Enjoy a short short stay in this pet friendly designated holiday home in the Mt Lawley River Precinct close to St John of Gods Hospital. A short walk to Beaufort Street cafe strip, Maylands 8th Avenue and East Perth Cove. This unique character cottage filled with charm is close to the Perth CBD (5 kls) with bus and train access, pet exercise areas such as Banks Reserve.

From the custom built leadlight front door to the high ceilings and beautifully maintained functional fireplace. Here is a holiday home that is warm, inviting and has personality and character. All linen included.

Positioned just a short stroll along the waterway to the East Perth Cove, Beaufort St.

Mt Lawley, and 8th Avenue, Maylands allows guests easy access to a multitude of cafes, restaurants, parklands and picnic areas.

A 15 minute cycle or 30 minute walk to Perth CBD.

Weekly rate from $1050 for 2 adults, non peak season Additional costs for additional guests. Nightly rate of $180 (for 2 adults) applies to shorter stays.

Wasted our money

A cute place, but it was not secure for our pets, we had checked prior to booking. One dog could squeeze out and higher up in the gate the gaps got larger and our other dog would have tried to get out as well. The inside had clean parts but in particular the state of the lounge suite was very off putting and not where you would want to sit due to being covered in stains. The owners offered to help alter the gate somehow, we had tried ourselves but seeing as this was also entry to the property it needed to be moveable. We had an event to attend and didn’t have time to waste, which we should not of had too when your paying for these things, we preferred to not stay at the property even though we had already payed for it . We offered the owner to split the cost but they refused. We never unpacked and then imposed on relatives instead. This wasn’t appropriate accomodation for pets or children. It backs on to a very busy road and the back courtyard is not private, it only has lattice between the neighbours courtyard. I would suggest the owners stay at a similar priced house and see what is expected because we have stayed at many houses over the years and this was not good enough, hence the reason we didn’t stay in the property

Owner's Response: Dear Alana, it is unfortunate that your story is not truthful - not only were you offered assistance for your pets to feel at home and ensure their security you were also offered early check in & late check out for your family to accommodate your event as well as complimentary wine and port! The cleaners spent 3 hours preparing the house for your arrival with only 2 days notice prior to booking / check in! The guests who checked out prior to your booking had stayed for 2 weeks with 2 small dogs and 3 children under the age of 6- with not one complaint!! They were very happy guests and enjoyed their experience at the Charming Cottage. The Charming Cottage is an inner city location which is close to Optus Stadium, Claisebrook Cove, Mount Lawley Cafe & Wine Bar Strip and only 2 kilms from the Perth CBD. Not many inner city accommodation providers will accept one pet never mind two and also provide several secure courtyards as well as being located close to several pet friendly parks. Several options of resolution were offered for your issues however nothing made you happy. We suggest in choosing your next holiday home you take more time in planning, choosing and also checking the location map ("GOOGLE") which is listed on each property web page for an suitable location - this will alleviate hassles for you, your family and/or pets, as well as future holiday home owners who take pride and make it their mission to offer a positive guest experience. regards, Marion, proud owner / manager of the Charming Cottage

Lovely Cottage

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. We were looking for dog friendly accommodation, and this was perfect - a beautiful courtyard was just what we were looking for. Very clean and the owner was very helpful. Close to some wonderful places to eat and only about 10-15mins to the convention centre. Thanks for having us.

payment and communiction warning

We did enjoy our stay "BUT" be warned..to check details of your payment i.e.Total amount to be paid for the number of nights u have booked. The proprietor offers NO communication or acknowledgment of the total amount payable or when the full payment or deposit has been transacted. We gave our credit card numbers over the phone, so there for, there is no way that Stayz can trace the payment. The amount withdrawn was well above the amount to be paid, as when we found out and questioned the payment, if was outside the dates you can cancel a booking.(so therefore penalties are applied) When phoning the card numbers, we acknowledged a mistake had been made in the unconfirmed booking dates and that we will be exiting three days earlier, as had been originally arranged. The proprietor charged us for the three extra nights. Many emails have transpired, which has seen the proprietor reinstate half of the money owing to us. We have not accepted a recent offer of a night inkind in the same cottage, as long as we stay and pay for two more nights and it comes with many other conditions. Regards Wendy & Robert Stewart

It is unfortunate that the confusion with the many changes and cancellations of your booking dates created this negative feedback. After 35 emails including several date changes, which were all accommodated, you neglected to state that you received a reduced nightly rate and a refund for 2 nights. Stayz provided you with the original quotation based the original enquiry dates however you chose to book direct. Therefore Stayz is not involved in the payment process and we paid Stayz based on the reduced nightly rate you paid. The detailed confirmation letters which were sent to you several times outlined your booking details including the reduced nightly rate and number of nights each time the changes were made. The amount withdrawn from your account was the number of nights booked, then a refund for 2 nights was applied to your credit card which was detailed in writing by email. We are happy to provide guests with a receipt or statement when requested, however most guests are happy with the transaction from their bank statement unless a copy is required for business or tax purposes. Not so great a stay

The pictures look a lot better than the actual. Firstly its access was confusing, it took us some time to locate the entrance. The front of the house had a For Sale sign and the gate was blocked, overgrown with weeds. The house looked abandoned. When we finally figured how to reach the gate. the key lock holding the gate and door keys could not be opened. We were beginning to think the whole deal was a scam. And inspite my asking earlier, for a contact number of the owner, we received none. There was no possibility to get help from the owner. Finally we knocked on the neighbour, who helped prised open the jammed key lock. We were thankful to the kind lady who took the trouble to sort out our dilemma - as we were thinking of leaving the place to stay somewhere else.

The interior looked ok, but then there were these bottles of spices - some more than two years expiry lining the kitchen cupboard. Then the quarter roll of toilet paper was used up and there was no spares in the house. No detergent provided for the dishwasher... ...

All in all, we did not get the feeling the owner cared or was interested in the guests.

We had stayed in 6 properties during our nearly one month visit to Perth and the Margaret River; we rate this property lowly, and would not recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback Michael, it is unfortunate you did no enjoy the Mt Lawley Cottage, a lot of effort has been put into to make it a comfortable holiday home. The check in email clearly explains how to access the property and key information as listed below: "Entrance is at the private driveway at 14 Ellesmere St where you enter a car park, 66 is at the opposite end beside the communal clothes line, there is not entrance from Guildford Rd. You will see the #66 on the back of the wall of the building and a grey gate for the entrance. You will need to list the gate in order to unlock it due to the hinge having dropped." "The first grey security gate needs to be lifted a fraction for the gate to lock properly." Unfortunately we have had to go oversea for family reasons and were not able to greet you as we normally to a=to guest arriving at the property. We will discuss with the gardener why the garden was overgrown, his role is to weed regularly. It is unfortunate that you did not have a good experience, the feedback we have had from previous guests has all been positive and the property has been highly rated. Best regards, Marion McFadden
