About Julia King - Manager / Keith Hallett - Owner
" This magical place is our home, and nothing makes us happier than inviting you to come here and create your own beautiful memories. " ~ Keith & Elisabeth Hallett The story of Lonely Goat Olives began in 2001 when Keith & Elisabeth Hallett were travelling around the Hunter Valley wine region re-stocking their wine collection. Little were they to know that they would stumble on a 100 acre paddock with a few cattle and covered in tree stumps left by logging. It was love at first sight, the next Monday their offer was accepted and the journey began. With no idea what to do with this bush block with magnificent views Keith & Elisabeth consulted with the bottle of 2000 Shiraz they had just bought to try and work out what to do next. Gradually, soil improvement programs were put in place to breathe life into the cattle trodden paddocks. This was followed by the construction of 4 dams and a series of buildings. Keith & Elisabeth had a strong desire to be very kind to the environment and to be as self-sufficient as possible. In 2005 they were an early adopter of solar and wind technology to provide power for the entire farm. This was followed by rainwater harvesting involving a combination of tanks interconnected and allowing gravity fed water supply to all buildings. The quest for self-sufficiency continues with Keith & Elisabeth becoming self-sufficient in at least one more product each year. 2018 saw the introduction of a planting of saffron, turmeric and a number of other plants, and an expansion of the chook house to give the chickens more room to roam around (supplying Keith, Elisabeth and all the guests who come and stay with fresh eggs), and the construction of a large greenhouse for the ever expanding olive tree nursery. This story is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through hard work, vision and passion. Visit Lonely Goat Olives and hear the story told first had – you will be inspired. We look forward to meeting you!

Three glorious days at Lonely Goat
We have just spent three fantastic days at lovely, peaceful Lonely Goat Olive Farm. Our room was spacious, clean and the bed super comfortable. Elisabeth and Keith couldn't have been more welcoming and the supply of breakfast goodies was a much appreciated touch. The cottage is so peaceful and the deck and veranda are fantastic to sit on for meals and watching the beautiful highland cattle and the evening roo run to the water holes. The chickens were lovely to visit and feed and thank you, girls, for your delicious eggs! Can't recommend this place highly enough and we will certainly return. In fact we enjoyed it so much we didn't even bother going to a vineyard!! Thank you Elisabeth and Keith.

Lovely view from the deck.
Check in and communication was great.
amazing country getaway with fabulous views
Elizabeth and Keith have an amazing property with perfect views of the Hunter Valley. They provide you with everything you need for a home away from home... even jackets and slippers if its a cold morning! It was fabulous sitting out on the large deck overlooking their farm with the cattle, kangaroos and birds, it was so peaceful and quite.
Breakfast and pizza making supplies were great and Keith came to help us get the pizza oven going.
Highly recommend for a couple or family to get away from the city for a relaxing weekend away. Close to vineyards and the Zoo if you want to get out, but more than enough to do and see at the property.
Little slice of heaven
Charming and idyllic spot to get away. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought in to providing a home away from home for guests. Lots of thoughtful and practical little touches often missing from bigger places to make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable. Also 100% off grid which is very impressive but still includes all the usual modern luxuries. Limited phone reception but great wifi. Would definitely recommend for families/ couple or small group. Close enough to the vineyards but just as tempting is to stay put and enjoy the surrounds. Will be back.
Heaven on Earth
I honestly don't think I've ever stayed anywhere that I've loved more.
Cottage at Lonely Goat Olives is serene, gorgeous, practical, and just generally a delight to live in and around.
The accommodation is cosy, feels like home, and is well-equipped. The outdoor kitchen is a really interesting and unique feature; we loved it since it sort of made mealtimes into a fun, communal activity. Making pizzas in their woodfired oven was a blast, and delicious to boot.
There's loads of fresh ingredients to access - fresh eggs, fruit, veges, herbs and more. There's even a pond with fishing gear, if you're keen to catch your dinner!
We particularly enjoyed the communal areas; the deck overlooking a spectacular view of the farm and surrounding hills, and the firepit area are absolute highlights. The photos of the views simply don't do the scale and beauty of the surrounds justice.
The 4 cows they have on-site (Glen, Fiddich, Taggart and Sirloin) are lovely, and we were lucky enough to hand feed them, which was really nice.
Finally, our hosts (Keith and Liza) were an absolute pleasure to deal with, and really made sure we had a special time around their property with some lovely touches. Thank you for the pride you take in your farm and your hospitality.
Nice family getaway
Beautiful property, young children really love the animals. Offers a great experience over staying at a regular hotel or holiday house. Elizabeth and Keith are wonderful hosts.
