Check out a tiny sample of The House at Smoko guest anecdotes...

"It is a very special place and to be honest, we felt a bit honoured to be there. We were working hard to come up with some improvement ideas, and all we could come up with was to sit the house on a rotating disc. This would mean we could admire the different views and perspectives on different days". Cam.

"We had two nights at the house with kids and it was perfect.  The exterior and interior design is spectacular and warm at the same time.  The place is so impressive it made me drive to Bright and buy better wine and cheese. We plan on using it as a base for ski trips and gluttony missions.  It's the kind of retreat you want to buy, but you'd spend a lifetime getting every detail up to the standard of this place". Daniel."

"This is a beautiful place, perfect for families or groups of friends. It surpassed even our high expectations. We arrived to a warm house, with a fire set. The quality of the building, linen, finishes is outstanding. Thoughtful touches like a bottle of good quality maple syrup amongst the pantry items is typical of the attention to detail. Our children explored the bush for hours and played while we relaxed in sunny nooks and day beds or in front of the large fire. Every window has a beautiful view. The view of the snow capped mountains from the enormous dining room window is a knockout. Thank you so much for a memorable weekend. We'll be back". Sam."

"A beautiful house with immaculate presentation and surrounds and exquisite small touches. A great base for snowfields, fishing and exploring Bright and surrounds. Hightly recommended". Susan."

Wonderful country experience

One of the most beautiful, peaceful and comfortable properties we have ever stayed in. The home is immaculately presented and spotless. The owners have ensured everything is here to ensure our stay is a thoroughly

enjoyable experience.

Beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Smoko and enjoyed it so much we almost forgot we had to leave! Comfortable, warm and homely, we enjoyed the open fire on the cold nights and everything that Bright, Harrietville and the surrounds offered during the day. Ginger Baker in Bright and the Snowline Hotel in Harrietville for Sunday lunch roast is highly recommended.

Superb experience

  • 5 of 5

We visited with four school- aged children for the weekend. Everything was perfect: the light, the architecture, furniture, the fire, the surrounds, the views. The kids explored and played outside for hours. The beds are superbly comfortable. We want to return for a weekend with friends and have a slap up dinner party and spend the Sunday, walking in the bush and sitting reading books and chatting in nooks and pools of sunlight inside and out. There are no corners cut here. Everything is high quality and Richard was very helpful with all arrangements and any queries.

Total Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a lovely 3 days with friends from Melbourne and our Lab Milo, at the beautiful "House at Smoko".

No worries about being cold as the house is well equipped, with under floor heating in various areas (which we didn't need to use), panel heating in most rooms that worked extremely well and even got a bit hot through the night. Fabulous open fire that added to the ambiance, and an outdoor fire place that we spent hours every evening in front of, enjoying the serenity and each others company.

Every convenience is supplied throughout the entire house, we wanted for nothing.

The house is very nicely decorated, with comfortable and relaxing pieces that have been thoughtfully selected with the guest in mind.

The kitchen was a great place use and I specially loved the dining table and chairs.

Milo had a wonderful stay waking us every morning with him running through piles of autumn leaves outside the bedroom window.

We all left with thoughts of coming back for another stay and making it longer.

Thankyou Richard and Amanda.
