About the property

Historic cottage with modern comfort near restaurants, pubs, & free transport

On a free tourist bus route, you have found a pet friendly 1860s miner's cottage complete with period style furnishings and modern comforts ideally suited to 1 or 2 guests. Located in cosmopolitan North Adelaide TLC boasts a location few can match: A stone's throw from Melbourne Street, you will be near to award winning pubs, restaurants of many cuisines and skilled baristers in coffee shops open from breakfast time until late.

Although there are many eateries around the corner, in the kitchen you will find a starter selection of breakfast items.

While you will be walking distance from the Adelaide CBD, the Wallis Piccadily Movie Theatre, WOMAD, Fringe Events, the famous Adelaide Oval, and the picturesque Botanic Gardens and parklands, there is also a FREE Council bus which passes regularly by your front door. This is perfect for a shopping trip to Rundle Mall where you will find major department stores, souvenir shops, and more; but the bus also stops at Adelaide Central Market, a self-confessed thriving hub of food and culture for over 148 years.

In your private vine-covered courtyard, you can enjoy refreshments, or simply read one of our books or magazines. Inside, our modern amenities include reverse cycle airconditioner, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and drier.

While prices vary according to length of stay, or period of booking standard Rates are:

from $155 per night for stays of 7 nights or more, and

from $175 per night for stays of 5-6 nights

(for shorter stays - please discuss cost and availability with Karen.)

Discounted rates also apply for long term stays, and surcharges apply during Public Holidays and Adelaide special events.

We certainly are pet friendly and North Adelaide is a wonderful place for dogs and their 2-legged-compantions to enjoy a leisurely walk, or a play at the dog park. At the owner's discretion a $50 cleaning fee is charged per pet per stay.

Cancellation fees apply - please check with owner

About Karen Lindqvist

I live with my husband of 25 years and 4 boys. I have worked/studied in North Adelaide for 30 years, where I also completed my PhD in physiotherapy in 1995. Born in Papua New Guinea, raised for a time in England, I spent teenage years in Japan and Denver, Colorado. Now with 4 growing boys, our holidays involve camping in the Outback with mountain bikes. Even in the last 3 months I have enjoyed learning archery in the park-lands just around the corner from the cottage, finally learning to swim at a nearby gymnasium, and ice-skating only a little further away. I enjoy The Lion Cottage as a great (local) way to meet new and interesting people who come our way. Stay at our cottage, and I expect you'll meet at least one of our 4 boys helping you with an errand. Let us share it with you.

Karen Lindqvist purchased this bed and breakfast in 2013

Why Karen Lindqvist chose North Adelaide

As a local, when The Lion Cottage came on the market I simply knew the location couldn't be better. Proximity to award winning restaurants and pubs, a selection of coffee shops, the universities and hospitals, The Adelaide Oval, Adelaide city centre ... honestly, I could go on and on. I wanted it for my family's future. It's so lovely to share such a wonderful property that I chose to buy because I couldn't resist it.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

I have seen other properties in other parts of Adelaide and North Adelaide and haven't considered buying them; simply because the package deal is "not as perfect as The Lion Cottage". The property, the location, the ambiance. Sure, the bed has Sheridan sheets, and I provide quality coffee and tea with breakfast to get you started, but I expect you'll more often be out an about having difficulty which restaurant or coffee shop to sample next.

Gorgeous little cottage!!

I absolutely LOVED my time here! The cottage was gorgeous and the first thing I did was open the doors from the bathroom to the courtyard and run a bubble bath! Just amazing! 😍😍

A wondeful comfort cottage

  • 5 of 5

On opening the front door I felt at home, every thing was clean and utilities were modern all I needed was to buy food for my ten day stay. Location was just perfect to ride north to the Adelaide Hills or to ride up the coast using the bike track to the beach. The free bus which stopped almost at the front door was just perfect for the trip into the CBD. Shops and restaurants were just a block away. I am looking forward to next years TDU and to stay again in this wonderful cottage.

Owner's Response: Hey Richard - Folk like you are a pleasure to host. Communication with you was easy, and you treated the cottage so beautifully; particularly over an extended, busy visit. I could not have hoped for a more considerate guest. I sincerely look forward to hosting you again in 2019. Travel safely always (especially when on 2 wheels!). Karen.

Just Lovely

  • 5 of 5

Nine night stay Xmas 2017. A lovely home that was extremely well presented and clean. Location could not be better. The home is very comfortable and is close to everything with a free bus to the CBD outside. You don't need the bus though as it is a short walk to the CBD. The location is also very quiet. It is also lovely to hear the Lions at the Adelaide Zoo that is across the parklands. ( not intrusive) We do stay at a lot of places when travelling and this is one of the best if not overall the best all-round property taking into account value, presentation, location etc etc, The owners should give themselves a pat on the back. I give it the full 5 stars it is a fantastic place to stay with the added bonus of being pet friendly. You don't need to bring a thing. Thanks Karen.

What a lovely home. Crisp clean sheets, comfortable bed with fluffy pillows! The claw foot bath was a bonus especially looking out to the courtyard while enjoying a bath. Definitely will stay here again!

Owner's Response: It was my pleasure to host all 3 of you. And I'm glad you appreciated the courtyard; it has just had a spring make-over, so come back in time and you'll see my vision growing. Stay safe. Karen

Quaint and completely cosy!

  • 5 of 5

This quaint cottage was as comfortable as Grandma's featherbed and just as inviting. Perfectly located close to Melbourne Street dining precinct, and everything you need is thoughtfully provided. Karen thinks of everything!

Owner's Response: Thanks Vicki, Yes, it does feel like you're visiting Grandma's house from the moment you arrive. And you can see the reason why I've chosen to live in the district. Location, location, location. Happy Travels to you always.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful historic cottage with all the necessities when away from your own home including a lovely little courtyard out the back. Location fabulous for humans and dogs. Great park very close for exercising dogs and people! Wonderful coffee and breakfast restaurants just two minute walk and lots of choice in evening restaurants close by. Wonderful for a five night stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks Sam, We've been locals for nearly 20 years, and for a while could say we had eaten at all the restaurants on Melbourne Street. Waist-lines are not so forgiving now, so I'm glad I could share some of the culinary delights with you. Hope to see you again sometime.
