About Christine Smith

Your hosts at Otway Escapes, Christine and Brett Smith, are delighted to welcome visitors to the beautiful Otways and Great Ocean Road region of Victoria, Australia.

Christine and Brett were captivated by the diversity of the Great Ocean Road region from the first time they visited Lorne and Cumberland River. From the wild and spectacular coastline to the majestic forests and waterfalls; they just love the Otways!

With the passion they possess for the area, they are pleased to share their knowledge of the region and direct their guests to the lesser known attractions.

Now full time inhabitants of the Otways, Christine and Brett have developed Otway Escapes to offer four different and unique accommodations, located on two separate properties.

The luxury spa cottages , love shack & glamping (silver airstream caravan) offer unique and romantic getaways and have been designed with the sole purpose of providing their guests with a holiday experience that they will never forget.

Christine and Brett are “hands on” proprietors and are committed to provide their guests with a personal approach and availability when needed.

For those who are interested in nature and particularly bird life, Otway Escapes offers a wonderful cross section of Australian native creatures.

With its open fields, bushland and waterways you will be guaranteed the opportunity to view some of Australia’s most engaging animals or birds.

The Otway Escapes farm property is an interesting study on the rehabilitation of degraded landscapes. Christine and Brett have planted some 80,000 tress, shrubs and grasses with the purpose of stabilizing the land, reducing erosion and encourage wild life onto the property. The wild life has returned and a recent sighting of a Koala was a great thrill.

Christine and Brett are members of Pennyroyal Hub, Land for Wildlife, Agroforestry, and East Otway Landcare.

Birregurra and Red Rock Arts Committee.

In the midst of the garden

Good sized room, but kitchen area limited and small. We were there in the winter so unable to take advantage of the full property. We had to drive a long way through the old milking area to avoid passing another guest house! Also dog uses the path from the parking as a toilet.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the comments Pauline, It was indeed a shocking weekend, one of the wettest and most miserable for the year. This certainly impacts on guests ability to enjoy what our farm and what the Otways offer. Thanks for the visit and safe travels back to the UK. Christine and Brett.

Peace and Quiet guaranteed

  • 5 of 5

The property itself is amazing with the most amazing views of rolling hills and trees. The accommodation is wonderful with plenty of room for two and a really comfy bed. A perfect end to the day after hiking in the Otways was a drink on the balcony watching the sunset. A truly wonderful place to stay.

Beautiful affordable accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival to The Love Shack. The room itself was very large and decked out tastefully with a Japanese touch. We were impressed with the quality of the building itself and fixtures throughout - obviously not done 'on the cheap!'. Brett and Christine were very helpful and ran through some things we could do closely during the day - they did not appear during out stay except to take us to the nearby Brae restaurant (which was an incredible culinary experience - a MUST). The plunge bath in the bathroom was a great idea and the ability to open all blinds and windows to see the stunning view was definitely a plus. All in all I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a truly relaxing get away (mobile reception was patchy as well which was GREAT!). The bed was very comfortable and they provide a loaf of fresh bread, jams, coffee, milk and some freshly baked biscuits. We will certainly be coming back again.
