River Cottage - getaway on Macdonald River

Bedrooms 3
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

RIVER COTTAGE is located at Woolbrook in the New England region of NSW. The farm is situated on the Oxley Highway approximately 25 kms west from the township of WALCHA or 30 kms east from BENDEMEER and set in the picturesque mountain ranges of the Northern Tablelands. It is 50 mins drive from the major town of Tamworth and 50 mins drive from Armidale; 2.5 hrs drive from Port Macquarie and 5.5 hrs from Sydney.

The Northern Tablelands embraces four distinct seasons from mild summers to bracing winters. The nights are always cool in summer to allow a peaceful night's sleep and the ever changing landscape takes your breath away. From the panoramic views of the landscape to the peace and tranquility of the sounds of the bubbling water cascading over the rocks and sand of the mountain fresh Macdonald River meandering through the property.

RIVER COTTAGE is located on a running cattle station enterprise called "Loloma" which is adjacent to the village of WOOLBROOK. The property spans over 2000 acres of rolling countryside with an elevation from 1000 meters above sea level to 1100 metres above sea level. From the everyday running which go hand in hand with such an operation to the relaxing sounds of the Macdonald River which passes straight through the centre of the property giving the keen fisherman 6 kms of tranquil fishing locations all to yourself. If you're not into fishing, then pack a picnic basket and wonder down to the river, read a book and watch the cattle graze or catch a glimpse of the many platypus families frolicking along the river.

A fully equipped kitchen and barbeque facilities are provided but if you don't want to fuss in the kitchen, then there is a local pub offering exquisite meals only 6 kms away for that night or lunch out.

Walcha, being the nearest town, offers many cafe and lunch spots and browse through the town to look at the many various art pieces produced by award winning local talented artists and sculptures. Uralla, located on the New England Highway, is another interesting town to explore with many new boutique cafes, brewaries and wineries to taste.

RIVER COTTAGE will offer you the escape from the busy city life to unwind and curl up with a good book and relax in a newly renovated and very comfortable farm cottage.

All food and beverages

For your grocery needs if you are travelling from the east coast along the Oxley Highway, Walcha is the last town to pick up your grocery supplies. If you're coming from the north along the New England Highway, then Uralla is the last stop to pick up groceries and if you're coming from the south, then Tamworth would be the best spot to purchase your groceries before arriving. However, Walcha is a short 25 minute drive if you decide to arrive here first.

'Loloma', 127 Surveyors Creek Road, Woolbrook 2354

If you are coming from Walcha head west along the Oxley Highway for 25 kms toward Bendemeer and turn left at the Woolbrook turnoff. Drive through the village of Woolbrook veering left after the bridge, follow the road over the railway line and veer left again at the fork in the road, cross the cattle grid and drive down the road for 1 km turning left into the driveway and you are here.

If you are heading from Bendemeer on the New England Highway, again turn onto the Oxley Highway heading East and continue down the road for 25kms until you reach the turnoff for Woolbrook, turn right into the Woolbrook village and continue along the road with the same directions as before.

RIVER COTTAGE is to the left after you have entered Loloma. It will be open and you can either come to the main house first or go direct to the cottage. We will see you enter the property to welcome you.

Your hosts, Tony and Pauline will be available for anything that is needed to ensure your stay is one that will always be a highlight!

Perfect farm experience

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage with great views.

Perfect for relaxing and chilling out.

Tony is a great host. Tony took us on an estate tour and it was a fantastic experience.

I would strongly recommend a visit here.

We missed a live performance from Tony who happens to be a musician as well but would surely listen to him next time.

Cheers and 2 thums up...!!!!

Perfect country escape

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time on the farm, the house was warm and comfortable. Tony could not have been kinder to us from taking us around on a tour of the property in his ute (a favorite for our kids) to setting up a big bon fire one night and joined us by it for a beer and a chat. The children loved watching the sheep, horses, and cattle roam around doing their thing. We did some fishing along the beautiful river which was a quiet and lovely way to spend an afternoon. Thank you for letting us stay I wish you all the luck in your music endeavors as well.

Owner's Response: Hi Nathan On behalf of Tony I thank you for your wonderful review. I apologise I was not present however it appears that the "two mums" had everything under control and we are happy that you and the kids enjoyed your time here. I will pass your comments onto Tony and I can imagine that you two had some good bloke yarns to exchange! regards Pauline

Lovely country cottage

  • 5 of 5

River Cottage was lovely. The cottage was very comfortable and clean with a well equipped kitchen. We loved being on a farm, yet within proximity to Tamworth and the music festival. The highlights for the kids was swimming and canoeing in the river on the property. We hope to be back.

Beautiful, relaxing cottage - wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at River Cottage and plan to return sometime with the family. The property is beautiful and the hosts - Tony & Pauline - lovely. They made us feel so welcome and spent time showing us the property and answering our (very) numerous questions about life on the farm. We were taken around the farm in Tony's stump jumper 4WD, including river crossings and up into the paddocks. We also got to see the platypus families in the river. This would be a great place to stay year around. Rug up in winter and bring your swimmers in the warmer months. Fully recommended. Rob, Chris, Alwyn & Barb

Wonderful Weekend at River Cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely little cottage at 'Loloma' Woolbrook for that perfect getaway. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Pauline and Tony...the cottage having all the 'creature comforts' and more, went 'way beyond' our expectations and is so perfectly equipped. The wood fire warmed the cottage before our arrival and made it most welcoming - thank you Tony. The trip around the farm was thoroughly enjoyed by all who went along. Our few days there with friends was so peaceful and relaxing - the winter sunsets - just spectacular. Many thanks again Pauline and Tony - we all agreed we will definately be visiting you again. We loved it.

Owner's Response: Hi Julie and Bob We really enjoyed meeting you all and glad you came to the Woolbrook Xmas in July. The rain has kept coming down since you were here so we are really sodden in the paddocks at the moment. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Pauline

Wonderful Hosts, beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our three children thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Cottage. The cottage itself was immaculate, and provided us with everything, and more, for what we required. Our hosts, Pauline and Tony, were friendly and welcoming. They showed us the farm life, which the kids loved. Our highlight were seeing the platypuses in the river and the drive with Tony around property on Sunday morning. Thanks Pauline and Tony, we had a great time.
