Our Retreat offers a Country style Cottage situated on the fringe to the Barrington Tops. Barrington Village Retreat looks like a Barnhouse from the outside but don't be surprised by it's appearance as it has a very modern interior with an eclectic décor mixing the old with the new.

The Country Retreat has front and back outdoor areas with a B-B-Q and comfortable outdoor furniture. It is a great way to unwind and relax with a glass of wine from our local winerys or enjoy a freshly brewed coffee.

Coffee & Tea making facilities are available at all times. Guests can also relax in the late afternoon sunlight with a good book from our extensive library. We also supply a game of Bolle' which is enormous fun and can be played on the front or back lawn.

A chess set, CDs, DVDs and games are available for you to play if the weather turns stormy.

We can accommodate 2 people in the Queen size bedroom which has an ensuit bathroom . The luxuriously decorated bedroom has beautiful antique furniture and a TV for those Guests who love a sleep in in the morning whilst having your breakfast served to you in bed by your loved one or maybe taking in a late night movie.

The crisp white sheets are a plus and the bed is so comfortable you will think you are sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom is large with plenty of white towels. There is a Sofa bed in the living area for an extra Guest and a Guest toilet for their convenience. The day bed is also great for stretching out whilst watching TV..... We are pet friendly and have a closed in back yard for your Pet to run about and a doggy door for them to come and go. We welcome your Pet to come inside as long as they are puppy trained. We do however not take any reasonability for your furry friend whilst staying with us...

Barrington Village Retreat is located only 5 mins drive from Gloucester and three hours north of Sydney. The Hunter Valley, Forster and Taree are all one to one and a half hours away. There are several vineyards in our area for you to enjoy and many activities around for you to participate in.... The horse riding at Camp Cobark is a favourite of most guests, the many scenic walks are amongst the best in NSW. We have beautiful waterfalls to picnic by, and amazing rivers to canoe on. Whether it be a Babbling Brook or a Raging Rapid, you will have the time of your life. The hire service for your canoe is just a short distance away and they can organise a guided tour for you. The township of Gloucester has many cafes & Restaurants for you to dine, and there is a Bowling Club, Solders Club a Golf Club with a challenging 9 hole Golf course. We have a museum, Art gallery and not far away is a Gold Mine, plenty to do and much to see.

About Lyn Phillips

I was Brought up on the south side of Sydney at Blakehurst and when I was twenty one I travelled to England by ship. I visited Europe several times and after two years I returned home. It was very much a learning experience for me and I had lots of stories to tell.

Sydney seemed a little behind the times for me and I was toying with the Idea of returning to England when I discovered Thredbo in the Snowy mountains. In those days Thredbo was very sophisticated and reminded me of Europe so I lived there for many years. It was a lively existence as the pace was very fast. I ran Ski Lodges and Skied whenever I had a chance. In the off Season I travelled to the States. Vail and Sun Valley were my favourite places and I had a wonderful time working looking after children and skiing every chance I could. When my skiing days were over I returned to Sydney. I took up residence at Fairwater in Double bay working for Lady Mary Fairfax as her personal assistant, mainly looking after her personal needs.

It was a great job but I longed for the Mountains and ended up in Gloucester 4 years later.

Barrington Village Retreat is my second holiday place, my first was called Peglynton Lodge on the Kiora lookout here in Barrington. That was an amazing place. Five Guest bedrooms with ensuit and a 30 seat a la carte' Restaurant. Nearly killed me as I was the Chief cook and bottle washer and also ran a B&B. I had help of cause but the hours were long and hard.

I sold that after four years and now have this retreat which I run with my Husband Maurice. The pace is a lot slower now and my main interest is my rescued animals.

We have three Dogs two cats and five chooks and they are our Family.

To have a small Country Cottage - Holiday House is a perfect place for us as we both love people and to have the advantage of our Guests bringing there beloved Fury Friends for a holiday is very pleasing to us.

We will look forward to your visit.

Why Lyn Phillips chose Barrington

I bought this property because it had a beautiful view. I built the Cottage from scratch and as I always wanted to live in a converted Barn made of steel I went out and bought myself this Australian barn and had it erected on my block of land. I was the owner builder on the job as I had had experience working on building sites in Thredbo. When I wasn't over in America Skiing in Our summers I was working as project manager on the Ski Lodges I was to manage when they were ready for the season. It was a very rewarding challenge as I was able to put all my ideas together on my own place. I am extremely happy with the way my Barnhouse turned out and really enjoy living here. It is like being on holidays all the time.

What makes this cottage unique

The view from the back terrace is so very relaxing one could spend many hours enjoying the changing scenery. Animals lazily roaming about, Birds fluttering by, the Ducks and their Ducklings swimming around on the dam- so restful you will think you don't have a worry in the world.

Very special few days

  • 5 of 5

Found this to be a most convenient location to explore Barrington Tops and the Gloucester surrounds. The accommodation was tops with way more space and niceties than one would usually receive... Super comfy bed, beautiful decor and absolutely like home away from home. The warmth and special touch of hosts Lyn & Maurie, together with their four-legged family members, made for a memorable few days, which we will cherish. Not to mention the numerous sightings of Maurie Birds!

Beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Barrington Village Retreat provides amazing views from the garden and was a great place to relax for a couple of days. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need for self catering including a drawer full of spices.

10 out of 10!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in a number of B&Bs over the years, but this one has to be one of the better ones. The location was delightful (even with the rain!) and the hospitality shown was first class.

Many thanks to you both, Lyn and Maurice, we will be back!

Christmas In Barrington

  • 5 of 5

Barrington Village Retreat was a delight. Lyn the owner was indeed a lovely lady and so tolerant putting up with our 2 little canines barking at all the horses, King Parrots, Galahs and all the other wildlife.

Both Lyn and Maurie (Lyn's partner) were so eager to ensure we had ourselves a wonderful time. Particularly with their knowledge of the area, advising us of the many attractions, very memorable I assure you. The views from the verandah over paddocks and the surrounding mountains were spectacular, very peaceful, comfortable and the cabin is equipped with everything anybody could want or need. The bed I couldn't fault, the variety of entertainment DVDs and CDs covered just about every style of movie and music. The kitchen was a cook's dream, I could not find a utensil herb or spice that I needed that wasn't provided. So much better than I expected having stayed in numerous establishments (not reviewed) and always missing something, this definitely cannot be said for our stay at Barrington Village Retreat.

We were astounded that we were able to book in for Christmas, I very much doubt it will be available the same time this year when word gets out. We absolutely loved the few days we were fortunate to book, thank you Lyn and anybody planning a stay do yourself a favour and ask about her beautiful home made jams, they are delicious and unique.
