Photos and Description of this Montreal holiday apartment

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Beautifully renovated apartment, fully equipped. Completely new: washer, dryer, fridge, stove, micro-wave, kitchenware, bed, linens, fold-out couch, flat-screen television, everything. Bathroom includes clawed-foot tub. The 30 square meter terrace with it's barbeque is a good place to spend time so you can have a feel of the neighborhood.

This apartment is located near the Atwater market, one minute away from the Lachine canal, which is the highway of choice for whoever doesn't travel by car. Within 2 kilometers of the apartment, all on the canal, you can rent a bike, a pedal boat, a kayak, an electric boat, you can ride in a dragon boat, and in the winter, you can even walk, ice skate and snowshoe on the canal.

You get the best of both worlds by being in this small urban borough mere minutes away from action packed Downtown. A seven minute walk takes you to the Place St-Henri metro, so you can be downtown within 10 minutes, to get to the busiest part of our city, where shops, restaurants and clubs are waiting for you to discover them.

About Nicolas

Trying to take care of my surroundings, I've been upgrading this property since it's acquisition, implementing solar panels to heat the hot water, radiant flooring system, rain water recuperation, and building and driving my electric car.

Nicolas purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Nicolas chose Montreal

Location, location....

What makes this apartment unique

This is a quiet neighborhood where it's nice to spend time on the terrace. Being partly among the trees, you forget how close to downtown you really are. If you like the outdoors, we've got the biggest playground just a minute away: The lachine Canal and it's bike path.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"it felt like home away from home. the landlord is very friendly and helpful. the furniture and the kitchen were great. located somewhat away from downtown, metro station within 10 min walking distance. we really enjoyed our stay."

The place we stayed was clean, comfortable, and convenient. The owner was wonderful, and very responsive to questions. Highly recommended.

Nicely Renovated Apartment in Older Building

  • 4 of 5

Nicolas greeted us warmly and he even carried a couple of suitcases up the stairs for us. He is a very talented handyman, and he's done a nice job renovating this apartment. The double bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of electrical outlets -- something you often don't find in older buildings. The metro is an easy walk from the unit, and the Atwater Market is fairly close by as well.

You need to be a bit spry to navigate the steep stairway, and the same goes for using the bathtub/shower, which is an antique unit with high sides. The bottom of the tub can get slippery, so I would suggest that Nicolas provide a rubber mat, or affix some "friction strips" to the bottom of the tub.

Although the neighborhood is not upscale (there do appear to be some renovations going on in the area), we had no problem leaving our car parked on the street for a couple of days, and we felt perfectly safe walking around the area at night.

In short, we enjoyed our stay, and we would recommend this VRBO to others.

So glad we chose this place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful experience at this rental! The pictures did a terrific job of capturing the apartment and it was exactly as described. The owner, Nicolas, was extraordinarily kind and thoughtful even going so far as to help my husband carry in luggage. The place was spotless. The bed was a little short (we are both 6'2'') but comfortable enough. My 6'2'' daughter did just fine on the futon. The futon/living room had a curtain that could be shut so she had some privacy, and she really appreciated that. We could still use the kitchen, the terrace, or leave without disturbing the sleepy teenager who would rather stab herself than get up before 11 a.m. Be sure to go to Atwater market- it was positively wonderful for buying baked goods, vegetables, fruits, and meats and a short walk from the unit. The bread store opens extremely early and you can have a lovely breakfast there of coffee and baked goods. The Metro was awesome- we parked the car for the whole duration and purchased the 3 day unlimited pass for $18 each, and went everywhere. Parking in front of the unit was not a problem so long as you are good at parallel parking. Restaurant prices overall are very reasonable. Try Robin Du Bois, a charity based restaurant that is very reasonably priced and proceeds going toward helping the homeless. Had a great meal there and it was a family favorite. Neighborhood was extremely safe, although there is graffiti every where. No worries though, as single females walked around constantly without issue. French is the language you will hear everywhere, but everyone also speaks English. The people of Montreal were extremely kind and helpful particularly since we speak no French. People would stop to offer help when it was obvious we were trying to locate something, and even walked us through the underground area a half mile or so to ensure we made it to Eton Square. Incredibly kind souls indeed. It was very hot- 90F or 32C and very humid, and far warmer than the average 75F typical of August. The apartment did have a portable A/C, but it was still very warm... tolerable overall though. We will absolutely be returning and my daughter is already begging me to book the place again since there was so much we didn't have time to see. If this is your first VRBO experience, try this owner- he will be amazing for you! We arrived early and he let us in and stored our luggage so we could start our day while he finished up. Thank you for such a fantastic experience!!

Charming upstairs apartment in old blue collar section of town. Quite a mix of housing in the area from renovated row houses to new apartment buildings to run down properties. One block to the canal (walking and bikes paths, boat rentals), 3 blocks to Rue Notre Dame with great eateries, 3 blocks to Aubut (discount supermarket), 5 blocks to metro, 8 blocks to Atwater Market (upscale farmers market, butchers, bakers cheese shops...); lots to do. The apartment has a wonderful deck off the kitchen and a balcony off the living room. All was well maintained and clean. I would return without hesitation!

Very Clean, Safe, and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This is a basic, clean, comfortable apartment convenient to the metro. We stayed here 4 nights and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen two nights. We were a little wary of the neighborhood at first but actually found it to be quite safe to the point that one of our party (a woman) felt comfortable walking home from the metro at night alone! Yes, you do see women walking around at night alone in this neighborhood quite a lot! Owner is very nice, lives nearby and was very responsive to all our needs. Loved the nice deck out back. Negatives: Sofa in living room was not terribly comfortable. Also smoke alarm in kitchen will go off if you have any little bit of kitchen cooking smoke at all. Use kitchen exhaust fan at all times! All in all it was a great place to stay and we would definitely stay there again.

New York City

Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved this city and place! We are a couple traveling from NYC and the drive up was breath-taking and easy--would highly encourage driving if you can! This spot was in an ideal location. I was able to park without problem on the streets for free! We were only a ten minute walk from the subway and 5 minute walk from the bus stop that shoots down Notre Dame. In the opposite direction, 1 block over, was the canal and a great running/biking path that we used every morning. I especially enjoyed that Atwater Market was also a 10-15 minute walk away--it had everything from fresh bread to flowers to AMAZING meat that you can bring back to the apartment and grill on the outdoor patio. Get there early in the morning because it gets crowded and has bread fresh out of the oven. The line can get long but it moves!

Besides location, we adored the apartment. Nicolas, the owner, was very helpful and friendly! Apartment is exactly as pictured. Loved the the outdoor space and the full kitchen. I saw a previous review mentioned the area looked a little shady but we didn't get that feeling--but that also may be because we live in a city :) The neighbors are very friendly and I didn't feel unsafe parking my little Honda next to the BMWs and other fancy cars. He had a binder of what's around and pamphlets all about Montreal. My favorite part was this notebook he kept on the table that was completely filled with previous guests' entries thanking Nicolas and giving advice to future guests.

Enjoyed our first trip to Montreal so much we are coming back in June! Thanks Nicolas!
