This apartment is located near the Atwater market, one minute away from the Lachine canal, which is the highway of choice for whoever doesn't travel by car. Within 2 kilometers of the apartment, all on the canal, you can rent a bike, a pedal boat, a kayak, an electric boat, you can ride in a dragon boat, and in the winter, you can even walk, ice skate and snowshoe on the canal.

About Nicolas

Trying to take care of my surroundings, I've been upgrading this property since it's acquisition, implementing solar panels to heat the hot water, radiant flooring system, rain water recuperation, and building and driving my electric car.

Nicolas purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Nicolas chose Montreal

Location, location....

What makes this apartment unique

This is a quiet neighborhood where it's nice to spend time on the terrace. Being partly among the trees, you forget how close to downtown you really are. If you like the outdoors, we've got the biggest playground just a minute away: The lachine Canal and it's bike path.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"it felt like home away from home. the landlord is very friendly and helpful. the furniture and the kitchen were great. located somewhat away from downtown, metro station within 10 min walking distance. we really enjoyed our stay."

2nd stay here...

  • 5 of 5

We returned to this unit after such a positive experience last year. Nicolas continues to deliver a nice unit and is spectacular to work with as an owner. He has a fully equiped unit, maps/brochures to help with tourism questions, etc. Unit is very comfortabe and the terrace is lovely in the summer. Only caveat is that this year I had a back injury so the stairs and high-sided bathtub was troublesome as a result. Nice location with a pleasant walk to the Metro or local awesome bakery. Many restaurants in walking distance as well. Great value and if we ever return to Montreal we will once again stay here.

Nice Place to Call Home for a Week

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is quite large for two people and has a balcony that is accessible via the kitchen door.

We liked that we could walk every evening along the La Chine Canal - don't pass up the opportunity to get a brew and

something to eat at Terrasse St Ambrose.

The Metro is a short walk away, even with a rolling suitcase it was easy. We would advise getting a Metro pass - 3 days or a week - depending on your

length of stay. For example, even though Atwater Market is fairly close we actually preferred going to the Jean Talon Market.

With all there is to see in Montreal, it took us awhile to actually look around the neighborhood of the apartment. It is worth it to check out the shops/restaurants along Rue Notre-Dame.

Nicolas was very helpful and helped with any problems (very few) - and because of the high temperatures the week we were there, the air conditioner

came in handy.

Another gem in Montreal

  • 3 of 5

Atwater market, friendly restautants, lachine canal, a folk festival....what else can one ask for? This area of Montreal is laid back and family oriented.

Having stayed at apts in Old Port, Plateau and Little Italy over the past 6 years, we decided to explore .St Henri. Upon arriving I was a bit put off by the graffiti and overall mood of the area but walking a few blocks in any direction yielded pleasant surprises.

The apt was clean and servicable. Nicolas is an accomodating host. As other reviewers have remarked the bed is very comfortable. The claw foot tub while charming might be a challenge for some. The kitchen is well equipped and with atwater nearby cooking at home was a delight.

Overall a nice stay and I recommend this apt. Thank you, Nicolas.

Nicely Renovated Apartment in Older Building

  • 4 of 5

Nicolas greeted us warmly and he even carried a couple of suitcases up the stairs for us. He is a very talented handyman, and he's done a nice job renovating this apartment. The double bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of electrical outlets -- something you often don't find in older buildings. The metro is an easy walk from the unit, and the Atwater Market is fairly close by as well.

You need to be a bit spry to navigate the steep stairway, and the same goes for using the bathtub/shower, which is an antique unit with high sides. The bottom of the tub can get slippery, so I would suggest that Nicolas provide a rubber mat, or affix some "friction strips" to the bottom of the tub.

Although the neighborhood is not upscale (there do appear to be some renovations going on in the area), we had no problem leaving our car parked on the street for a couple of days, and we felt perfectly safe walking around the area at night.

In short, we enjoyed our stay, and we would recommend this VRBO to others.

So glad we chose this place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful experience at this rental! The pictures did a terrific job of capturing the apartment and it was exactly as described. The owner, Nicolas, was extraordinarily kind and thoughtful even going so far as to help my husband carry in luggage. The place was spotless. The bed was a little short (we are both 6'2'') but comfortable enough. My 6'2'' daughter did just fine on the futon. The futon/living room had a curtain that could be shut so she had some privacy, and she really appreciated that. We could still use the kitchen, the terrace, or leave without disturbing the sleepy teenager who would rather stab herself than get up before 11 a.m. Be sure to go to Atwater market- it was positively wonderful for buying baked goods, vegetables, fruits, and meats and a short walk from the unit. The bread store opens extremely early and you can have a lovely breakfast there of coffee and baked goods. The Metro was awesome- we parked the car for the whole duration and purchased the 3 day unlimited pass for $18 each, and went everywhere. Parking in front of the unit was not a problem so long as you are good at parallel parking. Restaurant prices overall are very reasonable. Try Robin Du Bois, a charity based restaurant that is very reasonably priced and proceeds going toward helping the homeless. Had a great meal there and it was a family favorite. Neighborhood was extremely safe, although there is graffiti every where. No worries though, as single females walked around constantly without issue. French is the language you will hear everywhere, but everyone also speaks English. The people of Montreal were extremely kind and helpful particularly since we speak no French. People would stop to offer help when it was obvious we were trying to locate something, and even walked us through the underground area a half mile or so to ensure we made it to Eton Square. Incredibly kind souls indeed. It was very hot- 90F or 32C and very humid, and far warmer than the average 75F typical of August. The apartment did have a portable A/C, but it was still very warm... tolerable overall though. We will absolutely be returning and my daughter is already begging me to book the place again since there was so much we didn't have time to see. If this is your first VRBO experience, try this owner- he will be amazing for you! We arrived early and he let us in and stored our luggage so we could start our day while he finished up. Thank you for such a fantastic experience!!
