About this property

The Shack 2.0 - Lake Eildon

'The Shack' has undergone a major rennovation with no expense spared. After almost 20 years of fun for family, friends & visitors in our beloved tiny shack, it was time to upgrade. The one outdoor dunny has become three indoor thrones including an ensuite. Ducted heating & cooling plus a stunning Cheminees Philippe fireplace are all sure to keep you comfy no matter the time of year.

The kitchen & meals areas are the heart of the shack; ready to feed you & your friends with electric oven, gas hot plates, dishwasher, double fridge (with ice maker & filtered water), microwave & everything you need to whip up a feast. The large wooden table indoors can easily accommodate 10 people around it plus there's an outdoor table on the back deck - perfect to catch the sun in the morning. A big six burner BBQ on the back deck also awaits the tong master/mistress.

Master room (plus ensite) has a king bed (with Super King linen), the other bedrooms can sleep up to 8 people. All linen, including pillows, doonas, sheets & bath towels are provided. All mattresses have mattress protectors & the same for pillows (of which there are spares to suit your taste).

Upstairs has a large flat screen smart TV plus satelite TV & is surrounded by luxurious furniture & soft furnishings. The kids have their own rumpus room downstairs with a big TV, leather sofa & bean bags.

The new improved decks are appointed with outdoor furniture to ensure you don't miss the wonderful lake views & sunset drink opportunities. Internet has had an upgrade to Starlink too plus the board games cupboard is well stocked.

So, if the deep waters of Lake Eildon, via a small 5 knot cove at the secluded end of the Right Arm of Taylor Bay in our brand new, luxuriously appointed home, sounds like your perfect holiday rental property then you have found it at ‘The Shack’.

The lake can be easily accessed by foot, with free and easy boat launching at the Alliance boat ramp in Eildon alongside the lake wall (~15 mins drive).

The cove in front of the house is wonderful for swimming & mooring your boat as it is free of large trees & debris. It has also been a successful fishing spot for many anglers all year round given the depth of the water.

You will also enjoy making use of the comfortable & well shaded day-barge parked adjacent to the property to moor your boat & to swim or fish from.

There is plenty of space to park your trailer or an additional car.

There are no pets permitted on the property, in order to encourage the wildlife to remain & for hygiene/allergy reasons. Smoking is NOT permitted inside.

Location
The Right Arm of Taylor Bay is secluded, access to the lake is limited to residents only via a sealed road. It is all the more special given it proximity to ‘civilisation’; only ~10 mins to Eildon township, ~15 mins to the dam wall & boat launching facilities & ~30 mins to the larger town of Alexandra.

Most homes in the Taylor Bay area are situated on 1-2 acres of land & are mostly occupied by friendly holiday makers who would always be willing to help a friend in need. We ask that you are considerate of neighbours, keeping late night noise to a minimum & refraining from walking on or using neighbours property.

The property is ~2 hours drive from Melbourne along the Maroondah Highway via the magnificent Yarra Valley and through the Black Spur. The area is surrounded by many bush walks, 4WD tracks, great places to eat & lots of opportunities to scurry away with a good book; there really is something for everyone all year round.

The close proximity of the lake to the house & the surrounding bush environment means that we remind you of the associated risks, especially those with young children. We accept no liability for loss or injury.

Like most Taylor Bay properties, our driveway is a dirt road & can be rough, especially after heavy rains, it is not recommended for a low/sports car.

Very cool gothic lake
Me and some friends stayed here for the weekend. It was very late and dark so we had trouble finding the drive way. Brendas communication and directions were so great that it helped us find the way!The next morning was amazing waking up to the views! What a cool lake. Beautiful nature all around you. Such a relaxing weekend! Thank you

disregard all previous reviews!!! great house
stayed in for a night with a group of friends and we all loved it. we decided to ignore the previous reviews and check out the house for ourselves and no regrets. great location, super close to the lake. clean house and all basic requirements for kitchening and cooking. private rooms which was great and lots of extra space. the host, Brenda, was very easy to communicate with and very kind. be mindful that only Telstra works in the area and barely. we got a late checkout to suit our plans which was nice. everything exceeded expectations :) highly recommend! thanks Brenda

Overpriced and under delivered
The location is amazing and being on the water was great but that's about it. It really is a shack. Tiny kitchen with a very small living area. Downstairs was very rustic with unfinished and unpainted walls and a tiny bathroom with a tiny sink you could hardly wash your hands in. Lucky the weather was great as we spent most of our time outside as with 10 people there really wasn't enough room inside to sit. Front decking not in a great condition and no outdoor furniture to sit on. We've rented in Eildon a few times before and had a lot better accomodations for the money.

6/10 Okay

Not quite as it seems
The open fire has been removed since the photos were taken which was a big disappointment (photo still showing it is there), the only vehicle access to the water was through the carport which they had blocked with their own vehicle and boat making it impossible to get a car down to the waters edge (not a desirable walk back and forth constantly) Other small things not mentioned like the main toilet is accessed from the outside of the house, shower taps in main bathroom get dangerously hot, oven does not light without manually using matches nor does it have any readable temperature gauges, steep rocky driveway probably not suitable to a non 4x4 in wet conditions. Otherwise it is a nice little cottage kept clean.
