Yira Katta - Chittering

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Situated approximately 65 km (~50 mins drive) north east of Perth CBD, Yira Katta is a 60-acre property, formerly part of the historic farm “Melrose”, and situated high above Lower Chittering. The setting is magnificent, with superb 360 degree views of the scenic, undulating countryside. The homestead is modern and comfortable, with a huge lounge, games and dining area, fully equipped kitchen, two double bedrooms and study (doubling as an extra sleeping area with futon sofa bunk bed and trundle bed). The property sleeps up to 4 adults and 4 children (8 max).

Minimum stay at Yira Katta is 2 nights.

Evaporative air conditioning and shady verandahs keep the homestead cool in summer and the heated outdoor spa, located in the gazebo in the beautiful gardens, can be used year-round. A wood burning stove provides ample heating in the cooler months. The property includes TV/DVD/stereo, a pool/snooker table with all accessories, Playstation with 2 controllers and games, selection of books, magazines, board games and jigsaw puzzles.

The property is close to 5 vineyards - Stringybark has a lovely restaurant while the others provide wine and olive tastings from the cellar doors. Wildflowers are magnificent in spring and there are plenty of walk trails in the valley to allow exploration of the Brockman River and surrounding countryside.

Yira Katta comprises the homestead and outbuildings, open paddocks used for sheep grazing and a substantial forested area towards the main entrance. The Brockman River runs along the property boundary and the perennial Marbling Brook runs through the bottom paddock.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and recently spent two nights at Yira Katta. We live in Perth and had never been to the Chittering Valley, it is so beautiful with it's winding roads, rolling hills, orchards and vineyards.

The house itself is perched high on a hill and the views are stunning, you have views from pretty much every angle. The house is fully equipped, there were plenty of games and books, the kitchen had everything we could have wanted and the house itself has a homely feel, nicely furnished and plenty of space.

We took advantage of the wood burning fire and the outside hot tub and the outside speakers. The outside area is lovely, it's a shame it was too chilly to take advantage of the lovely outside setting in the evenings.

We usually head to the more well known areas surrounding Perth when wanting a short break but I would recommend Chittering and this beautiful home as we only had to travel an hour, it's an area worth exploring and the house was the perfect base for our mini break.

Lovely, relaxing stay.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great winter break at Yira Katta. The views are absolutely magnificent. It was very quiet and a great place to unwind. The log fire kept the living areas wonderfully warm. We would often go for a walk on the farm property which was very nice. The Chittering Valley is a lovely place to explore, and so close to Perth!

Awesome Weekender

  • 5 of 5

We booked this home for a family weekend getaway, a trip to the country with no internet for the kids to experience things as we did as kids growing up.

The home was spacious, clean and had everything we needed for the stay.

The fire added a bit of cosy comfort for the cooler weather we had. The property was amazing and the kids had a great time exploring along the creek and river that runs by the property.

Both the kids and us Adults had an awesome time and reconnected as well as enjoying the good old country fresh air.

Would highly recommend this property to others.

Thank-you to the owners for sharing this beautiful place, the views and tranquility are restorative. Lovely siiting on the verandahs and beautiful spacious house. Great for families, we did not have to unpack any toys or movies and seemed to be stuff to enjoy for all ages. We enjoyed a lovely morning kite flying. One of the best set-up guest accomodation, with lot's of thought into what items you might need. We stayed 2 weeks and John emptied rubbish and offered to bring firewood and fresh linen, very considerate.
