Overview

About the property

FAMILIES WELCOME AND OVER 30'S ADULT GROUPS (Strictly no Schoolies or Toolies)

This original Straddie Beach House built in 1958 boasts breathtaking views to Cylinder Beach and beyond. Extensions to the existing house and the appointment of the Tower and The Wash House in 1986 were done by famed architect Brit Andresen.

The views from the Whale Watching Tower extend to Moreton Island and the Sunshine Coast on a clear day. Situated within 100 metres of the famous Straddie Beach Hotel and the patrolled Cylinder Beach, the house captures beautiful breezes and the true essence of a "Straddie Beach Holiday."

The original main house features one large room with the kitchen, dining, lounge and bunk beds for five people. There is a bathroom with a shower, small bath and toilet.

The Whale Watching Tower boasts a bedroom on the ground level and a second bedroom on the middle level, both with queen sized beds and amazing views through the trees and towards the coast. The top level is a viewing deck, perfect for watching the whale migration, checking out the surf at Cylinder Beach, and watching the sunrise and sunset. The tower is connected to the main house by a deck with a comfortable large dining table and chairs for entertaining and relaxing. At the end of the deck is a fish gutting station and BBQ, perfect for prepping and cooking your daily catches!

There is a Wash House to the rear of the house with an outdoor shower, sink, washing machine and changing area.

The house and tower feature wooden floors throughout with comfortable furniture. There is a stereo (with USB connection), TV and DVD player.

The kitchen has an electric stove and oven, microwave, bread machine, coffee and tea plungers.

Parking is available off the driveway for up to three cars in front of the house.

The house is within 100 metres of the patrolled Cylinder Beach and The Straddie Beach Hotel. To the north and south of Cylinder Beach are dog friendly beaches within five minutes walking distance of the house. There is a grocery store, post office and takeaway food shop around the corner from the house. If you continue walking up Mooloomba Road for fifteen minutes you will reach The Point where there is a fantastic Gorge Walk where you may see turtles, dolphins, whales, mantarays as well as kangaroos and wallabies. This area also provides cafes, the surf club, a bakery and a superb homemade gelato and coffee shop. In the opposite direction from the pub there is a Bowls Club, Skate Park, Dive Shop providing snorkeling and scuba diving, a petrol station and some restaurants.

There are bus stops at the end of the driveway opposite the Cylinder Beach entrance and outside The Hotel. The bus commences at Dunwich and continues through to the Surf Club and back again.

The architect designed this house without young children in mind! The verandahs around the house and the Wash House do not have railings and there are steps leading up to the house from the carpark as well as the Whale Watching Tower. This house is not appropriate for very young children and we advise that care be taken at all times. The use of this house is at your own risk. If you wish to keep children off the top of the tower when you are not with them the gate has a padlock which can be used.

We hope that you enjoy your stay in our "Cylinder Beach House". Please let us know of any feedback as we would love for your future stays to be even more perfect in this unique island paradise!

Very average house

  • 1 of 5

Couldn’t sleep in the bedrooms as they smelt like mound and had water leaking in.

In the main house there was a waterfall from the roof behind the TV down the wall.

No basics provided at all and no linen service offered.

Nil yard maintenance.

I stay in many beach houses throughout the year around the country and this one was the worst I have come across.

Incredible Location

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but agreed that the place is in need of touch ups. There were nails sticking up in the whale tower, the balconies had splinters, there was chips in the outdoor roofing, everything needs new painting... etc.

The property has a lot of potential and we thoroughly enjoyed the whale watching tower but just seems run down.

Amazing beach house!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with a group of 8 people over four days in late February and could not be more impressed with the house, it's location to the beach and the amazing views from the tower. For the location, price and bed configuration you can't go past the Cylinder Beach House with a group of mates or an extended family. Thanks again Will and we'll definitely be back!

Amazing Outlook

Highly recommend a stay at Cylinder House for any visitors to the beautiful North Straddie. Right across the road from Cylinder Beach, 100m to the pub, amazing opening plan indoor / outdoor living, views to die for, and soothing sea breezes.

We enjoyed our stay at Cylinder Beach. It was close to everything and the view from the tower was absolutely beautiful! We would definitely stay here again.
