Photos and Description of this Capitol Hill holiday house

3 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath with optional studio apt. with king bed.

This newly renovated 3 bedroom with each having its own bathroom Row House is located in the Capitol Hill Historic District within walking distance to all the DC sights such as US Capitol, US Senate, Washington Monuments, The White House, Union Station, Judicial Building and downtown DC. This house was completely renovated 3 years ago.

It is located in the safest neighborhood of Washington DC, Capitol Hill - Historic District. There are numerous grocery stores, restaurants and high end shopping areas within walking distance.

Capitol Hill Historic District takes its name from the hill, which rises in the center of the Federal City and extends eastward. Stretching easterly behind the Capitol Building along wide avenues lies the residential area known as Capitol Hill.

History of Capital Hill: Capitol Hill, one of the oldest residential communities in Washington, has grown from a small boarding house community for members of Congress to an area of more than 150 squares embracing a number of separate neighborhoods. In the early years of the Republic few Congressmen wished to establish permanent residence in the city. Instead, most preferred to live in boarding houses within walking distance of the Capitol. Nothing remains of this community, and the area closest to the Capitol contains the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the House and Senate Office buildings. Capitol Hill is the largest residential historic district in the District of Columbia. Almost every street is composed of row houses of different stylistic varieties and periods forming a continuous wall broken only by street intersections.

The Area: Side by side exist early 19th century manor houses, Federal townhouses, small frame dwellings, ornate Italianate bracketed houses and the late 19th century press brick row houses with their often whimsical decorative elements combining Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Eastlakian motifs. Within the Historic District, you will find the most luxurious accommodation in the one of the best areas in Washington DC with many restaurants, cafes and places to shop, including the Eastern Market, the city's largest farmers' market and flea market.

If available we can provide parking for 1 vehicle at Union Station which is 3 blocks from this rental. It is available on a first come basis.

Excellent location and great home

  • 5 of 5

This home is well situated near Union station, the circulator bus (takes you around the museums and monuments for $1 per trip), a supermarket and many lovely restaurants-Romeo and Juliet and the French one were excellent. The location is a very important feature when you want to spend a short amount of time getting to the major attractions.

The home is well appointed with everything you would need for your stay and Bob is a great owner, providing excellent customer service and gives many good suggestions on what to do during your stay. They had the basics in the kitchen to get you started including spices, and they provided dishwashing and laundry liquid.

Beds were comfortable and the lounge room a good size for 6 adults to socialise. The only negative would be the very large chairs around the kitchen table which took up a lot of space.

Would definitely recommend to stay here for a trip to Washington to see the museums and monuments. There are stairs up to all the bedrooms which was fine for us but may be a problem for some travellers.

Perfect vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location for our DC vacation! We traveled with two other couples and this home met all of our needs. We all had comfortable bedrooms with our own bathrooms. The living room was very comfortable and the kitchen held many amenities to meet our daily needs. This home is across the street from a beautiful historic Catholic Church in a quiet tree lined neighborhood. Just a block away there is a grocery store and several quaint restaurants. We used Uber to go to Georgetown (great shopping and dining opportunities), and to many other sights in the area. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Property!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was a perfect place for three couples. Each bedroom has a private bath. It was clean. There are many levels so if stairs are an issue, this is not the rental for you. The Capitol Market around the corner had everything we needed as we did not really cook. We walked to two very close restaurants. At Romeo and Juliet, the food was excellent and the service was very good. At Café Berlin, the food was excellent but the service was not. We think they were very under staffed the night we were there...would give it another chance. We had very good luck using Uber. We were going to use the Big Bus Tour but their service was limited because of roads being closed. That also made it difficult to get to the monuments, etc. As we had seen many of the great sights in DC before and were really there to visit with each other, it wasn't that big of an issue. We did go to the Holocaust Museum, Air and Space and WWII Memorial. All are very worthwhile. It was a wonderful weekend.

Great location for access to the Capitol and the entire Mall.

This townhouse is on a residential street just a block from a Senate office building and three blocks from Union Station. Each of the three bedrooms has its own full bath and we slept five adults (all brothers) very comfortably. We also ate dinner 'at home' each of the three nights we were in DC - both to save money and to eat what we wanted at our own pace. The enclosed backyard includes a gas grill which we used to grill chicken and vegetables. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for cooking meals - though we could have used a mixing/serving bowl and one or two other items. The owner is very accommodating and even arranged to have a pillow I left behind mailed to me! You can't beat that.

The living room space is more than enough for 5 or six adults, with a flat screen TV and a big coffee table for snacks and drinks. We enjoyed sitting in the living room when we returned from our daytime touring but we inevitably gravitated to the kitchen when dinner was being prepared. One small change I would suggest is to replace the large living room-style chairs in the kitchen with smaller, dining room chairs. That would just create more space in the kitchen and allow more room around the table.

The townhouse was very clean when we arrived and we tried to leave it relatively clean when we left. The owner provided us with a free parking pass at Union Station for one car, and we parked the second car there as well - for $24 a day. However, you are allowed to park on the street on the weekends, so we moved the cars from Union Station to C Street on Saturday morning. We were able to park them both right in front of the townhouse.

We found a very decent grocery store right around the corner, from which we purchased everything from sandwiches to a case of water and some dark chocolate. There are several restaurants within a very short walk of the townhouse, two of which seemed to be popular local spots. But as I said, we ate dinner at home. One of my brothers went out jogging one morning and he said the surrounding neighborhoods (going away from the Capitol) were all very attractive. All told, this is a great location and my brothers and I would come back if we again visit DC.

Location, location, location

VERY convenient location. Clean property, mostly well-equipped. I was very impressed on the amount of information Mr Finn sent us ahead of time concerning logistics, things to do, getting around DC, etc. I haven't received that from any other VRBO I've stayed at. The power went out momentarily (we weren't at the property at the time), and he immediately sent us a note on how to handle it. Also greatly appreciated the wifi.

Cons - need some plastic glasses for the bathrooms, also just regular glasses (not goblets). The couples who stayed in the king and queen bedrooms said the mattresses were very soft (king bed actually sagged). Twin beds were nicely firm, but hated the window air conditioner blowing right in my face.

We don't plan on returning to DC in the near future, but if we did, we would stay here again, if they replaced the mattresses.

A general word about the people of DC. For a big city, they are some of the most pleasant, courteous, and genuinely helpful people I've encountered. A number of times we were puzzling over the map (metro or city), and were approached by someone asking if they could help us. Sure made our stay smoother. A special shoutout to the metro, bus, and circulator personnel. They were top notch.

Owner's Response: I would like to thank this reviewer for sharing their thoughts with us. With regard to the beds I would like to point out that it is very hard to anticipate everyones preference for hard or softness. The beds were put in new 1 1/2 years ago. I guess this is why bed retailers always want you to lay down on their beds before they buy them. Our tenants have different preferences and we try our best to please. We take your comments seriously and are always trying to improve.

Perfect Location, House exactly as described! Was everything we needed for our DC vacation.

  • 5 of 5

A bathroom for every bedroom plus an extra main floor. Kitchen was well stocked with necessities. House was clean and neat. All in all a perfect vacation spot.

The younger ones noted that the Internet was extremely fast. I would recommend this property to anyone that asked.
