Overview

Photos and Description of this Bingie holiday house

The Magney House is located on the pristine South Coast of NSW, 20 minutes drive south from the town of Moruya.

Completed in 1984, it is Glenn Murcutt's most famous house. Glenn Murcutt AO is recognised here and overseas as Australia's foremost architect. In 2002 he won the distinguished Pritzker Prize for architecture.

INSIDE THE HOUSE

The house comprises two distinct wings to the east and west of the communal courtyard.

In total, the residence sleeps 10 and is ideal for two families. There are 3 queen bedrooms and 2 single bunk beds (sleeps 4). There are two kitchens with toasters, microwaves, electric kettles and saucepans, crockery and cutlery, and the courtyard with a gas BBQ for easy cooking.

On the eastern side is the main kitchen, master bedroom, private study and bathroom. The main kitchen has an oven, gas cook top, microwave and fridge. There is a Jetmaster gas fireplace, leather lounges, TV, DVD, CD player, as well as dining table and chairs for 8.

The western side has 2 queen bedrooms, the bunkroom, separate shower, toilet and vanity. The western side contains the second kitchen with cooktop and microwave, fridge etc. There is also a second living area, another 8-seater dining table, and comfortable cane lounges, TV and DVD.

The bunkroom is virtually a self contained kids area with table tennis and 2 bunk beds (sleeps four). There is also a second large fridge.

THE SITE

The house is set on 33ha which is slowly regenerating from grazing farm land into natural bushland.

The location and design of the house exploit the northern aspect and assist in passive temperature control in summer and winter. The natural slope of the land provides protection to the south from the fierce weather brought onto the coast by the Pacific Ocean.

The roof line is iconic, as well as practical, catching the rainwater that fills the tank.

The design maximises the views of the surrounding beaches and distant mountains.

The house has been extensively viewed and photographed by architects and lovers of state-of-the-art design around the world, as well as featuring in a number of TV commercials. In 2009 it was featured on an Australian Post stamp.

The house and land are surrounded by the Eurobodalla National Park on three sides. The park is a haven for wildlife and displays diverse habitats.

Beaches: You are spoilt for choice as the area is surrounded by pristine beaches: Bingie beach on the north side of the Bingie Point headland, and Grey Rocks beach at the northern most reaches of Bingie beach are the closest beaches to the property and can be reached via a picturesque walk from the house.

Head over to Mullimburra Point (take the left turn at the T-intersection) for the charming Honey Moon beach with parking.

Drive to Congo beach to explore the diverse rock platform.

Nature walks: Bingie Farm property is right on the boundary of the Eurobodalla National Park. There are a variety of sign-posted walks within the Park to the north as far as Moruya Heads and to the south as far as Tuross.

Growers Market - the Araluen Valley is known for the highest quality organically grown produce. At 3pm on Tuesday afternoons the bell rings and the Moruya Growers market on the banks of the Moruya River gets off to a flying start. Be there on time before the very best of the best is sold out.

Saturday Market - many of the growers are also present on Saturday as well as loads of crafts, arts and comestibles and collectibles.
