About this property

Idyllic Farm Cottage with Outdoor Bath Under the Stars

Outdoor bath with hot running water, fresh air and a view. Lie back listen to the birds settle down for the night, watch the stars come out - and all from the bath! A truly unique and glorious experience.

Idyllic hideaway cottage on the boundary between the native forest and the farm just over half an hour from Orange. Outdoor bath with hot water, fresh air and a view. 3 bedrooms to suit up to 6 people. Fully equipped kitchen. New indoor bathroom. Comfortable living area with wood fire and magnificent view. Bush garden with bonfire area and views across the rolling hills to Mount Canobolas. Explore the forest, walk in the paddocks, or along the creek, see the birds, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, eagles, wombats, and maybe an echidna or a platypus. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

10 minutes to Cudal or Manildra. 30 minutes to vineyards, restaurants, Canowindra, Molong or 40 minutes to Orange.
Dirt road access - both public road and on-farm track, conditions vary on both. 4WD is not required but at least average clearance is necessary.

We cannot take pets.

Sunny house with
1 new Queen bed in master bedroom
1 new Double bed in second bedroom
2 new King singles in third bedroom - can be converted to King Double
All with built in cupboards and plenty of space.

Slow combustion heater.
Can have bonfire in yard between 1st April and 1st October - as long as it is not too dry.

Free to air TV
Good mobile reception - although you can pretend there is none.
Lots of books, boardgames and puzzles.

Kitchen stocked with basics as well as some local goodies and a little produce from the farm vegie garden.

Beautiful walks across the paddocks or through the bush right at your door.
Space for the kids to run around, ride their bikes or just potter about in the yard or the paddock. You can watch from the recliners on the verandah with a coffee or a glass of wine.

Wineries close by and all the other attractions of Cabonne and Orange districts.

Handy location for Orange Food and Wine Festivals, Orange Winter Festival Canowindra Balloon Festival and National Field Day at Borenore.

There are 3 golf courses in Orange, plus courses in other surrounding towns - Canowindra, Molong, Forbes, Parkes, Cowra, all within easy distance.

Nangar National Park is only a short distance away.

We are a working farm, and on the edge of a real forest, so children must be kept in sight at all times to ensure their safety. Although The Rockies is 2km from farm sheds so it is very quiet.

The creek is on the farm, but is 2km from The Rockies house. In wetter periods there are streams closer to the house. Kids or adults can play at building dams, paddle, etc, in any of these, season and safety permitting.

Our weather is between that of Parkes and Orange. It is colder in winter than Sydney - but not as cold as Orange. The house has heating and air conditioning. We are happy to share our pool if you are here in hot weather.

We are in the country, there will always be wildlife, from kangaroos, emus and eagles to snakes, lizards and insects.

We occasionally have floods which prevent access to the farm. If this occurs and your booking has to be cancelled, we will refund the full cost of the booking, except the Stayz fee, or you can change your booking to another date.

Peaceful, rural stay.
I spent three nights in isolation and peace. There were a few initial problems but Sally was very approachable and helpful. The biggest drawback was the number of ants, but some insecticide helped with that. Lying in the bath at night watching the stars, and some satellites and even one shooting star was amazing. The road to the house is somewhat rough, so you might not want to drive your sedan there.

Rockies stay Jan 2024
The property was comfortable however the grounds around the property including path to clothes line and the bath poorly maintained with very long grass restricting access and fear that snakes may be around close to the verandah.

Great Location, Fantastic Host
Our stay surpassed our expectations, it offered an excellent opportunity to relax and reset. The property's strong points were: -The host is fantastic and enthusiastic, responds quickly and goes above and beyond for your stay. -The location is well secluded, backing onto a large nature reserve, however not too far away from larger population centres. -The cottage is well equipped for longer stays and can cater to a wide range of ages with various activities available in and around the cottage. -The property is a working farm and we were shown an insight into their hard work and progress, something that really demonstrates the friendliness and hospitality of the host. Overall, our experience was very memorable and tranquil, we hope to return soon.

A true country escape
This property is very much a bush retreat. Expect wildlife, wonderful views and proper country roads. It was great to be able to walk the farm with the kids. Close enough to places like Orange too for day trips.

About the host

We are a family of four, all country born and bred. We run a real farm not a hobby farm. This keeps us very busy, but we are happy to show guests around or include them in appropriate farm activities whenever we can.
We have two teenage children.

We enjoy sharing our special slice of Australia with others and showing visitors a little about modern farming - if they want to. Visitors are also welcome to just relax and enjoy The Rockies and don't need to have any contact with us other than on arrival.

Why they chose this property

This is a beautiful area. Our farm has a range of topography and soil types allowing us to run different enterprises that benefit each other and fit together well. It has good farming country whilst also having some wilder and pretty country too.

We are part of a lovely caring and vibrant local community.
And Orange and Cabonne have all the services, entertainment, food and wine we could wish for.

What makes this property unique

The Rockies is set in a magical location. It is so peaceful and nature is so close, you don't have to even leave the yard to see native animals. The views, the sunrise and sunsets are spectacular.

The Rockies just has something special, everyone who stays seems to really love it.
