ACTIVITIES AND SIGHT SEEING

The Tamar River:

The Tamar River is nestled in the historic Tamar Valley and is easily accessed from Mayrhofen. It is Australia's longest navigable estuary and flows through pasture land, orchards, vineyards and forests. Its coves and protected inlets provide sanctuary for thousands of native water birds.

The Tamar Conservation Area is on the Tamar River estuary and includes the Tamar Island Wetlands Reserve. It is a popular area for bird watching and there are approximately 3.2 km of walking tracks at the wetlands including a boardwalk for easy access to the island.

The river offers many activities from delightful picnic and swimming areas to attractions such as Seahorse World, Platypus House and river cruises are also available.

Wine & Restaurants:

The Tamar Valley is home to the Tamar Valley Wine Route which offers more than thirty cellar doors spread over 170km around the Tamar Valley. The first great wine tasting treat is around the corner at just two kilometres away from the house.

Tasmania has won numerous foodie awards over the last few years and we can recommend some absolutely world class restaurants for you to choose from and all are within a 20 minute drive.

Adventure:

If hiking is on the holiday agenda Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park boast an abundance of natural wonders. As a UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness Area you will see ancient rainforests, alpine heathlands, icy streams cascading out of the rugged mountain terrain and ancient pines mirrored in the still waters of glacial lakes. There is also the possibility of seeing a Tasmanian Devil.

Ben Lomond National Park is described as a craggy plateau. In spring and summer it is abundant with wildflowers and provides a breathtaking hiking experience. In winter the park turns into a very cute and small ski resort that is perfect for families. It has seven lifts and snow making machines. The best thing is it takes less than 2 hours to get here from ‘Mayrhofen’. Mid July to October are the best times for skiing with the warmer months more suitable for hiking.

Launceston and its surrounding areas have something to offer everyone, however our most memorable times have been at Mayrhofen by the lake. We hope Mayrhofen brings you and your family just as many memorable moments.

Grindelwald Swiss Village:

This quaint Swiss Village is an easy 10 minute walk away for tea, lunch, dinner and family fun that includes a children's playground, bouncing cushions, paddle boats, mini golf as well as a golf course for golfing enthusiasts.

Excellent holiday accomodation.

  • 5 of 5

Mayrhofen on Grindelwald offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a little bit of Switzerland in our own back yard. The grounds and surrounding district are both beautiful and provide the ideal background for a peaceful retreat. The house itself is spacious and very well presented with minute detail given to everything required for a lovely holiday. We have very much enjoyed our stay and can only highly recommend it to fellow holidaymakers.

The absolute best!

  • 5 of 5

The house was a complete delight, there is honestly nothing we could fault. From the very neat and tidy interior to the perfect roses in the garden, everything was a cut above. Even the towels and the linen were great quality. The pantry was well stocked and the laundry was perfect for 5 adults to get a couple of serious loads of washing in.

We spent 5 days there and were very sorry to move on to Hobart for our second half of the trip. We will definitely be back.

Wonderland property

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the house and our warm welcome.

If you are after relaxation and calm this is the place. The house gardens are a gardeners delight. Plus, taking that morning walk around the lake, bliss. Especially being stalked by ducklings, which made us laugh a lot.

Instead of city life we had silence, natural sounds and no crowds around us. We are a family of adults, but the inner child came out and we were flying kites by the lake. Wonderful family holiday for reconnecting. We were so busy, we didn't even get to watch t.v. Now that is impressive in this modern age. If you are on Vodafone expect little to no reception, but internet superb, so no stress.

Breathtaking location and gorgeous house

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Mayrhofen. The house is huge, beautifully furnished and has all the latest mod cons and tech. It is set right on the lake with amazing mountain views on the other side. Our kids loved all the wildlife including ducks, rabbits and wallabies. Joe was great to deal with and very responsive.

Great property and wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at Mayrhofen and would definitely recommend our friends to stay at there if they decide to visit Launceston. The beautiful flowers, lovely orchard and charming wildlife on the property were lovely additions to our trip and the host Joe provided us with excellent service and timely advice. Great place to stay.

The groundskeeper Wreford was charming and helpful and went an extra mile to provide us with a rice cooker. Also, the kitchen and pantry were well stocked and pristine.

Fantastic Property Close to Launceston

  • 5 of 5

This property is spacious and was very well kept and very close to Launceston. The local wildlife is a delight to watch and the kitchen is well equipped for all you needs. The manager and cleaners are very accommodating and willing to go the extra mile to ensure the best possible experience. I hope to return in the future.
