Very disappointed

  • 2 of 5

I booked this 'luxury' retreat for my family over from UK to celebrate my 30th birthday.

Whilst it was a good house it did not have the touch of luxury we were all looking forward to.

Simple things like no complementary soaps or toiletries of any sort... no cleaning products to clean the house and no cleaner for the week...

With 3 small children this wasn't ideal.

I had also booked an extra 4 people for the weekend...which the owner was very aware of and had charged for prior to our arrival. I had to chase up the manager to get linen for them as she didn't know anything about them. After their departure the manager declined to take ALL the extra linen away for us instead instructing us to leave it in the car port.... this took us space...and looked unsightly.

There was a dishwasher with 6 tablets to last a week...... 10 adults and 3 kids plus the extra 4..... we had to provide our own as well as washing up liquid which wasn't provided either.

The '3rd' bathroom consists of a shower and bath outside.... whilst the shower was lovely the bath had NO privacy AT ALL from the balcony...

There are only 2 toilets for the house.

Lastly the smoke alarms were continously activated at 3 am for no reason at all.... I imagine faulty... this woke EVERYONE in the house for 2 nights in a row.... no response from manager when I contacted her.

All in all a good property for a large group but significantly overpriced with nothing to make it feel special. I was so disappointed....

Owner's Response: Firstly thank you for your comments, we take very seriously any comment made by guests and work to ensure that we do better, and improve our product and delivery. We have made significant changes to ensure this happens and we deliver a consistent 5 star experience. Since we started Wanggulay 2, we have had all 5-star reviews. We would like to show you and any future prospective guests the changes we have made to ensure we keep our product to that five-star standard. The week you visited, our property was poorly prepared for your arrival by a part-time team member. We have worked with the team and this part time member to ensure that a first class product is always presented. During each stay we now make two courtesy followup calls to ensure everything is as expected and so any problems can be quickly solved. Our standard pack that was not provided to you incorporates shampoos and conditioner full kitchen supplies, complimentary bubbly, flowers, fruit, and travel guide. We were unaware that this was not in place for your stay. The procedures above will now resolve this within hours if the problem were ever to occur again. To make sure we exceed guests expectations we now offer a complimentary shopping service so that that Wanggulay is fully stocked for guests arrival so their holiday can start with a walk to the first waterfall 10 minutes away rather than a visit to the supermarket. We also now make a follow-up call after arrival and the following day to immediately check that we have provided a 5-star standard product and to quickly address any concerns or provide any help. . Additional guests rooms are fully prepared upon arrival; we provide an extra clean for bookings of more than 5 days, and additional cleaning services are available on demand for house guest looking for a more hotel-style daily turn around. The smoke alarm company had been changed, and all smoke alarms are now checked monthly to ensure no unnecessary disruption during the guest stay. The white claw footed bath tub under the rainforest treetops is screened from neighbours and to keep the outdoor feeling with views over the river and intro the treetops it is visible to the in-house residents at Wanggulay Too. This is a decision we made in keeping with the outdoor style with amazing views, which won us an award for best luxury outdoor experience beating 6300 others for the category award. We would like to invite you back for a complimentary three night stay when you are next in Cairns.

Dream Wedding & Honeymoon destination in 1!

  • 5 of 5

To Brett, Bet and the team at Wanggulay, I can't thank you enough for letting us hire both of your beautiful rainforest retreats for our wedding at Easter. My new husband and 20 of our closest family and friends had the most magical weekend away together celebrating (and then recovering by the pool). Stoney creek falls just down the road made for a magical place for us to have our ceremony, and the beautiful top deck at Wanggulay bali was the perfect spot for our reception. Thank you so much for everything, we can't wait to come back and celebrate wedding anniversaries! Hollie and Rick Wilkinson <3

Rainforest Bliss

  • 5 of 5

Recently I rented Wanggulay Too for my family who were visiting me in Cairns for my Birthday. As a Cairns local it was an excellent choice as the property showcases the best of living in the wet tropics. It was cool and we definitely utilised the outdoor bath. So beautiful was it laying in an outdoor bath looking up at the trees above you, there was a que up for the bath as some people in our family decided that with a good book you could spend two hours in the tub! Communication from the owners was fantastic and the tips for people new to the area are great. Highly recommended if you want to immerse yourself in the rainforest.

Treetop retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and comfortable. It is in a very convenient location, only 25 mins. from Cairns, yet still far enough removed from the bustle. (A quiet night sleep assured.)The rear deck was a great place to unwind after a day's activities.
