Overview

About the property

Art by the Creek self-contained studio accommodation welcomes you to share our lifestyle.

Separate and private, nestled within a ten acre property fronting onto Kings Hole, Coopers Creek, this loft-style, open plan artist's studio is bright, light and airy with two verandahs to enjoy the ambience within a garden setting.

Although Art by the Creek is set up as a Bed and Breakfast - we supply a breakfast basket upon arrival - this studio/apartment is self-catering with mini-oven/cooktop; stainless steel electric frypan; pots and frypan, with your own bbq on the separate deck, if you wish to stay with us longer and be self-sufficient.

Recently renovated and extremely arty, we have designed this space with you in mind: enjoy a relaxing, time-out and as-natural-as-can-be experience limited only by your own desires.

Rainforest and native trees abound with wildlife including koalas, goannas, echidnas, wallabies, bush turkeys, black cockatoos, platypus, fish in the creek and any number of flittering, twittering and skittering creatures!

You can take a short walk to the creek through ambient, rain-forest gardens and enjoy a swim in a totally private, natural setting: sit on a warm rock or take photos for your own painting experience later on.... all possible without getting in your car! We have it all right here, at your feet.

However, if you do want to get in your car and take a look around this gorgeous area, there is no shortage of places to see. Five minutes down the road is the Domo Japanese Cafe, near the Federal Store, and is open for breakfast and lunch every day with world-class authentic sushi, best burgers and so much more! Note: Doma Cafe is only open during the daytime. Federal Store is open all day, with fine local produce, bottle shop with a good selection of wines etc and other supplies (local and organic produce) to tantalize your tastebuds. Also a Post Office with tourist information, magazines, cards and local maps. Pop-up restaurants at the Federal Hall, or The Smokehouse pop-up on Friday and Saturday nights in the old Pogels Wood restaurant. A new coffee shop has also opened, boasting the best of the best....

There is always something going on in Federal - perhaps time your stay to coincide with the monthly film night? Or live band/fund-raiser. Or dance. Or theatrical event?

Drive fifteen minutes to Bangalow along country roads and discover how many world-class restaurants are waiting to receive and feed you. A few more minutes further down the road and you will be surfing at Wategos Beach or Belongil, or Tallows, or Broken Head......

Rainforest walks/Waterfall walks at Minyon Falls are but a short drive, as are Rocky Creek Dam and a little further again - into the Nightcap Ranges, Terania Creek (Protestor's Falls) and on to Nimbin.

Maybe you want to arrange your stay to coincide with one of the many happenings in our area? Mullum Music Festival (highly recommended, around November); Byron Blues Festival (Easter long weekend); Falls Festival (January); Splendour in the Grass (July), Byron Writers Festival (August), Nimbin Mardi Grass, Boomerang Festival, Byron Surf Festival of Arts, Byron Film Festival, Starlight Festival, Tropical Fruits.... so many festivals, not enough days!

Live theatre (check out NORPA's website for current offerings - be it a dance performance, world music, comedy festivals, cutting edge theatre) within a 30 minute drive to either Lismore or Byron Bay.

Byron Hinterland gives you the quiet relaxation of the rainforest with the opportunity to still enjoy all Byron has to offer (kayaking, diving, ballooning, parachute jumps, hang-gliding and all things in the extreme......)

For a holiday with a difference, come and visit us and see what Art by the Creek has to offer - we love it here and we're sure you will, too......

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. Nestled in the hinterland, you wake up every morning to an amazing kakafony of birds singing. We saw platypuses down at the creek, and just enjoyed being surrounded by nature. The cottage is amazing with everything you need, and the bed is heaven. We were sad to leave and would love to come back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Mira, for taking the time to review! And thank you for leaving the place so tidy, even though you certainly copped the weather. We would love to see you here again and I might even meet you next time - Peter had that pleasure. Glad the platypus were on their best behaviour. Perhaps next time the koalas will be around and not hiding away from the rain, ha ha. Glad you enjoyed your stay and the birds say 'hello', too.....

A Delightful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our 8 night stay. The cottage was so clean and welcoming. Many nights were spent outside on the verandah having a barbecue, playing our music and enjoying the ambience of this delightful place. Peter and Marika gave us the privacy we needed, but when we inquired about the area Peter gave us helpful info and was a delightful and informative host. We so enjoyed our drinks and nibbles with you both before we left, Marika you should write a book, you were funny, have lived an amazing life, and kept us laughing with your stories. I thoroughly recommend this property if you are looking for somewhere peaceful to recuperate, a private place to swim, the creek was delightful, and privacy, this place certainly covers it all. Thanks again Peter and Marika, we had a wonderful time, and you were gracious hosts.

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Even though our stay was rained out, we were still cozy and had loads to do. The property is nestled amongst pretty gardens and fruit trees, with a friendly cat who likes to visit. We saw kangaroos, beautiful birds and even wild platypus, all within the range of the house. Marika and Pete were the perfect hosts, giving us the guided tour then giving us our space for the remainder. When we left, we were offered pancakes and felt like we were leaving a friends house.

There is no internet or phone reception here, which is exactly what we wanted. Peace and quiet.

Thank you for a wonderful stay and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your glowing review! And so pleased that you got to see a few of the native guests! Just looked upwards this morning, under our deck roof, and the pair of 'repeat visitor' speckled (and endangered) frogmouths were nested together on the crossbeams - I know you two are keen photographers, so maybe next time you stay at the studio, they may be in residence again! WE love living here, and are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay, too. Remind me next time and I will make pancakes for you BEFORE you leave….

Bliss just out of Byron!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! We arrived on a weekend of torrential rain, local flooding - and these guys could not have been more accommodating... We were welcomed with a huge loaf of freshly baked bread and the rest flowed on from there... My only disappointment was that we could not stay longer! Waking up to the sounds of the whip bird, the lush gardens and bacon & eggs on the back deck was a highlight! We walked away with some fresh garden cuts and bulbs to plant and the advice "always take a cutting if you like the plant!" I will be back, but for longer next time! Thank you again, the 3 of us had a lovely time catching up at your quiet retreat!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Bree - you left the place immaculate and 'shared the love'. Hope your bulbs grow strong and healthy and we look forward to your return visit. So much to do and see (remarkable, isn't it, so far away and yet so close) you really do need a week to take it all in. Happy days……...
