History of the Cottage

In memory of one of our early settlers, the cottage is named after Augusta Florence Alford who owned the cottage from 1901 to 1920. Her husband was Henry King Alford, whose family were among the early settlers to the area.

The first time that the name 'Toowoomba' appeared on a public document was when it was written on Henry's baptismal certificate at the first Church of England service held on August 29th, 1852. It was Henry's mother who gave the future city of Toowoomba its name. Henry had various pastoral interests and was elected Mayor of Toowoomba in 1911 and 1912.

This cottage retains its historic charm with high ceilings and double brick walls. If you wish to immerse yourself in historic charm, then this is the place to stay.

Augusta Cottage and it's gardens were beautiful. It was the perfect home away from home and we did not want to leave. The house was fully equiped with many extras. Thank you again Therese for letting us stay in your stunning home.

Charming Cottage in a Great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our few days at Augusta's Cottage. Therese was their to great us and give us lots of good tips of where to eat. The location is so handy, great little cafes just a few blocks away and a easy walk to the town centre.

Enjoyed having morning coffee on the front deck listening to the birds in the garden.

Overall just an enjoyable stay. Thanks Therese for sharing your lovely cottage.

Therese was the perfect host. Everything was great. Really central location with a quick walk into the city. Lots of heating options and a comfortable bed. Just bring your own hairdryer as one is not provided.

We just loved our second visit to Augusta's Cottage. It is full of character, homely, cosy and yet spacious. We love sitting around the fire in the evenings. The garden is lovely. A wonderful place to stay in the winter. Therese's paintings are fun and she is a super helpful host.
