A peaceful and lovely, absolute beach-front holiday apartment which is all of the ground floor in a huge house - with stunning bay views, patios to your own gardens, a huge deck entertaining and BBQ area over a 12 metres long swimming pool and only 1 hour from Brisbane.

Catch a fast scheduled passenger or car ferry from Redland Bay to this peaceful sandy Secret Beach home set in unspoilt natural surrounds teeming with bird life. Macleay Island Beachfront Apartment, offers spectacular views across Moreton Bay from all rooms & patios. Here is the ideal place to unwind, rejuvenate & indulge yourselves. (No stormy sea and raging surf - just gentle lapping of waves on our secluded, sandy, safe beach - ideal for families and fishing too).

Featuring 2 spacious Queen bedrooms and 1 King or Twin bedrooms, every one with double Spa bathrooms en-suite and furnished patios, this home is designed to delight up to 6 guests and ensure their comfort. A maximum of two non-destructive and responsible children over 11 years are included in that number and would be most welcome.

When no Holiday Apartment bookings are made we operate at Yarrandabbi Dreaming Boutique B&B - (Refer to our TripAdvisor 5 star ratings). Importantly, when you reserve the property as your Holiday Apartment you will definitely not share with any other guests!!! The Owners live in their own Apartment on the upper level away from holiday makers and respect their privacy. They maintain the gardens and swimming pool, do complimentary laundry and effect your linen changeoverr after 4 nights.

Things to do during your stay at Macleay Island Holiday Home include;

*Enjoy the 3 person Canadian canoe, or fishing kayak - paddle around our sheltered Bay where you are guaranteed to see several turtle and dugong (Manitee) and dolphin in season. Naturally life jackets are provided!

*Take our 4 good bicycles to explore the islands - the inter-island ferry service allowing bikes, is free. Helmets are provided too.

*Fish off the beach, or just relax there under a shady tree with a drink and book, or,

*Take the large canoe out to place a crab pot and maybe treat yourselves to the bounty next day. (We will be happy to smoke your catch also if you so choose).

* Play a friendly 9 hole game on our nearby picturesque course with a good Bistro restaurant.

*Play barefoot lawn bowls on Summer Sundays at the most scenic Bowls Club in Queensland - they have an outstanding Bistro.

*Walk around the 6.5 kilometre island's walking tracks, roads & beaches.

*Swim or lie around the pool or on the peaceful and private golden sands beach.

(As all over Moreton Bay the tides come and go). When the tide is out watch the wading birds and hunting sea birds scavenge and soar, or take the 'yabbie pump' and pump for scampi or sand worm bait, wiggle in the sand for pipis).

At the end of the day watch the sunset sky over the bay. The night sky is amazingly clear here and the Milky Way seems so close. (Who would believe we are so close to a major city with good transport links)!!

We do NOT accept bookings from 'Schoolies', bachelor/bachelorette, nor 'party' groups of young singles under 21 years of age.

Only 1 hour from Brisbane or 1.5 hrs from the Gold Coast, and accessed from Redland Bay's Ferry and vehicular Barge Terminals: Macleay Island is just 15 minutes on frequent, scheduled Brisbane's Translink public transport Passenger Ferries, or 45 minutes by hourly vehicular barges operated by Stradbroke Ferries..

Macleay Island is the yet undiscovered gem of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, off Brisbane. It has sheltered, cove like, tidal sandy beaches. No Surf! Biking, canoeing, sailing, boating, fishing, or swimming, walking and exploring the other islands via the free inter-island ferries are all popular activities. The Island is 6.5kms long and a kilometre wide.

Enjoy the spectacular maritime scenery from the friendly Lawn Bowls Club, (Club Macleay, or, play on the picturesque and friendly 9 hole Golf course. Both clubs, so very reasonably priced welcome guests and both have very good Bistro restaurants, entertainment on Saturday and Friday nights respectively, and, courtesy buses. Our Tingira Boat club has sailing on Sundays and welcomes guests on Friday nights. Other eating options are, a fish and chip takeaway and a Deli Cafe -located 5 mins walk around the corner from the Holiday Home. Mammas Pizzaria also does BBQ Ribs, salads and deliveries and next door is a 'wicked' bakery to indulge your anti-diet urges.

Two Supermarkets, a bakery, butchery, chemist, dentist, Doctors, ambulance, Fire and SES services, Real Estate and Post Office, Library, Yoga, Tai Chi classes, Craft groups, Organic Markets on Saturdays are all here.

