About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

This Palm Springs Mid-century Palmer/Kriesel designed butterfly roof home built by George Alexander is located in one of Palm Springs first Mid-Century Modern neighborhoods called Racquet Club Estates (one mile from downtown)..

The open floor plan features concrete floors, high vaulted beam ceilings with clerestory mountain view windows and glass sliders overlooking the new kidney shaped saltwater pool and jacuzzi/spa. The Pool has a 6 foot tanning ledge with a built in umbrella sleeve for shade while lounging. The entire outdoor living area was designed and realized by a landscape artist with as much care as the interior; including the outdoor shower, cabana bar, fire-pit, putting green and fruit trees.

It is important to note that we are a full 1,000 square feet larger than the traditional Alexander home because we enclosed the breezeway adding onto our kitchen/dining room and extending our master bedroom/bathroom/office.

As you enter the house into the foyer, you will be impressed by the floor to ceiling painting that leads you into the ''great room''. The concrete floors are softened in the living room by a large cream shag rug with furnishings designed by Futurama and embellished by our coveted 50's collection of Blue Blenko glassware. All bedrooms have desert hued low pile carpeting. The living room seating faces the original block fireplace which is commanded by a stunning commissioned piece of art we call ''LOU'', who has become our mascot. His image repeats in various locations throughout the property...see if you can spot him.

To the right of the great room, is our sparkling showpiece 1960's lucite formal dining room table for six. The entertainment ''vibe'' continues with our open kitchen boasting granite counter tops with mosaic glass tile back-splash.

A large mobile island faces the kitchen's overhead HDTV flat screen where you can sit on comfortable leather bar stools to watch a great sport event or just keep the chef in the family company. The kitchen is complete with stainless steel appliances, a full line of Cuisinart-blender-juicer-coffee maker and all the cooking utensils needed for any gourmet. We provide a Nespresso Machine too but don't forget to bring the pods! You will also find complete place settings for 8 in both plastic for outdoor dining and ceramic and glass for indoor dining all complemented by vintage starburst patterned flatware.

The first bedroom is furnished with a new platform queen bed mattress purchased specifically for fibromialgia sufferers and incredibly comfortable for all. This room includes an HDTV, 70's Italian travertine marble tables, 60's bedside lamps and a fur throw and Jonathan Adler bench.

The smallest bedroom hosts Case Study sofas that become twin beds along with a fabulous Panton 60s Bubble Mirror, HDTV, a kitschy Arne Jacobsen chair and the biggest lamp you've ever seen! Check out the closet where we store board games.

The Master bedroom features a floor to ceiling white leather headboard which flanks a king-size platform bed facing the HDTV/DVD with surround sound. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower for two and a walk in closet. The master also features a chaise lounge sitting/office area with a fax/printer. The bedroom sliders lead you outdoors to the fruit trees, raised ledge gas fire pit with turquoise glass and the putting green.

Some of the design elements that make the house special are the commissioned art in every room, the professionally landscape, furnished and illuminated grounds, the privacy of the fenced backyard with outdoor shower and cabana, the spectacular view and all this with your own personal concierge.

About Elizabeth Reilly Baruch

I started my love affair with Palm Springs back in the 80's when I was a student at UCLA and spent long weekend getaways here. The desert climate and my interest in Mid Century architecture cemented my yearning to own a home in this little jewel-box of a city. I looked at potential homes to purchase for a good 10 years before I found 'Rendevous Lou'!

Elizabeth Reilly Baruch purchased this house in 2006

Why Elizabeth Reilly Baruch chose California Desert

LOVE the restored mid century modern designed homes throughout this of the best in town!

What makes this house unique

This is one of the spectacular Mid Century Alexander homes that you can view the mountains while INSIDE the house through the clerestory windows!!!!.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to follow up and thank both Liz and Bob for a wonderful week at Rendevous Lou! The house is fantastic. I immediately felt at home here. I really enjoyed the choices made with layout, furnishings, decor, lighting etc. We absolutely loved soaking in the hot tub and gazing up at the spectacular mountain view. The other pleasant surprise was Bob, the concierge, who really saved the day on a few occasions during our visit. He was professional and accommodating and provides a valuable service. We definitely intend to visit R Lou again!

