Moreton Island and Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort

Moreton Island is the 3rd largest sand island in the world and it is well worth exploring this unique and beautiful island by 4WD. Visit the Blue Lagoon, Champagne Pools, and Honeymoon Bay for a swim, the Desert for sand boarding and Cape Moreton to watch the turtles, dolphins and giant rays feeding in the shallows under the Cape and the whales passing by on their annual migration north in winter.

Take your own picnic or drop into the infamous "Gutter Bar" (for drinkermen with a fishing problem!) for some fresh Moreton Bay oysters followed by a burger and a beer before heading off to find the Thong Tree. Micat has a great little shop at Bulwer which serves delicious meals. Don't miss the climb (medium grade) up Mt Tempest on a good day for unbelievable 360 degree views.

Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort and all its facilities and activities are available for our guests such as pools, cafes, bars, water sports and quad bikes just to name a few. They also organise island tours, whale watching, snorkelling at the Wrecks, eco tours and of course the famous dolphin feeding (available only on request and availability but guests can listen to the commentary and watch the feeding from the jetty just a few meters away and absolutely free).

Getting Here

Being an island the only way to get here is by boat which takes just over an hour.

Tangalooma passenger jets run from Pinkenba to Moreton Island several times a day and you can book through the resort website. Once you arrive at the Resort a taxi takes you and your luggage to the house only a few minutes away.

Being a sand island with sand tracks instead of bitumen, the only way round is by 4WD. The MICAT is the only vehicle ferry that goes to Moreton and so it is important to book early in peak times. It departs from the Port of Brisbane at Lytton and drops you off at the Tangalooma Wrecks and then it is a 15 minute scenic drive through the middle of the island to get to the house. Visit the Micat website for more info.

About Marianne Seymour

I grew up in Brisbane and love fishing, swimming and sitting on the deck with a cold drink! A true Queenslander.

Marianne Seymour purchased this house in 2005

Why Marianne Seymour chose Moreton Island

My father was instrumental in changing the old Tangalooma Whaling Station into a tourist resort on the early sixties. My family spent

most of our holidays at Moreton Island or on a boat in Moreton Bay. We fished and snorkeled at the Wrecks, climbed the Sandhills and generally had a fantastic time.

It was amazing to find myself with our own house at Moreton and see our own kids spend time there.

Best house on Tangalooma Hill

  • 5 of 5

What a great lifestyle holiday house. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pots, pans, crokery, wine glasses, stubby holders etc.etc. etc. 4 comfy Bedrooms, 3 Toilets, 2 Bathrooms, HUUUGE Verandah/Lounge/Living/Kitchen area the photos do not do it justice. The views & sunsets are exceptional, use of a golf buggy to get to the resort is fantastic - register your stay with the resort to use their facilities - a must! We had a fantastic week of self catering and we are coming back!!