There is are many talented and some famous artists' and writers' living here. Do visit the M.I. Arts Complex - a Gallery and Pottery adjacent to the Bowls Club. A Lions Club and other community organisations service this friendly and supportive community of around 2,700 people.

Macleay Island is a safe and relatively crime free community - the way things were 30 years ago. Children 'free range' under an umbrella of community caring. Doors are more often left unlocked. Our insurances are the cheapest in the region. We have left the world's problems behind us! Even our drinking water is excellent!

Be astounded by our myriad bird life in native beach front gardens amid spectacular bay scenery. Where in the world does all this exist so close to a major city!

Macleay Island Beachfront Apartment is set in native gardens and lawns, 10 metres above picturesque and peaceful Secret Beach. (See photo's). We share this beach with only 3 neighbouring acreage properties.

In this natural Australian 'Bush 'n Beach' setting you will be delighted to find over 200 species of unafraid native and sometimes rare birds, bearded dragons, blue tongue lizards and many species of frogs. Even our policies and practices are designed to be Environmentally Sustainable and our building exceeds the 4.5 Star building code. (Exceeds Cyclone standards)!

Our outlook is to the North East over Moreton Bay towards North Stradbroke Island. Prevailing breezes are from the South East and we are most fortunate to be 'wafted' by them during very hot Summer months - such a relief! This is the cooler side of the island and temperatures are generally a few degrees cooler on Macleay Island than Brisbane given these bay breezes!. We are sheltered from Southerly & Westerly winter storms too.

Winter is a glorious time to visit when temperatures range from 10 to 26 degrees Celsius with little humidity and clear skies. Bask in the warm sun relishing sea views! Summer temperatures range from 18 to 43 degrees Celsius and oft times high humidity. (Thank heavens for our Air-conditioning). Our rain fall is generally during the Summer months.

Please respect the islands' environment, our bird and wild life. Leave nothing but your footsteps in the sand. Take away precious memories and a desire to return to our peaceful life.

About Yvonne Hulbert

Trevor and I own and operate Yarrandabbi Dreaming B&B Retreat, having won the TripAdvisors Certificates of Excellence and their GreenLeaders' Gold Awards every year since 2013. We love hosting people, however, enjoy a break from cooking and have a holiday ourselves, when people book this whole prestigious property for their own use as their own private, self-contained Holiday Home. We would be available for local information and help when needed and to maintain the lawns, gardens and pool.

We have our own apartment and garden on the same acreage property, and a quiet Poodle. Your being here enjoying the facilities gives us a chance to stay with family on the mainland too.

Trevor is an Australian, a qualified Chef, a Manufacturing Engineer and retired G.M. of a large organization helping people with Disabilities. Yvonne, formerly a New Zealander, worked in the airline and travel industry for years, then trained as a Teacher, teaching at South Bank Institute of TAFE in Brisbane. We have lived and worked in New Zealand, South Africa, Britain and Australia and travelled widely. We are really interested in meeting people and learning their stories...

We designed and Commercially built Yarrandabbi Dreaming ourselves to exceed the expectations of travellers and the Licencing - Commercial requirements. The year we opened we won the Best Hosted Accommodation regional awards 2 years in a row...

The good bicycles, the large Canoe, fishing gear and beach chairs for fishing off our beach under shady trees on a hot afternoon, the crab pots, the pool, BBQ and various outdoor nooks you can escape to are here for your free use! Just like your Personal Resort.

Then you return to beautiful accommodation with everything you need and more to relax and be entertained. Large flat-screened digital TV's with Foxtel and Netflix and free WiFi, or, light up the BBQ and eat alfresco over the pool - or 300 metres around the corner order the best fish and Chips or Chinese, or, frequent the Coffee maybe take the courtesy transport 1km up to Club Macleay and its scenic venue for excellent Bistro meals and entertainment.

What makes this apartment unique

Trevor and I were going to build a small house and retire we invited some of our colleagues to a picnic on this land before building and they were astounded by the beautiful scenery, the tranquility and almost tame prolific birdlife. They urged us to build a B&B instead for others to enjoy this now rare, away from the noise, stress, traffic and mainland madness!

So, we did. Being action people with experiences of high standards of accommodation world-wide, and knowing that we have a very special natural, unique destination here, we designed this spacious, special place for others to share and enjoy. Our name "Yarrandabbi Dreaming" was given to us by Aunty Margaret, Elder of the Quandamooka people who used to gather shell fish, hunt, fish and 'picnic' on our land over Eons. Our name tells of "The path the Ancients walked through the tall trees". Remnants of these majestic trees are still here, surviving the farming activity in the early 1900's, now gone. But we have built something very special here for your enjoyment now!
