Overview

About the property

The Guest House, which resembles a Scottish cottage, is nestled in spacious grounds beneath Mt. Moriac, in the gently sloping Barrabool Hills. It is conveniently located only 16 kilometres from Geelong, one of Victoria's most popular holiday destinations, and only one hour from Melbourne CBD.

Barrabool Hills Retreat offers 3 superior double rooms and can accommodate couples, families or single guests. Guests have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the restful and tranquil atmosphere of a fine country house and garden, surrounded by interesting works of art.

Charming hospitality

Barrabool Hills Retreat also offers a buffet breakfast of seasonal and organic produce, including fresh local free range eggs. Breakfast is served buffet-style in the elegant breakfast room or on the adjoining deck.

There are plenty of comfortable spots to relax and un-wind after a long journey, with ambient views over the Waurn Ponds Creek and pretty garden, and also a cosy fireplace for cooler months. For the more energetic there is a landscaped multi-purpose grass court for tennis, pentaque and croquet.

The lounges and breakfast room each have an elevated view over the garden, water-hole and surrounding hills. You can enjoy the atmosphere while you feast and plan the day ahead.

Accommodation & amenities

Barrabool Hills Retreat has three comfortable, tastefully-furnished guest bedrooms, overlooking the sweeping hills and gardens. Soak up the ambience and enjoy the peace, quiet and little luxuries.

Each room is individual and well-appointed with window treatments for privacy and relaxation. The snug, quality bedding offers a selection of pillows and has electric blankets, to ensure a restful night. Cot available.

The shared bathroom, with 2 Bathrobes per room provided, has

a separate bath, basin, shower and W.C. Hairdryer and complimentary toiletries supplied.

Thoroughly recommended, friendly and hospitable

A little piece of country, so close to a major city! Barraboola Hills Retreat was private, warm and inviting. Hosts were hospitable, beds comfortable. Country breakfast was plentiful and gave good options. Great for an overnight stay or a country getaway for a few days.

quirky, convenient, pleasant and private

Ideal hideaway for anyone with boarders at Geelong Grammar, and who is foreign to Victoria's many outstanding, well developed and preserved tourist sights like the 12 Apostles, and the whole coastline beauty around the peninsula. Sublime rolling-hill estates and rural farmland. Best shopping - you can park outside the shop in Barwon Heads!

Very comfortable; excellent library and fabulous fire-place. Lovely wild garden, and fresh air. Coffee situation could improve; fresh ground coffee a must for travelers seeking luxurious morning.

The delightful hosts are discreet and courteous; the human hosts, Lorelle and family, even more delightful, and who are amusing and hospitable, embodying Victoria's heritage can-do character.

We spent a week there being housed and fed brekky like one of the familiy, eventually being taken along to the local church to celebrate Anzac Day. Were privileged to hear some very valuable history from the living museum congregation, and which endorsed human kindness and immigration policy; French citizens nursing the soldiers after rehabilitation, were then sponsored to live in Australia after the war; good news story:)

Cosy retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and 2 daughters and sons in law spent a lovely night here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lorelle is very friendly and puts on a great buffet breakfast which we all enjoyed in a very relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are lovely and cosy.

Will definitely stay again if we are up that way in the future.
