Cozy Cottage by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

Mark was a delight through the whole process. The cottage is a quintessential Irish cottage by the sea...just as imagined. It was very comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped, and conveniently located close to many great must-see places. If you plan to visit Co. Mayo, I highly recommend staying at Sea Cottage on Clew Bay!

A sweet home in a glorious setting

  • 4 of 5

For what we needed and wanted it was perfect. Not luxurious but enough of everything essential, which seemed so in tune with the nature outside. Being in a little converted cottage felt like being in sync with that environment.

Mark was very responsive and available for any little thing that arose and a few things did. The only thing I would urge is that Mark write a detailed manual for guests. I'm not very technologically savvy and could never figure out how to work the DVD. The heating system remained one of the great mysteries etc.

The Cottage was clean, sufficiently furnished and stocked and provided cozy refuge in a wonderful wild nature.

Needs a bit more TLC but a very good place for walking and touring.

  • 3 of 5

This cottage is clean and comfortable and in a beautiful part of Mayo. It is very close to a beach but this beach is not walkable (we did see a seal, however). The cottage has all the basic amenities but instructions need to be given for the heating - it was very chilly when we arrived; and no sign of the wifi password. The cottage is wooden floors throughout without any rugs; there is very little proper space for clothes (one bedroom is only big enough for a double bed); minimal crockery (6 cups, 6 plates etc -); nothing terrible but not very welcoming. Two plastic outdoor chairs; no table and an almost unuseable can opener! It felt very hands off though I reached the owner rapidly by phone and he was very helpful. It felt like it was being seen as a 'business'. Just some more TLC please!

Beautiful seaside retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Sea Cottage offers a perfect place to explore all that the West of Ireland has to offer. It is set in a beautiful location overlooking Clew Bay and the surrounding country side and mountains. The cottage itself has everything you need including a cozy fireplace in the living room and a full kitchen. Louisburgh and Westport towns are very close by with shopping, groceries, restaurants and of course pubs to enjoy. There are also several beautiful sandy beaches in the area. We highly recommend bringing wetsuits if you plan on swimming, surfing, snorkeling etc. There are countless outdoor activities in the area also. We very much enjoyed the long walks, climbing Croagh Patrick, and biking on the Great Western Greenway which runs from Westport to Achill Island. (you can rent bikes for a very reasonable cost). We also loved taking the ferry on day trips to Clare Island, Inishbofin, and Inishturk.

We highly recommend staying at Sea Cottage, we miss it very much.

Comfortable clean unfussy welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

A lovely, well kept, comfortable and welcoming home from home. Thoughtful extras were appreciated - music, videos, radios where your want them (ie not just the living room), fuel for a fire, basic food stuffs in the cupboards. The 4 swallows nesting in the shed were a joy!! Great location - well the West is - but down a quiet boreen, practically on the beach - great! Pity about lack of easier beach access, but hey - as long as you can nip over the wall, its not a problem. And thanks to our host for quick and effective response to a question re heating. Great stay. Now if you could do something about the weather.....

Beautiful area wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to Ireland we wanted to experience nature and hiking. We have been able to climb a 2000ft peak at Claire island, walk the rim of horseshoe mountains in Connemara National Park and behold the breath taking views at the Cliffs of Moher. Would highly recommend visiting Claire Island(great hikes across the entire island, beautiful beach)and biking the Greenway. Clewbaybike hire dropped us in Achill and we rode 46km back to Westport for a fantastic ride with wonderful views. You can do all this from your very comfortable cosey home base at Sea Cottage. Mark was very responsive to our needs and questions. You will be very happy here. I will miss the view out the kitchen window of the the bay and mountains.
