Our Idea of paradise. Homely rustic charm with gorgeous countryside views. Felt like a home from home. Great kitchen and utensils, really clean, lots of cosy touches. We will definitely be back. The dogs absolutely loved it too. Thanks Ross & Co.

Exactly what we wanted it to be

  • 5 of 5

I booked this place for myself and a group of friends as an annual weekend getaway. Each year it is the next person in the groups turn to pick a new holiday house / pay and do all of the organising (more pressure than any one person should ever have to cope with!) After 7 years of this trialling a new place each year we have found 'the one'. The Old Shearing Shed is simply majestic. It is full of character and charm and the view out over the Valley from both inside and outside ( great big windows with a perfectly placed daybed) literally stops you in your tracks,, it is simply mesmerising. You can also set up a tee and smash old golf balls as far into the valley as you can..not necessarily as soul cleansing as staring out into a valley watching the sunset with a glass of red but equally as satisfying! Another highlight was the extra large dinning table and adjoining open plan kitchen area - each night preparing dinner, eating, cleaning and the after dinner drinks all merged into one social gathering / sitting which was exactly what we were after given we look forward to this holiday catch up all year. I really can't recommend this place enough. After 7 years of trialling a new holiday house each year we all agreed we won't risk disappointment next year, we are coming back to the Shearing Shed and can't wait!

Shanti Shanti

Reconnected with nature and the 4 elements high on a hill surrounded by pasture and rain forest. The accommodation was very cosy when the weather closed in and when the sun showed its face ahhh... the turqoise ocean in the distance. "Far away from the madding crowds" an opportunity to re engage with silence and rediscover peace.

Did we stay at the same place as the previous reviewer ??!!This place is a gem! Our family, kids, dogs and all, felt immediately comfortable in this fabulously restored and decorated shearing shed. Quiet (we slept like babies), clean, loads of space, toasty warm with everything we needed and more. Sensational views with eagles, horses, cows, kangaroos and a particularly hilarious goat wandering through to add to the fun. Short drive down to gorgeous Apollo Bay beach - the walk down the hill even better. Highly recommended! We will be back!

Needs a bit of attention

  • 2 of 5

There is a difference between rustic and old. The wool shed might have been rustic at its inception but now is just old. Remove kitch prints from toilet, clean other prints and spiderwebs from lighting and roof, fix bathroom door as gets stuck on tiles and bathtub needs re-enamelling. I tried to sleep most of the time but ended up with sore ribs due to the wires of the mattress digging into me, hence mattresses need replacing and linens should be white, it smelt like they had not been washed as I could smell other people's body odours in the pillow and doona. A table and some chairs on the verandah where we could have enjoyed a glass of wine would have been nice.

Owner's Response: Hello Leah, We are extremely sorry that you had this experience at the shearing shed. We have taken your criticism on board and rectified accordingly. I can assure you you would have been sleeping on clean linen and the mattresses are reasonably new so how you felt springs is beyond me. Tables and chairs on the deck just don't work with the inclement weather experienced in Apollo Bay, hence the fixed table and chairs you would have seen. This is the first time we have ever had such criticism from a guest as you can see from previous guest reviews after 6 years of offering our shed to the public. Hundreds of people have stayed there over this time and everybody has loved it. I guess an idea like ours does not suit everybody though so perhaps a hotel might suit you better in the future.
