All beds have top and bottom cotton sheets, and summer dooners. There is extra linen, blankets and dooners in the linen cupboards. Every bedroom has ceiling fans. You can make freshly ground and brewed coffee using the coffee machine provided, or iced coffee, or tea and sit on one of the shaded decks to watch the children play under the garden hose or my hens antics. Plenty of room for all your drinks, ice and ice cream. So come stay at "Janine's" and stay Cool this summer.

WINTER

Canberra can also get pretty cold in winter but you will be warm at "Janine's"! Firstly the house walls and roof are fully insulated. The living areas and two bedrooms have a northerly aspect with large glass windows to let in that winter sun. Thick curtains to keep out the cold winter nights. There is a slow combustion wood heater in the lounge room with wood, kindling, paper and a long fire lighter supplied. They are located in the wooden box next to the fireplace. The whole house is also centrally gas heated. This is programmed for your general comfort but may be adjusted to suit your personal comfort. The instructions are located inside the control panel found in the family room. There is also a far infra red sauna in the family room. Very warm and therapeutic. Hospitals use them to speed up healing. The instructions are posted inside the unit framed on the wall. But basically you just press and hold the large on/off button to turn on and press and hold the same button till the indicator lights turn off to turn the sauna off. All double and queen sized beds have electric blankets. All beds have top and bottom flannelette sheets, woollen blankets and thick dooners. There is linen, extra blankets and dooners in the linen cupboards. Still not warm! kidding right? You can also warm up with a freshly ground and brewed coffee made using the coffee machine provided. Or tea. And cook up a nice warm meal in the fully equipped kitchen. So come stay at "Janine's" and stay Warm!

Awful experience!

  • 1 of 5

Our family recently stayed at Janine’s guesthouse as we were visiting Canberra for a family wedding. We were looking for a large, clean, house suitable for 5 adults and 5 young children. We had read previous reviews on the Stayz website stating that this accomodation was exactly what we were after, so we went ahead and booked.

I find it quite difficult to actually describe our experience, as it was so disappointing! We have never written a negative review about anywhere we have stayed before, however I think it’s important that other families with young children are pre-warned what to expect, before booking.

We actually arrived an hour or so before our arrival time, due to having unsettled babies in the car. Janine was cleaning the house on arrival and she was very pleasant about letting us in early. That we appreciated. Once she left we went to find our rooms and make some lunch.

Let’s start with the kitchen. Beyond dirty. Every glass, plate, cup etc needed a wash before using. The high chair was also filthy. There was a large amount of left over food from previous guests (or Janine) in the dirty fridge and left over garbage on the kitchen bench. Not quite the welcome we hoped!

The floor had been vacuumed, but clearly not mopped. We all had dirty, dusty feed after walking around and therefore had to wear thongs to walk around. We felt uncomfortable letting our children play on the floor, and as there was NO aircon we took the kids on to the deck to play.

The deck area and garden is not safe at all for young children. The outdoor settings were beyond filthy, as were the chairs and BBQs. We decided to eat out so we didn’t have to use the kitchen facilities or dirty tables and chairs.

The bedsheets appeared to be clean, which was good! However, all of Janine’s stuff was in the main bedroom making us feel like she had just popped out for the weekend! The fan in the master bedroom was so noisy we couldn’t use it as it kept the baby awake. There were even dirty flannels and half used shower gels in the grubby shower. Not pleasant when trying to bathe your children! The towels however approved to be clean, thank goodness!

Cockroaches and spiders everywhere! Insect spray had kindly been left for us, which is no surprise considering the infestation we saw!

This review could go on and on. We were beyond disappointed with what we experienced and were extremely tempted to leave after just 1 night. The only reason we didn’t leave was be

Fantastic Home Away from Home

  • 4 of 5

Our family group of 13 people found this a lovely home, a quiet retreat away from the City. We had all the facilities, fully furnished living and dining rooms, very clean, well equipped kitchen with everything a home kitchen would have.

The big pergola with bbq faciities, and the private garden at the back provided a very safe play area for our kids. Unfortunately our kids couldn't find any chickens or eggs!!

This beautiful, spacious house is located in a quiet residential area and we would be happy to recommend this house for family stays.

Eventhough I haven't met the owner, Janine, she helped us with email communications before we came, and always kept in touch to check that our stay was as expected.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights stay at Janines.

Perfect for a Canberra visit

  • 4 of 5

I stayed overnight at Janine's place with my research group and we had a relaxing, spacious and enjoyable time.

It's perfectly located for a brief Canberra visit (we had a symposium at the ANU) and then a remote getaway where you can put your feet up, have a BBQ and relax with the chooks.

More than 8 may be a squeeze unless you're just sleeping there, but it's certainly capable of hosting a sizeable number of guests during the warmer months.

Great place for families

  • 4 of 5

We only had an overnight stay at Janine's place but it was terrific. Plenty of space, comfy beds, large kitchen with everything you could need for preparing meals for yourself, close to the local IGA. Even some toys for the kids to play with. Janine was flexible in accommodating our need for an early check in and a later check out, which we greatly appreciated.
