Wongarra Farm Homestead

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Wongarra Farm is a magnificent sustainable working farm on 90 acres of exquisite rolling green hills overlooking the Great Southern Ocean. It is ideally placed just 2km inland from the Great Ocean Road and 20 minutes from Apollo Bay offering the best of local ocean beaches and unspoilt rainforest.

The farm is wonderfully diverse and includes rich green pasture, two creeks, several dams, native bush, rain forest and fern-lined gullies. It borders the large Otways Main Ridge Conservation Reserve and hosts abundant native animals and birds, including koalas, wallabies, bower birds and wedge-tailed eagles. The Great Otway National Park is just minutes away.

The farm produces the highly sought after Perigord Black truffles. It also produces grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range eggs and pork as well as a wide range of fruits, vegetables and berries. The farm is a prized example of productive chemical-free farming whilst maintaining respect for the native environment.

The elegant cedar homestead is sited close to a beautiful gurgling creek, waterfall and picturesque pond. The generous living areas look out over an expansive lawn with views of the mature exotic garden full of azaleas, camelias and magnolias through to the ocean beyond. The house comprises three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sun room, laundry, large well-appointed kitchen and huge open-plan living and dining areas.

Two wood-fired heaters and reverse cycle air conditioning guarantee comfort all year round. The living area is comfortable and very generous and even includes a piano. The kitchen features a large dual fuel stove, dishwasher, microwave, espresso machine and ample bench space. There are enough settings to cater for dinners of up to 12 people. The master bedroom is on the second floor and features an ensuite with spa bath as well as picture windows with views to die for. Two further bedrooms downstairs feature access to the outdoor decking and two bathrooms. The second bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the third contains double bunks and a trundle bed. The sun room can double as an additional bedroom. The wide decking overlooks a large lawn and paved entertaining area with an ocean backdrop. From here it is a short walk to a fern-lined waterfall and pond with secret paths leading along the creek through remnant rain forest. The farm's pastures, orchard, berry patch, greenhouse and truffiere are also just a short walk from the house.

Wongarra Farm is ideal for a family holiday getaway or a romantic and indulgent unwind. It is a wonderful experience to see an ethical and productive farm in action but also a terrific base for adventures in the surf, whale watching, surf fishing, the regional gastronomy, the Otways Fly, the numerous horse and mountain bike trails, not to mention stunning displays of the night sky and the simple majesty of the native flora and fauna. There are rich experiences to be had right through all the four seasons.

Wongarra Farm. A slice of paradise.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay and will be back again (possibly annually). The farm stay was excellent for our two small children as we explored the farm, met the animals and played with the dogs every day. The house is very comfortable, is beautifully furnished and has everything you need (it's a home, not a rental vibe). It's a little tired but that makes it more comfortable to stay in. Our daughter loved loved loved the abundance of toys and games to play with (when she wasn't with the dogs). The views from the house and the fields of the ocean are spectacular. Roderick is vey friendly but scarce if that's what you prefer. I recommend this property for people wanting a beautiful, quiet property or a farm for kids.

Quiet Getaway

  • 3 of 5

The house and surrounds are lovely. The bed was comfortable and the coffee machine a nice touch, although provision of some milk would have been appreciated. We stayed on a cold weekend so having a fire was great however the fire starters had run out so we had to purchase our own and no kindling or newspaper was provided so getting a fire going was a challenge. The spa is great but takes a long time to fill. There are beautiful birds around, like rosellas, and bird seed on the balcony so they are always around and nice to watch and on the farm itself there are pigs, sheep and cows etc. Rod was a polite and accommodating host who has a dog that is obsessed with sticks so it was fun to play with the dog throwing him his stick. Its a beautiful farm and would be lovely to go back to when the weather is warmer to have a BBQ on the deck and throw a Frisbee on the lawn.

Amazing property in a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

We've only just returned home and are missing the farm already. Roderick was so very warm and welcoming to us. The house is very homely and situated on the edge of beautiful farmland with fantastic coastal views. We loved exploring the fields and seeing the Alpaca, pigs, cows, resident Koala and the farm dogs Bella and Luna were always excited to see us too. We will definitely come back and recommend the farm to others. Thanks again Roderick :-)

From hills to coast: splendour in the grass!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special place in a very special part of the Victorian coast. Situated in the middle of a working farm, Wongarra Farm Homestead has all mod-cons with no fuss or bother. Host Roderick is quietly present when required but otherwise busy out on the land. (And leaves freshly laid eggs and other produce as a welcome mat.) The place is in a quiet nook of the Otway State Forest, with a view of the sea. As a family of four, we loved every moment of our sojourn--and will be back!

Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 nights as we had a wedding in wongara. Was an amazing little cosy B & B that was tucked away. Was nice and private and so relaxing. The beautiful home made bread and muesli were fantastic for breakfast. Would highly recommend for a quite getaway with plenty of time to unwind
