Gorgeous warm house with a fabulous outlook

  • 5 of 5

Ideally positioned in a quiet pocket of Lorne and only a short walk into town. It was lovely to have sweeping sea views from inside and out. The house was well equipped and beautifully appointed, very warm and inviting. We had a fantastic weekend and will be booking again.

We were a group of nine adults and had the best time!!

The house is lovely with great views, decor, comfy beds, plenty of parking and facilities. Easy walk to everything too. Lorne is lovely and this a perfect house if you want to be close to everything and enjoy the magnificent views.

The bathroom configuration was great for 9 adults too.

All the booking arrangements were easy and Belinda was happy to answer all our (many) questions and queries re payment etc. We received our security deposit back with 48 hours as promised too.

We will return !!

We had a great time at Farme Cross in Lorne! The house was great. It had everything we needed. Nice and clean too. Location was a big plus - only 10 mins to shops and 5 mins to beach. Terrific holliday!

2015 Christmas Ruined and Uncooperative Host

  • 2 of 5

Host did not cooperate when we had to evacuate the house after one night only, due to a bush fire in Wye River on Christmas Day 2015.

Her house was never affected yet we had to find replacement accommodation for 2 international guests - last minute / high cost.

- She did not accept proposal to share the burden of remaining days

- Did not accept alternative proposal to let us make up the days we did not stay, during off-peak season in winter

- Did not respond to numerous text messages, emails and phone calls to discuss options, after we let her know we did not have insurance.

Ultimately we paid AUD2250 for a single night… not including the replacement accommodation in Melbourne.

Additionally, house was very uncomfortable in the hot weather - there was one air-conditioner only in the living room downstairs which did not actually work (blew room temperature air), and inside heated up dramatically - we had to escape from the house to the beach water-side during the day to obtain relief from the heat in the house.

Owner's Response: It would be a shame if anyone was hesitant to enjoy Lorne or our house because of what is clearly a personal attack in which uncoperative is defined as ..I didn’t get what I wanted and was affected by a bushfire. The house is LOVELY (so much so that she wants to return in off peak) and Lorne is BEAUTIFUL and NEEDS VISITORS to recover from the Xmas tragedy which she only sees the personal side of. Moira, her family (on holiday from Singapore where they now live) and her international guests booked a stay for 3 nights starting Xmas Eve morning. They were unfortunatley affected by the Otway bushfires and acting on the CFA advice evacutaed the house. They chose to leave Lorne on Xmas evening at 7pm …the second night of their stay. Moira sent me a text message advising me of their decision and said she would call me the next morning. The next morning at 9.26am the CFA advised that there was no threat in Lorne. As I didn’t receive the promised call from (actually have not received any calls from her…at all), I assumed they had returned to continue with their holiday. That evening I received a text message advising that they were returning to collect belongings on what now would have been the last night of their stay.…please note they had retained the keys. They did return and took their belongings but left the house in a mess (per my cleaner) which required extra cleaning the next morning when the cleaner arrived on what was to be their checkout day. There was a also a broken chair. Moira contacted me via text wanting a refund motivated by the cost of her guests hotel. There was thereafter an exchange of many long text messages in between us and asked I her to look into her travel insuarnce as both her family and her guests had travelled internationally and used credit cards to book flights…as confirmed by her. Her immediate response was that they did’t have any insurance leaving me feeling like it was simply easier to get a refund from me. After yet more text messagesd (no calls at all) I was left feeling like she was taking advantage of me and the situation. I thank Moira for her constructive feedback regarding the air con, but given the extreme conditions on Xmas day I am not sure that the investment in additional units would be a sound decision given the rarity of such hot days. There are also fans in all rooms. Regards, The Grinch that didn’t spoil Xmas ?
