About this property

Cottage at Lonely Goat Olives, Hunter Valley

Lonely Goat Olives offers a boutique, 2 bedroom cottage on our 100 acre olive farm in the picturesque Hunter Valley. Private, charming and nestled among spectacular views.
Cosy up in front of the fire place in your room, or sit on the huge 50m2 deck overlooking the valley and olive grove. There are comfortable chairs and a small dining table in each room. There is no indoor lounge area, but with this view you will want to spend all your time sitting on the deck relaxing and taking it all in!
One bedroom has a 4 poster king size bed, the other room has a king size sleigh bed and a single bed (the cottage sleeps 5 in total). Each room has its own private en suite with luxurious 2 person walk in shower!
Use the open air kitchen BBQ, or wood fire pizza oven to cook up a feed.
Collect eggs from our chook house, pick fruit from our orchard, fresh vegetables & herbs from the garden, or catch fish from the dam!
We also have a range of hampers & grazing platters full of delicious local produce available for purchase (must be pre-ordered).

We are family friendly, if you are travelling with kids, send us a message so we can update your quote to a family package.

We are dog friendly, your dog is welcome in the cottage but not on any furniture. The cottage balcony is fenced, but the rest of the property has no dog-proof fences so you will need to keep good control of your dog so it doesn't chase or harass any wildlife or our highland cattle.

Lonely Goat Olives also offers a bespoke ceremony location. Create your dream wedding, naming ceremony or family celebration at our stunning outdoor ceremony space - perfect for unique, intimate events.

Families, couples, bird watchers, photographers, painters, walkers, wildlife observers have all loved their stay (but don't just take our word for it, read the reviews from previous guests), and Lonely Goat Olives was previously voted one of the Best 52 Weekends Away by the Sydney Morning Herald!

If you are looking for flexible, personal options on a property that is completely powered by solar energy and has been built with love by our family to share with yours - come and find out why Lonely Goat Olives.

Fabulous stay
Thanks so much Keith and Elisabeth for a wonderful stay. Both so lovely and helpful, greeting us on arrival, showed us around the property and checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. The property manager was also really helpful and friendly. We took our two dogs and they loved it (the balcony is all fenced off, which is perfect for dogs). Beautiful sunrise in the morning, great fire pit outside and pizza oven. The eggs from the chickens were delicious. It’s nice and quiet yet close enough to town to still do activities. Would come back again. Definitely recommend. Thank you!

" This magical place is our home, and nothing makes us happier than inviting you to come here and create your own beautiful memories. "
~ Keith & Elisabeth Hallett

The story of Lonely Goat Olives began in 2001 when Keith & Elisabeth Hallett were travelling around the Hunter Valley re-stocking their wine collection. Little were they to know that they would stumble on a 100 acre paddock with a few cattle and covered in tree stumps left by logging.
It was love at first sight, the next Monday their offer was accepted and the journey began.
With no idea what to do with this bush block with magnificent views Keith & Elisabeth consulted with the bottle of 2000 Shiraz they had just bought to try and work out what to do next.
Gradually, soil improvement programs were put in place to breathe life into the cattle trodden paddocks. This was followed by the construction of 4 dams and a series of buildings.
Keith & Elisabeth had a strong desire to be very kind to the environment and to be as self-sufficient as possible.
In 2005 they were an early adopter of solar and wind technology to provide power for the entire farm. This was followed by rainwater harvesting involving a combination of tanks interconnected and allowing gravity fed water supply to all buildings. The whole property is 100% off grid.
The quest for self-sufficiency continues with Keith & Elisabeth becoming self-sufficient in at least one more product each year.
2018 saw the introduction of a planting of saffron, turmeric and a number of other plants, and an expansion of the chook house to give the chickens more room to roam around (supplying Keith, Elisabeth and all the guests who come and stay with fresh eggs), and the construction of a large greenhouse for the ever expanding olive tree nursery.
This story is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through hard work, vision and passion.

We look forward to meeting you!
