Just 3 hrs from Sydney or Canberra, Swanlake Cottage is positioned on a big bush block, right across from the crystal clear waters and sandy beaches of Swan Lake. The quiet village of Swanhaven lies about 3 km from Sussex Inlet and is surrounded by Nat. Parks.

The timber-clad rustic cottage has a large private garden, frequented by a multitude of birds and other animals. Three bedrooms sleep up to 8 people. It has fly-screens on all windows and doors and stays cool without carbon emissions under the tree cover. There is no air conditioning.

The house features timber floors and original paintings, is furnished with retro timber furniture and has a warm, lived-in feel.

It has a fully-equipped kitchen, integrated into a dining area with a dishwasher, gourmet gas stove, oven, microwave, fridge (second fridge in laundry), toaster, kettle, bread maker and all the kitchen equipment you might need, including a store of basic cooking ingredients, such as spices, tea, coffee, oil and vinegar etc. in case you forgot to bring some crucial item.

On colder days, a slow combustion fireplace in the main living area heats the whole house (wood is provided).

There is a piano, a big flat screen digital smart TV (with on demand and Netflix option), DVD and CD player with USB input, a radio, games, a few toys and a filled bookshelf.

There is a telephone in the house as well as unlimited broadband and a Netflix subscription.

The uniquely styled bathroom has a full-sized bathtub and plenty of hot water. The laundry has a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

You can choose to either clean the house yourself before you leave or let us do it for you for an additional charge of $75. You also have the option of getting us to make your beds and supply your sheets and towels for $30 p/p our bring your own.

Relax Body and Soul

One of the main features of the property is the big secluded garden, with a little pond, old gum trees, tree ferns, orchids and lilies. There are many places already set up for you to sit down and relax and further spots for your sun chair to move with the sun. Forget about time on the all weather undercover front veranda or the "winter veranda" which both look out towards the lake, or seek total privacy on the partly covered back veranda. Here you can also have a wood-fired BBQ and eat at the table setting on the deck. The fully fenced back garden also features another fire place. The use of our Hobie canoe (2 1/2 people) for trips on the lake and one bicycle are included in the deal.

Quality Environment

The holiday village of Swanhaven is a sleepy bush settlement straight out of the 1960's. It is a paradise for nature lovers.

At Swanlake Cottage you can watch the sun set over the lake from the cosy front veranda, take the kids for a safe swim on the sandy beaches of the pristine lake, paddle a canoe across its shallow waters, go to the playground on the way or take off for a surf on one of the nearby untouched beaches. There are fishing spots on the lake, ocean and nearby creeks and rivers. The more active can also discover plenty of bush-walks in the surrounding National Parks and Nature Reserves.

If you are bringing your motor boat please stick to the designated boat ramps and speed limits. There are black swans and a great number of other birds breeding in the shallow parts of the lake.

A 15 minute walk along the lake or a short trip in the car brings you to the untouched beaches of Wreck Bay, where dolphins and whales pass by while you relax under your umbrella or on your surf- or body-board. There is a Surf Life Saving Club in Sussex Inlet with a surf reef at the tip of the head and a calm swimming spot at Berrara Beach.

Sussex Inlet has a few cafes and restaurants, a supermarket, bottle shop, bank, pub, boat rentals, RSL club and even an old fashioned cinema. There is a market every second weekend. The caravan park on the main road to Sussex has a takeaway, a small shop and a laundry. There is a bus route to Sussex Inlet and Nowra and a taxi operator in town.

Swanhaven is surrounded by National Parks. Plenty of outings to either the coastal National Parks or the Great Dividing Range with, for example, Ben Boyd Lookout or Pigeon House Mt walks, or the coastal towns such as Ulladulla, Milton, Batemans Bay, etc. are very attractive. At Jervis Bay, located just north of this area, you can go on Whale watching and Dolphin tours, as well as diving expeditions.

There are maps and some informational brochures in the house.

Lovely relaxing cottage next to lake.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful few days after xmas staying at Swanlake Cottage. After all the rushing around of the festive season it was such a relaxing time. The cottage is very eclectic, cosy, relaxing and different to anywhere we have stayed before. The gardens also make it very private. Our favourite spot was sitting on the front veranda on the big leather lounge with our dogs sleeping at our feet. The location to the lake is excellent and our dogs enjoyed their walks and swims everyday. The house is very warm and inviting and you feel like you are staying with a relative but without the relative! Trudi has so many extras in the house which is wonderful, if you have forgotten anything chances are it will already be in the house. Trudi has really been very thoughtful setting up this house for rentals. We will certainly be back when in need of more R & R.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint and quirky, charming Cottage - very relaxing. With everything we needed. All as advertised. Secure yard for our 4 legged baby. Close to Lake and Beach. We would be very happy to stay again. Excellent value. Gorgeous location.

Wonderful place.

  • 5 of 5

The whole family enjoyed our stay, homely place with lots of interesting things to see , very convenient to the lake and not far from the beach or town.

Great place to sit outside and listen to the birds.

For us it was wonderful and the type of place we would love our own home to be like.

Lovely lakeside retreat.

  • 5 of 5

My wife, our dog and I stayed a couple of nights in this beautiful little cottage and loved the tranquil nature of the property and surrounding areas. Even though it rained for most of our stay we enjoyed making the most of what the house and the gardens had to offer, as did the dog. There is plenty of space for 6+ people at Swanlake cottage but was still cosy with just the 3 of us there.

Highly recommended.

Rustic, relaxing retreat by the lake

  • 5 of 5

Two couples, a teenager and 3 dogs were very well catered for at Swanlake Cottage. There was easily room for us all, and we enjoyed time on the back deck, lounging on the front veranda, and watching the Australian Open tennis on the big screen TV from the comfort of the Balinese daybed. The lush gardens provide privacy and a cooling environment. The eclectic mix of art, furniture and collectables gives the cottage character and interest. Of importance to us (with a Houdini-like dog) was the secure back yard! The two fridges and high quality gas oven made self catering easy, and we also enjoyed several local eating options. The photos are a true reflection of the cottage. The owner is responsive and pleasant. We hope to return.
