Beautifully renovated apartment, fully equipped. Completely new: washer, dryer, fridge, stove, micro-wave, kitchenware, bed, linens, fold-out couch, flat-screen television, everything. Bathroom includes clawed-foot tub. The 30 square meter terrace with it's barbeque is a good place to spend time so you can have a feel of the neighborhood.
This apartment is located near the Atwater market, one minute away from the Lachine canal, which is the highway of choice for whoever doesn't travel by car. Within 2 kilometers of the apartment, all on the canal, you can rent a bike, a pedal boat, a kayak, an electric boat, you can ride in a dragon boat, and in the winter, you can even walk, ice skate and snowshoe on the canal.
You get the best of both worlds by being in this small urban borough mere minutes away from action packed Downtown. A seven minute walk takes you to the Place St-Henri metro, so you can be downtown within 10 minutes, to get to the busiest part of our city, where shops, restaurants and clubs are waiting for you to discover them.
Trying to take care of my surroundings, I've been upgrading this property since it's acquisition, implementing solar panels to heat the hot water, radiant flooring system, rain water recuperation, and building and driving my electric car.
Nicolas purchased this apartment in 2002
This is a quiet neighborhood where it's nice to spend time on the terrace. Being partly among the trees, you forget how close to downtown you really are. If you like the outdoors, we've got the biggest playground just a minute away: The lachine Canal and it's bike path.
"it felt like home away from home. the landlord is very friendly and helpful. the furniture and the kitchen were great. located somewhat away from downtown, metro station within 10 min walking distance. we really enjoyed our stay."

It was our first time in Montreal and Aux Magarites provided a cozy place from which to explore it, with a short morning walk to Metro stop Place St Henri, retuning in the evenings, stopping by the IGA supermarket on the way. Also many options for food and drink on Rue Notre Dame (our favorite meal was at Lavigne).
It proved to be a perfect place for us, we felt at home and comfortable, and would definitely return, given the chance. Merci beaucoup Nicolas!
The apartment had lots of room and the necessary amenities for my wife and I and our adult daughter. The little deck was a treasure, great for having breakfast, escaping the sun on a hot afternoon, and sipping wine with a little chocolate on a sultry evening. The neighbourhood was interesting with several restaurants within walking distance, and an IGA nearby to get groceries. It was a similar distance to the Metro station making it easy to get to other parts of Montreal. Only 2 blocks from the Lachine Canal to access walking and biking trails (just a couple blocks more to get to a BIXI bike rental station).
We returned to this unit after such a positive experience last year. Nicolas continues to deliver a nice unit and is spectacular to work with as an owner. He has a fully equiped unit, maps/brochures to help with tourism questions, etc. Unit is very comfortabe and the terrace is lovely in the summer. Only caveat is that this year I had a back injury so the stairs and high-sided bathtub was troublesome as a result. Nice location with a pleasant walk to the Metro or local awesome bakery. Many restaurants in walking distance as well. Great value and if we ever return to Montreal we will once again stay here.
The apartment is quite large for two people and has a balcony that is accessible via the kitchen door.
We liked that we could walk every evening along the La Chine Canal - don't pass up the opportunity to get a brew and
something to eat at Terrasse St Ambrose.
The Metro is a short walk away, even with a rolling suitcase it was easy. We would advise getting a Metro pass - 3 days or a week - depending on your
length of stay. For example, even though Atwater Market is fairly close we actually preferred going to the Jean Talon Market.
With all there is to see in Montreal, it took us awhile to actually look around the neighborhood of the apartment. It is worth it to check out the shops/restaurants along Rue Notre-Dame.
Nicolas was very helpful and helped with any problems (very few) - and because of the high temperatures the week we were there, the air conditioner
came in handy.
Atwater market, friendly restautants, lachine canal, a folk festival....what else can one ask for? This area of Montreal is laid back and family oriented.
Having stayed at apts in Old Port, Plateau and Little Italy over the past 6 years, we decided to explore .St Henri. Upon arriving I was a bit put off by the graffiti and overall mood of the area but walking a few blocks in any direction yielded pleasant surprises.
The apt was clean and servicable. Nicolas is an accomodating host. As other reviewers have remarked the bed is very comfortable. The claw foot tub while charming might be a challenge for some. The kitchen is well equipped and with atwater nearby cooking at home was a delight.
Overall a nice stay and I recommend this apt. Thank you, Nicolas.
Located just meters away from the Lachine Canal bike path, you can go for kilometers be it by foot, rollerblade, bike, canoe, kayak, electric boat, even ice skates and cross-country skis in the winter, you choose.
