Great weekend getaway!!

Great location and cabin! Super clean and spacious! Quiet and access to national forest is right there for hiking. We enjoyed our first time in Cloudcroft and the rental made it feel like home. Thank you!!

Here's hoping this cabin gets flipped soon!

  • 2 of 5

We were very disappointed in this cabin. The cabin was dirty and the entire downstairs reaked of mold coming from a storeroom down there. The beds were all too high for a short or older person to climb in and out of, and the bedding was heavy, old and smelly downstairs. The upstairs furniture was uncomfortable and the spa area outside was cluttered, dirty and not private at all. The kitchen was so poorly equipped with dishes, glasses, cups and utensils that we had to buy paper plates and plastic ware and cups to use. In addition, I shared this information with the owners privately at our time of rental, hoping they would take care of things, but never heard back, so finally decided I should warn any unsuspecting rentors. The best thing about this house was the location. I have never been disappointed in a VRBO rental until now, and I have stayed at many different places.

Was great! It has 3 separate sleeping areas. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed.

We all had a great time. The hot tub was fun for all. My brother used it each day several times. My son in law loved that we had elk on the mountain behind the house. The cabin is very close to town but seems isolated and private.

Lovely, relaxing spot in Cloudcroft

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home is located just on the fringe of Cloudcroft above the old Alta Visa motel and Big Daddy's Diner. It's far enough removed from Burro Street to be nice and quiet (even on a crazy 4th of July weekend!), but only a couple of minutes to town...even close enough to walk. As with most rental homes, necessities may or may not be available based on the previous guests. (We dashed out to Family Dollar a mile away for paper towels, dish washing liquid, body soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper.) Fridge is a smaller size, so don't come with a week's worth of groceries! Kitchen was well equipped. Upstairs deck was spacious and lovely, and the hot tub downstairs was very appreciated! The home was in excellent condition. Fans and extra blankets were stocked in the closets. The wood burning stove was ready to use (wood downstairs next to the hot tub) but it was warm enough that we didn't use it.

We happened to visit during a particularly bad summer Mothpocalypse, when the Miller moths were swarming. Some screens on the window would make cooling the home easier (and cheap!) without the inevitable swarm of moths, but the home is for sale, so I'm not sure the current owner will be investing any more in the home before the next owner takes over. This will not be an issue outside the normal Miller moth migration in high summer, but we had to choose between a hot, moth-free house or swarms of moths but comfortable inside temps. Come late August the moths will be gone, so the no-screen issue won't be as big a deal.

I would definitely return to this rental!

We all loved the house and sitting on the upper outside porch in the morning drinking coffee was AMAZING! We were on bikes and the drive was a little too steep and rocky for the bikes to be coming and going.

Aspen Lodge winter vacation review - Feb 2016

  • 4 of 5

Our trip was in mid-February 2016. Overall, it was a great value, and the lodge for the most part met up to our expectations. We enjoyed our stay in southern NM and Cloudcroft. The location among the pines was nice and shaded so the snow hadn't melted yet. The big downside was that there was no snow shoveled walkway. All of the walkways were covered in deep snow or ice and were not suitable to bring in a family through. It wasn't even clear where the best walkway should be shoveled. I found the shovel and managed to clear a path eventually (a day or two later) but that did take some time. So the initial trips to bring all the luggage in were quite unpleasant. We also found that there were not extra trash bags supplied and no instructions were given on the nearest dumpster location. The manager was very prompt and helped us with all our questions.

Also, from prior reviews we expected the game tables downstairs for the kids but they were moved to another property. We did find the beds to be firm but comfortable - that had been a complaint in prior reviews. We had trouble finding the correct controls to keep the downstairs heater going. It was usually much colder (maybe 10 deg) than upstairs, but it would fluctuate. So we mostly spent time upstairs or took blankets downstairs if needed.

Great location, very close to everything in town. Overall, I'd recommend it!
