"A Home Away From Home" SELF CONTAINED UNIT at 70 Inkerman St MARYBOROUGH Vic.

Bristol House is situated close to the city centre, on the corner of Inkerman and Palmerston Streets in the City of Maryborough Victoria Australia. Close to all amenities, being only three blocks from the main street, Post Office and V/Line bus stop, means that Restuarants, Take Away food, Hotels and Gaming venues are within easy access. A bus service has been introduced to Maryborough and timetables are available at our accommodation with a bus stop on our block. A reliable Taxi Service also operates if transport is required to Indoor Heated pool, Gymnasium, Golf Club or other venues.

Farm visits, Gold Detecting, Winery Tours, a week or weekend of activities can be arranged with ourselves or local tour operators and weekend get-away deals are in the planning stages.

MARYBOROUGH is in the Central Goldfields area of the State of Victoria which is on the southern portion of the continent.

SITUATION: Bristol House is only three blocks from the post office and V-Line bus terminal and with a good taxi service guests can easily travel by public transport because clubs and shops are within easy walking distance. Tours of the district can be booked by visiting the local tourist information centre on line at the link provided. So many wineries are well established around the local and broader area that days of tastings tours could quite easily fill a whole very relaxing week. Avoca and the Pyrenees, Ballarat and Bendigo are within easy day trips with plenty to visit along the way.

SELF CONTAINED UNIT at 70 Inkerman Street "A Home Away From Home"

This accommodation consists of a self contained two bedroom unit which is fully equipped and serviced weekly (unless requested otherwise). Everything except food is supplied to make the stay relaxing and enjoyable. In most cases breakfast cereals / farm fresh eggs and other produce like condiments are made available for start-up food supplies with a stocked pantry..

BEDROOMS: Two private bedrooms are lockable so the unit could be used by more than one couple in a family. The main bedroom has a queen double bed along with a childs bed (when ordered), while the second bedroom has three single beds. A fold out couch bed in the living room can also be used as a double bed.

All linen and towels are provided.

BATHROOM: The bathroom has a shower and a bath with the toilet and bathroom both being separate and lockable.

LIVING AREA: The living, kitchen and dining area is one large room with plenty of lounge chairs and couches, a good size dining table and all the modern conveniences to make a stay relaxing enjoyable. A reverse cycle air conditioner and gas wall heating make conditions pleasant. Entertainment is by TV, DVD player with a range of movies, games to play. A safe to store valuables can be used after re-setting your own combination.

KITCHEN: All cutlery and crockery along with cooking utensils, the gas cooktop and electric oven make the unit a home away from home. The fridge and pantry are stocked with some farm grown produce like jams, olives and eggs to give guests a taste of the country. The normal accessories like electric toaster, jug, fridge, microwave, etc are also provided. Just out in the private courtyard a barbeque is also provided. Continental or full cookable breakfast can be provided with continental included in the tarrif.

LAUNDRY: An automatic washing machine makes laundry jobs easy while an iron and ironing board are supplied to finish the job. This along with the kitchen provides a great stop over for travellers to catch up with washing and enjoy a home cooked meal while relaxing in very comfortable surroundings.


PLEASE NOTE! Pets or animals are NOT allowed inside the UNIT.

There is a secure kennel and courtyard at the UNIT where we allow dogs. We cannot allow dogs or cats inside under any circumstances. This is not only dictated by health regulations but as we have guests stay who suffer allergies then an extra cleaning charge will be incurred should guests disregard this requirement. This charge currently stands at $400.00.


Not to be missed: Make sure a trip to the Railway Station and Civic Square are on your agenda for night time viewing.


Bristol House Bungalow self contained accommodation

BRISTOL HOUSE BUNGALOW (Original historic kitchen from 1860's)

The Bungalow at Bristol House is a self contained area consisting of one bedroom with a lounge / kitchenette area to which is attached an ensuite with shower, toilet and handbasin. Heating and cooling is effected by a split system air conditioner. The kitchenette is equipped with Fridge, Microwave, Toaster, Tea & coffee making facilities. A small table ,TV and DVD player with some DVD's provided and a couch which also doubles as another fold out bed makes this accommodation comfortable and relaxing. A barbeque and fully equipped kitchen can be made available. Seperate laundry also available - iron provided.

Bristol House B&B shared accommodation

BRISTOL HOUSE B&B (Historic 1860's building)

This old but comfortable historic accommodation was established during the days of gold back in the early 1860's originally as a hotel, all room now have split system air conditioners and carpets.

Lovingly renovated upstairs accommodation consists of two separate bedrooms across the hallway from the lounge / kitchenette to which is attached an ensuite with shower, toilet and handbasin. The kitchenette and lounge is equipped with Gas Log heater, Fridge, Microwave, Toaster and Tea & Coffee making facilities along with two lounges, TV and DVD player with DVD's

Blue Room has a queen size double bed and a king size single bed, Split system air conditioning, Table and chairs.

Yellow Room has twin single beds, Split system air conditioning, Table and chairs.

Barbeque, downstairs kitchen and laundry are available by arrangement, iron and board provided.

About Ken CALDER

Grew up on family farm selected by Great Grandfather in 1850s I was schooled at Dunolly and Maryborough before going home to that land in 1961. Being called up for National Service meant that some of this land had to be sold for my parents and younger siblings to survive so that on discharge I had to seek another avenue in life. Being one of the first students through Glenormiston provided me with management skills that enabled Helen and myself to self establish ourselves in agriculture (a virtually impossible task because of the amount of money required for land, machinery and livestock to be viable). This we managed without any family help.

Ken CALDER purchased this house in 1999

Why Ken CALDER chose Maryborough

We purchased the main building as a retirement plan and the UNIT some years later after the lady living there moved into a retirement home.

The ten year drought virtually took away our retirement and any succession plans we had and, because we have been thrifty all our lives the Government decided we were not ewntitled to any pension assistance.

Situated central to Ballarat, Bendigo, Pyrenees wine region, Grampians, Melville’s caves at Rheola, with many smaller towns of the Gold Mining era with historic significance in the area. Fishing at Laanecoorie, Cairn Curran or Tullaroop (no boating) are within easy driving distance. This self contained UNIT provides a "Home Away from Home" base to explore and relax. With full cooking facilities and four supoernarkets in town then you do not have to eat out every night. However if that is your preference then Maryborough region has many excellent venues for delightful meals; many within walking distance from the UNIT.