Great place--wonderful indoor/outdoor lifestyle

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a month and really enjoyed it. This home was impeccably decorated--a classic midcentury home. The views of the mountain from the clerestory windows was stunning every day. The outdoor space extends the home, with an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Small pool and spa, putting green, firepit, cabana bar, and a lemon and tangerine tree--all very private. Yoga by the pool as the sun comes up is perfect. The spacious kitchen is well stocked and great for entertaining. Beds (1 queen, 1 king) were comfortable and the rooms well appointed. Bathrooms are modern with walk-in shower in master. Wifi was average (a little slow). No dropped calls. A few quirks to the house, but lots of instructions to guide you through it. Downsides: Remotes to lights, pool, and tvs could work better. Must have a car. It's a 10-minute or so (easy) drive to the main strip of restaurants and shops so was a bit isolating for those of us used to city life and walkability. Outdoor lights never worked consistently-- but Bob, the caretaker, was very responsive. Great guy. And the wind could get crazy some days.

R Lou House

  • 3 of 5

We went for a girls weekend- 6 girls. The outdoors pool and spa were great. Our issue was that this says it sleeps 6 and there are twin beds. That seems inaccurate to me, and misleading. The "twin beds" are small couches that are not to be moved. Otherwise you are on an Aerobed. We also felt the house needed a deep clean. Floors were dirty, and we noticed dust and grime in places. Otherwise we had a lovely time. But would not recommend a stay for 6 adults with the sleeping options.

Owner's Response: So sorry that you felt the beds weren't accurately represented but there are many posted pictures of the beds on my listing, a description of the beds as being "case study sofa beds" and an additional video I sent you of the all the bedrooms and their beds. As far as the cleaning goes, I have many compliments on how clean the house is kept but I appreciate your feedback for me to share with my housekeeper. I am glad you enjoyed the pool and spa. Best, Liz

Very nice rental!

  • 4 of 5

My husband, 2 daughters, 1 daughter's friend and myself stayed in this rental, March 24-28. Bob made check in easy. He was very thorough in his presentation of the property and its amenities. The property was clean and fairly well stocked. There wasn't any soap for the dishwasher, and no soap in the showers. Not a big deal, we bought soap for the showers, and my husband washed the dishes by hand. The only other small complaint was with 4 females, we ran out of wash cloths quickly. All in all it is a very nice property and in a good location. I would recommend this rental to friends and family!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for agreeing to recommend my property to your friends and family. I am sorry to hear that there were not enough wash cloths for your girls. Please know that my concierge, Robert, is there for any request that you might have; including more wash cloths or dishwasher soap. Thanks again and I hope to see you back soon at Rendevous Lou.

Great home! Beautiful decor, quiet, and private.

  • 5 of 5

Hello Liz, thank you for sharing your home with us. It was absolutely perfect! LOVED the lucite table and the large living room mirror. Every area has been perfectly planned out. The master bedroom sheets were amazing...they made sleeping and taking naps very pleasant. Your pool towels are super cute! And the pool just perfect! The surround sound throughout the entire home was very nice as it made lounging by the pool and bbq'ing more fun. We really enjoyed the little golfing area and had some friendly competitions. We had an amazing weekend of much needed relaxation. It's been the first vacation this year that my boyfriend and I have been able to take because he's always working. We hope to visit Rendezvous Lou again. Thank you!

Memorial Day Weekend

  • 5 of 5

For our annual Palm Springs Memorial Day Weekend we stayed at Rendezvous Lou, and were completely blown away. Liz's attention to detail was seen both indoors and out - from the well appointed kitchen to the backyard complete with pool, spa, fire pit, and putting green - ! Details of ambient lighting and speakers in every room, along with super comfy beds and furniture make this house the perfect place to unwind in Palm Springs. From a fellow mid-century lover, this house is amazing!
