches of Gerringong and Shoalhaven Heads or you can visit the fantastic Fleet Air Arm Museum at HMAS Albatross, go to Hanging Rock lookout or visit Shoalhaven Zoo. We are also very close to Arthur Boyd's Bundanon Estate where you can tour the art studio or time your visit to coincide with one of the fantastic events held there regularly through the year.

Self contained cabins ( Studio)

Two self contained cabins are close to the vineyard and cellar door on our beautiful rural property. A continental breakfast is included for each day of your stay and includes fresh eggs from our resident chooks. You can sleep in, enjoy making your own breakfast in your cottage or use the BBQ at your leisure.

You can pick herbs from the old bathtub garden and whip up your own omelette. The rooms have everything you need to prepare your own meals along with tea, coffee, juice and your basic pantry items. Enjoy your own wood fire heater making your cabin warm and cosy or you can use the fire pit near the cellar door and even toast marshmallows.

To help choose the best accommodation for your stay please read the description below and be sure to make a request if needed.

Kookaburra Cottage #1

Studio style accommodation with a queen size bed and double sofa bed.

Kookaburra Cottage #2

Studio style accommodation with a queen size bed and two single bunk beds.

Cellar door

The cellar door is open by appointment and in the summer those staying with us can enjoy the cool inground cellar to taste our organic wines and port. In Winter, the pot belly stove is perfect to warm up around. A selection of my favourite local products are available along a small range of relishes and chutneys made here with our homegrown summer produce.

Feels like coming home

  • 5 of 5

Anne and Greg are wonderful hosts. This little farm and winery feels instantly like a home away from home. Our dogs loved playing on the farm with all kinds of animals (dogs, sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, wombats and wallabies!) and it's only a short drive to the beach, beautiful Berry and a range of gorgeous vineyards. We will definitely be back to unplug, unwind and enjoy what Australia's natural environment has to offer. If you've got little ones on two legs or four the farm is full of interesting sights, sounds and smells and there's plenty to do if you want to explore. We will definitely be returning!

Beautiful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent the weekend at this retreat and it is absolutely marvellous for a family with young children. Our boys feed the ducks, chickens and collected the freshly laid eggs, which were enjoyed for breakfast the next morning. The fire place in the cabin kept us warm and cosy. No internet or mobile service meant it was great quality family time. We will definitely be returning to Lyrebird Ridge Winery !!!

Lovely property, welcoming host

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely part of the world. Our family of 3 plus our dog stayed in the smaller of the two rooms, which are situated in a separate cottage, not far from the main house. The room was comfortable, well appointed and clean, with some basic provisions such as bread, milk, eggs, tea and coffee provided. The bathroom is a little dated, but everything works perfectly well and the water was nice and hot. Anne was a welcoming host, and our son really appreciated having the opportunity to feed the chickens and have all his questions answered (!).

It was an easy drive to Berry and onto the coast, while so lovely to return to, to cosy up to the fire and huddle in bed to watch a DVD.

The only frustration was the lack of phone and internet reception, although it was probably a blessing in disguise.

Owner's Response: Hello Aphra Thanks so much for your thoughtful review of our accommodation. I was pleased to have you say everything was clean, well appointed and comfortable. The lack of connection with technology is something we try to make everyone aware of before they book but like you say it's actually " a blessing " that most of our guests are seeking and needing. We hope to see you come back and stay again soon. regards Anne

Absolutely wonderful weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Lyrebird Ridge. I booked us in for a surprise long weekend retreat for my husband's birthday because he loves getting away to peaceful settings to relax and be around nature, and this turned out to be the perfect place.

Anne is an excellent host - she instantly made us feel welcome and at home, and took the time to chat to us about our plans for the weekend and give some valuable advice and suggestions for things to do.

Our room was lovely, with a fireplace to help us keep warm and cosy. Waking up leisurely to the sound of the two cows mooing and roosters crowing was absolutely delightful and reminded us that we had successfully escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. We cooked our breakfast outside on the BBQ overlooking the vineyard and loved being greeted by the farm's resident dogs, Molly and Rosie, who are adorable!

The location provides a great balance between tranquility and convenience - it's a beautiful 25 minutes drive to Kangaroo Valley, and about 20 minutes into Nowra. We were there during the Shoalhaven Winter Wine festival, and it was really easy to drive out for the day to wineries in the area.

We can't wait to go back!!

Owner's Response: Hello Nicole You chose one of the busiest weekends to be in the Shoalhaven and I am so glad you and your husband enjoyed your stay. I always cross my fingers when people book as a surprise for their partners as we are "off the grid "and self- sufficient , rustic and simple, no phone reception, TV or internet to the accommodation so you can really get away from things if you choose. We would love you both to come and stay again soon. warm regards Anne
