Established in 1895 as Bass Lake Village, the community grew up around the newly created Bass Lake Reservoir that supplied the first hydroelectric generating project in Central California entrance.
Yosemite is one of the most significant and most miniature fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada, and the park supports a diversity of plants and animals.
