About Margaret Arnot
My husband, Richard, and I built our house and the cottage, Jemima's, in 2014. Our house is next to the cottage but yet is quite private from it. When we have guests stay, they are able to keep completely to themselves if they wish but we are on hand if they need anything. We have lived in the area for many years and have a good knowledge of what there is to do and where things are in the area. We believe we have the best of both worlds - peace and quiet but close to everything that you could want in a holiday destination.
Margaret Arnot purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Margaret Arnot chose Brooklet
The property has open spaces and secluded spaces. We have 5 acres, much of it open space and some of it forested. The pool is located in a secluded area surrounded by rainforest. This is available to guests at all times. We are very close to the very popular Newrybar with its Harvest Deli & Restaurant and only 15 mins drive from spectacular beaches. We chose this area because of its proximity to the famous beaches of Byron Bay but away from the hustle and bustle.
What makes this Cottage unique
We purchased the property so that we could build our own home and guest house in the style that we wanted and for our particular purposes. The property was a blank canvas when we bought it and we have been able to put our individual stamp on the property and have seen it develop over the past few years. We really enjoy sharing our unique property with our guests.

A quiet and cosy cottage, in the beautiful hinterland. A short car trip from great cafes, restaurants and amazing beaches. Hosts are lovely and accommodating. A great country spot, away from the busy streets of Byron. Would be happy to stay again😊
Thank you Marianna. It was a delight to host you. I'm so pleased you had a peaceful stay. Hopefully you will be able to return some time.
A great place to stay
A lovely place to stay within fantastic surroundings. Richard and Margaret were great hosts. Highly recommended!
Thank you, Andrew. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Hope you are back home safely and hope to see you again sometime.
Margaret & Richard
Loved the property and Margaret was a wonderful host.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cottage. The accommodation was well equipped with everything we needed, which made the stay with our young family very comfortable. There was lots of outdoor space for our children to run around and they loved the swimming pool and the chickens. The hamper with delicious local products was a lovely surprise. The location was perfect for us: a quiet location in the Hinterland with easy access to tourist attractions and Byron Bay. We will definitely be returning.
Thank you, Lisette! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we loved meeting you and sharing a pizza meal with you. We hope you are able to return to this area and that we will see you again.
a home away from home
Margaret and Richard were the perfect hosts. Everything you could need in holiday accomodation, they had thought of. Perfect for our young family, especially with the pool.
So glad you enjoyed your holiday. Hope you can come again soon.
Family Friendly place at convenient distance from Byron Bay
Took a while to find it but once arrived a comfortable place to stay. The detour made it a scenic route which was nice. Fully equipped. They even have little kid stuff if you need. Margaret and Richard were very helpful and friendly.
Things to note:
- if you have little ones no longer in a cot you need some creativity to use put bed to the side and use chairs to serve as sides to the double bed.
- do groceries in Bangalow as it’s quite a drive
- best coffee in Australia at Harvest just 5 mins drive
- day trip to Byron Bay is fantastic
