Coalface Bed & Breakfast- Tranquil, Views, Gardens

Bedrooms 1
Space 50 m²
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Relax in privacy and comfort 7 secluded acres minutes from the beach.

Coalface B&B is brand new and purpose-built. It is tucked away on the Illawarra escarpment behind the patrolled beach of Coledale and the dog friendly (off-leash) Sharky's beach, (named after a man, not a fish).

What makes Coalface B & B so special is that you are just minutes away from a wide choice of surfing beaches, ocean rock pools, bush-walks, good coffee and food. When you are here you could be a million miles away, with none of the inconvenience of distance.

On the property itself, there are 7 acres of land for the adventurous to explore. The vegetation ranges from Eucalyptus to Rain-forest, with iconic Red Cedars, Sandpaper Figs and towering Turpentines. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of Lyre Birds, Wallabies and a vast amount of bird life, from tiny Blue Wrens to the matronly Wonga Pigeon as it waddles around foraging on the forest floor before reluctantly getting airborne.

Coalface B & B is brand-new and has been purpose-built for luxury accommodation. This means that convenience and comfort is built-in with parking right at the door, a private outdoor terrace separated from the family home by a brick courtyard wall, a hot &cold outdoor shower, solely for guest use, a large indoor bath with views, a kitchenette and a separate entrance. You have a large orchard to wander and relax in and at night you can settle round the sandstone fireplace and enjoy an open fire under the stars.

Coalface B & B is an open plan studio style accommodation with a kitchenette and a private bathroom. The large bath comfortably overlooks the orchard and ocean views -lovely at dusk as the sky turns pink.... There is a large stacker sliding door opening from your room onto a sandstone terrace separated from the family home and garden by a brick courtyard wall.

When at Coalface, you are provided a breakfast hamper of cereals, toast with a variety of condiments, eggs and 'pod' coffee or tea that you cook at your leisure. One of our favourite things to do is a refreshing morning swim and a late cooked breakfast over Sunday

Value, comfort, indoor and outdoor room to relax.... does this sound like what you're after?

There are wonderful walking tracks nearby, with the Royal National Park and the Wodi Wodi track to the north and Gibson's and Sublime Point tracks to the south. A 30km coastal cycling track is also nearby.

Coalface B & B is situated on the site of the historic No. 2 Bulli Coal Mine which opened in the 1890's.

Coledale is just over the Seacliff Bridge nestled between the magnificent Illawarra escarpment and a string of glorious sandy beaches. Coledale has a lovely new general store / newsagent, and an R.S.L. providing lunches and dinners Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun. There is a popular restaurant, as well as 2 cafes and a fine wine shop.

Give your dog some 'holiday time' as well at the leash-free local Sharky's beach. (Pets by arrangement on booking Note; this property is not fenced).

Enjoy a beach-side BBQ at Coledale Beach, patrolled 7 days in the summer, with free BBQ's under the stately Norfolk Pines. Coledale hosts a vibrant monthly market (4th Sunday each month). Great food and crafts to be found.

Surfers will be glad to know we are a stone's throw from Tommo's, Sharkys and the Boiler room. Not much further to Peggy's, McCauleys and Sandon Point.

There is great snorkelling to be had around the rocky headlands and bays. For a small fee some gear is available.

My SYDNEY escape

  • 5 of 5

I have been here 3 times now I think. It’s just such a peaceful place. I love sitting in the garden and looking through trees to the sea. I LOVE the big bath with big window looking out to the garden. Sooo relaxing. All the beaches nearby are gorgeous and some not very busy at all. Plenty of walks to do and cute little shops in surrounding areas. I’m always made to feel so welcome. It’s my quick escape from Sydney. It’s the best place I’ve found in the area for the price AND with a bath!

Excellent location at a reasonable price

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time here, staying there for the weekend. The location is great as it is secluded away but only 5 minutes to get back into the main part of town. The property is spacious enough plus plenty of places to walk. The road this property is on, has a steep (20%) gradient for about 500m so be prepared for a good walk back or drive if you prefer. You don't run into anyone around the property.

There are sea views from the bedroom. The place itself is spacious with an open living plan including a kitchen, bedroom and lounge room all connected. Enough space for the 3 of us.

A decent size TV with a kitchenette that was good enough for us to cook and eat-in the entire time we were there. It includes a microwave, electric frypan, toaster, bar fridge with small freezer compartment, juicer, cutlery and I think a coffee machine. Plus all you need to wash up etc. The bathroom looks recently renovated, with a modern look and feel. The shower is large with a strong water flow. There is also a large bath. The bathroom is excellent and would be the strong point of the place.

Coledale has some places to eat and then there is Thirroul, only 5km away with a Coles, fruit and veg shop and more places to eat. The Coledale train station really is only 500m away (but with a steep walk down, as mentioned). There are beaches everywhere.

The only negatives would be the outdoor shower is not private; anyone from the road can see you and the electric frypan wasn't the cleanest.

Great tasting oranges grown on the property!
