About this property

Island Retreat - Kooringal

The Island Retreat is the perfect holiday beach house to escape the busy city life and relax. Please be aware you will require a four wheel drive to access the island.

Fully renovated, this four bedroom, two bathroom beach house oozes coastal charm. There are 4 bedrooms, master bedroom with king bed, 2 guest bedrooms with queen beds and a separate kids bunkhouse with 3 sets of bunk beds.

The pavillion style house allows separation for those wanting to enjoy a peaceful afternoon snooze in the large parent retreat, children watching a DVD in the TV room, or those enjoying a drink on the deck.

The house is fully equipt with modern Kitchen and BBQ facilities and the outdoor fireplace will comfort you on a winters night. Please remember to bring your favorite coffee pods to use in the NESPRESSO machine.

Electricity in the house is environmentally friendly solar. Battery supply is great although guests should be mindful of power usage during their stay. A friendly property manager is more than happy to help if any problems arise.

PLEASE BE AWARE THE ISLAND IS EXPERIENCING EXTREMELY DRY WEATHER AND WATER TANKS ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING ON BORE WATER. PLEASE BRING PLENTY OF DRINKING WATER.

Local Activities

Moreton Island "The Gem of South East Queensland" is one of the best experiences that Australia has to offer. One of Australia's largest sand islands, making Moreton Island perfect for that much needed getaway. Moreton is almost completely sand with no roads, so a 4wd is needed past the landing points. Just across the bay from civilisation, Moreton is quickly being discovered as an unspoilt paradise for people wanting to relax and enjoy nature.

The house is only a minute walk to the bayside of the island, with calm water for children to play. The surfside is a 5 minute beach drive. A must to experience the most pristine beaches in SouthEast Queensland.

A short drive north, for the more energetic, climb the sand dunes, try sand tobogganing or snorkelling at the Tangalooma Wrecks.

Awesome cottage
It's a great getaway. We loved the big kitchen and the outdoor area which suited our big group perfectly. This was the first time for us staying at Kooringal right next-door to the Gutter bar. Very convenient and fun. On that side of Moreton Island though you are bound by the tides, and you will have to plan your daytrips carefully. We did have an issue with the bore water being very smelly and brown. The smell was definitely not for the faint hearted. There was no rainwater left. We stayed during peak season though, so this could all have been used by previous large groups during the Christmas period and there hasn't been a lot of rainfall during this holiday either. We might've just been unlucky. Overall great place

Great place for a big family.
Need to fix the roof in the king bed room, luckily we had a great weather. Extra toilet for the bunk beds room would be great. Love the out door place.
