The Cottage at Summerlee shouts beach chic ...but, at a price you can afford. Perfect for a couple or a small party, the Cottage offers recently renovated accomodations, private beach access and beach activities, like swimming, kayaking or lounging - all within a few hundred feet of the Chesapeake. Enjoy coffee on your private deck surrounded by native plants, then wander down to the beach. Kayak the Bay or the many secluded creeks filled with wildlife and solitude. Or, bike down to Pt. Lookout Park, only a few miles away. Only 2 hours from Washington or Baltimore, make the Cottage your getway retreat - over and over.

If this Cottage is not available for the dates you desire, email and ask us about our other nearby Chesapeake Bay options that are appropriate for smaller parties.

About Peggy Binzel

Love urban life; also, love the isolated beach with amazing wildlife. Scotland is a welcome retreat from hectic city life.

Why Peggy Binzel chose Chesapeake Bay

Scotland is a rare find. Rarely do you find an area that begins with beautiful forests and opens up onto fabulous beaches. Little traffic but only 2 hours from Washington or Baltimore. I discovered a jewel.

What makes this cottage unique

Sunrise over the Bay with morning coffee is heavenly. Walks on the beach. Take a 30 minute kayak ride or a 5 hours one - very convenient out the front door. Enjoy a tasting of good quality local wines at beautiful Woodlawn plantation just 10 miles away.

Great right-sized pad by the sea. Thank you so much.

This is a great place. We very much enjoyed a nice kayak run north then into the lagoon. Lots of bird watching. Wonderful place, very nicely setup.

Perfect for couple - quiet!

  • 4 of 5

It's hard to find a rental this small and reasonable! We enjoyed the house and the non-beachy decor. The cottage is far enough away from other houses it would probably be relatively quiet even if other house on beach had an outdoor party. The available bikes, kayaks, etc. made this an easy getaway. Having wifi and cable allowed us to keep up with the news and baseball playoffs when we were stuck in the rain. The washer/dryer was nice option to keep stinky towels to a minimum. Basic toiletries and kitchen cleaning supplies meant we didn't have to remember everything. This is a great option and we will be back!

Perfect

Peggy was amazing,

The house was clean and updated. Even when it rained my husband and I loved the two decks that we could sit and listen to the crashing of the waves. The rooms were perfect size and clean. The kitchen was big and roomy. There is an all season room that seated easily 8 people. I would highly recommend this rental. I can't wait to come back.

Great little cottage!

  • 4 of 5

On a good friend's recommendation we booked Summerlee Cottage for a weekend getaway. Love the decor and very well appointed--especially love the Turkish towels! It's a close walk to a cool little beach area and we made our way to a few neighboring sites to enjoy the local flavor. We didn't get a chance to use the kayaks due to our short stay, but we did take a little ride on the bicycles provided. They're old school bikes and a bit on the rusty side so if we return, we'll bring our own bikes since it appears there is much to see and plenty of good paths in the area!

Special haven!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to escape the world!! We arrived after dark and were a little uncertain of where we were going but once we turned on the lights at Summerlee cottage, all was well! Every detail was thought of and executed exquisitely! One would think, what are we going to go out here, between Buzzy's, Courtney's and Point Lookput park, we were quite entertained for the weekend! Oh yea, then there's the private beach! Simply lovely! Peggy was very accommodating with our schedules, which put the icing on the cake! We will be back!

Not Picture Perfect

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was not as appealing to my wife and I as others have commented. The exterior landscape and weeds have not been dealt with in quite sometime, dried up leaves from the fall and overgrown weeds at the entrance made for a bad first impression. The interior could use a deep cleaning to remove dead bugs and spider webs that were present as soon as we entered the cottage. I will say Rob & Bob responded immediately to the broken chairs outside, grill replacement and some other minor lighting issues inside. I do agree with a previous review that the greenhouse should be turned into something more useful. Larger guest would find the full size bed not to appealing and should be addressed in the bedding description. Kayaking the bay was great but swimming was difficult to access the water, the bottom is all rock. The best part of our stay was crabbing in the creek less 50 yards away, steamed crabs everyday!

Owner's Response: First, we appreciate all guests' comments. And, the number of return guests we have every year represents a recognition that we aim to makes their stay as enjoyable as possible in a setting that is as lovely as possible. And, Summerlee Cottage is an amazing value for the money, especially given its location so close to its own private beach. Yes, the bed is double. And that is referenced in the information about the bedroom and bed type. We are sorry that this guest was unhappy with the exterior grounds. We pride ourselves in maintaining a beautiful setting with mostly native plants and grasses. However, it's been over 90 degrees for many weeks straight, which has made the grounds look temporarily parched. We'll be able to revive them as soon as the temperature eases back a bit. As for the comment about rocks, this we dispute. The beach is very sandy, including for more than 50 feet out - and this is a recent check (not an old assumption). There are some small pebbles that wash up but no "rocks." The Cottage is professionally cleaned between every guest and we are quick to address any concerns that guests have if we ever don't get it quite right. Finally, we all agree that developing the greenhouse into another living area would be ideal - that's on our list to do. Thanks for the opportunity to respond.
