The Bootmakers Cottage

Bedrooms 2
Property type hotel
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This unique 1858 fieldstone cottage, was built by some of the first settlers in the Barossa Valley. Lovingly restored by local Barossa craftsmen, the owners have maintained original features, such as ceilings made of pug and hand sawn native gum beams. Relax and enjoy the tranquility of the romantic rural cottage set in the patchwork of vineyards and farmers' fields. The cottage is situated not far from the towns of Angaston and Moculta.

Wander the paths of the heritage garden surrounding the Bootmakers Cottage and original Bootmaker's Shop. In winter, cuddle up next to a cozy open fire with a glass of wine. Enjoy walks to historic buildings such as the Gruenberg (Green Hill) Church, next to the cottage, and Gnadenberg (Hill of Grace) Church adjacent to the famous Hill of Grace Vineyard. Sleep in, read books, play games and/or watch a selection of movies. Discover secrets of lost Barossa villages. Enjoy provisions for a farmers breakfast and local treats with a selection of regional produce sourced from the Barossa and South Australia.

Explore the nearby historic towns of Angaston and Moculta. Angaston has a selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and a farmers market on Saturday mornings. Sample varietal wines from local wineries owned by Barossa families for generations.

The cottage has two bedrooms. The Bohemian Romance Room has a King Size bed with a TV and DVD player, a restored 1930's lounge, split cycle air conditioner, jarrah floors and is adjacent to the bathroom. The Honeymoon room (Die Grune Hochzeit) features a Queen Size iron bed with original items from the weddings of Barossa folk. The lounge has an open fireplace and a place to read and relax. The kitchen has modern facilities including cooktop, oven, dishwasher and coffee machine and the kitchen cupboards feature as recycled floor boards from a local barn.

The bathroom has a large shower and features a restored Barossa Homestead cast iron bath. All the water to the house is rainwater. In winter the house is warmed with under floor heating.

Native Australian birdlife is abundant in the cottage garden. Enjoy produce from fruit trees and the vegetable patch. Farm fresh eggs are supplied from our happy hens when laying. The Ram Paddock is adjacent to the Cottage grounds, and at times of the year, is home to Stud Merino Rams.

The cottage is owned and operated by a local Barossa Family. The aim is to provide a reflection into the past and to experience our Barossa cultural heritage including produce, atmosphere, artefacts, knowledge and hospitality.

The Bootmakers Cottage is an ideal place for couples looking for a private, relaxing and romantic getaway. It is a great place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or special occasion. It is also suitable for two couples travelling together.

So relax, enjoy and rejuvenate!
