Overview

About the property

Koorakai is an Aboriginal word meaning "gum tree."

Come and relax in this spacious three bedroom house brimming with unique character overlooking a beautiful bushland valley.

The interior has a rustic elegance made possible by using as many materials from our local natural environment as possible. Koorakai house has been sustainably crafted from basalt rocks removed from the hill into which it is built and from hundred year old recycled sand stock bricks. Its adobe floors are made from local granite soil; mosaics are designed from themes inspired by the Abercrombie river which borders the property; and the slate used in the bathroom is hand-hewn from the local quarry.

The main living area is a generous space, perfect for a family group of up to ten people. The open plan design has a large open fireplace made from local basalt stone as its central focal point, and is the perfect way to bring people together. The king-sized master bedroom is large and spacious, with room enough for a sofa and a baby cot, and direct access to the verandah and spectacular views of the valley and bush beyond.

The second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, while the third bedroom has bunk beds that can sleep four kids or two more adults.

Relax in a bath in front of a picture window with amazing views. Enjoy the feeling of showering in a river rock setting, surrounded by mosaics made from pebbles sourced from the local Abercrombie riverbed.

The house has a large wraparound verandah which has such depth that a completely extra living space and dining area has been created. Enjoy spectacular sunsets while dining on the verandah, or relax on verandah sofas while watching birds and wildlife drink at the dam in the gully. If you are feeling more energetic, our 2500 acre property features four well-marked bush walks, totalling 15 kilometres.

The closest town, Taralga, known for its historical heritage stone buildings and traditional wooden slab huts, lies about 25kms south of the farm, a scenic country drive of 15-20 minutes, and has a couple of pubs, a small takeaway store, a lovely General Store, Post Office, Gift Shop, a Heritage Museum that can be viewed by appointment, and many other little surprises.

The farm has patchy Telstra Mobile reception, however for those of you who may suffer from techno-withdrawkl, a phone and WiFi is available, at any time, up at the main farmhouse at the Tin Shed Art Gallery.

We look forward to seeing you at Koorakai.
