Photos and Description of this Camperdown holiday house

Camperdown's Edwardia Short-stay is an authentically restored Victorian State Bank manager's residence. Everything about it invites your to relax into 1905, when Edwardia was built. Enjoy views to the town's iconic Italian clocktower from the bedrooms. Play board-games by one of the cosy, slow-combustion wood fires or dip into the extensive library of Edwardian literature, events, artwork and past-times. Play dress-ups from our Edwardian wardrobe and have high tea in the extensive drawing room. Enjoy seasonal fruit in the garden and be sure to take our internet based house tour , which tells the stories of Australia's convicts, goldminers, pioneer small-farmers and local aboriginals via the ancestral photographs and artefacts displayed on the walls..

Located in the geographical centre of a vast range of natural and historical attractions

Located in Camperdown, 40 km north of The Twelve Apostles, Edwardia provides the perfect central location for in-depth exploration of one of Australia's most interesting regions.

The 12 Apostles National Park including the Bay of Matyrs, Bay of Islands, Loch Ard gorge, The blowhole, London Bridge, penguin and sheerwater colonies and Great Ocean Walk are just 30-40 mins south.

Edwardia is located in the centre of the world Heritage listed Kanowinka Volcanic Geo-park. Camperdown's Mt. Leura lookout provides views right across a volcanic plain dotted with more than 10 extinct volcanoes and associated lakes. Camperdown's three spectacular local crater lakes offer superb fishing and water sports and zircons can be found on Lake Bullen Merri's northern shore. 15 minutes away the Noorat crater walk leads to Australia's largest (200 metres deep) dry, funnel shaped volcanic caldera. Another 5 minutes takes you to Mount Shadwell where you can fossick for the August gemstone, Peridot within volcanic bombs. There are also walks at Mts Leura, Sugarloaf, Elephant, Red Rock, Tower Hill and a fascinating drive through the Stony Rises Lava flow along Hawks Nest Road.

The Otways National Park including OtwaysTree-top Adventures, Forrest Mountain-bike trails, Paddle with the Platypus and Forrest Fungi Tours are 50 to 60 minutes South-east. The Great Ocean walk is 40 mins to the south and there are bicycle and walking rail trails 10 mins south and 50 minutes west.

Winter time whale watching, Flagstaff Hill maritime village and the tall ships light show can be experienced 40 mins west in Warrnambool and a further 20 minutes takes you to Tower Hill, where you can drive through, picnic or walk in a volcanic crater abounding with Kangaroos, emus, koalas and native birds.

Seventy-five minutes north, Sovereign Hill (75 mins north) & and the Eureka Stockade goldfield history attractions are fascinating must sees and the same time north-west takes you to the heart of the Grampians National Park.

A heritage town with spectacular lakes.

Next to Camperdown post-office in a heritage streetscape with elm and oak-lined avenues and early 20 th century commercial buildings. Camperdown nestles at the foot of a perfect volcanic cone and two spectacular crater lakes. Take the Camperdown history walk or visit the History centre and research local and family history. There are several excellent Camperdown bakeries and cafes and Thursday evening films in the theatre. Be sure to visit Camperdown's Historic Botanic Gardens, the Robbie Burns statue now located in the Corangamite shire building opposite Edwardia and the monuments to Local Aboriginals in the Camperdown cemetery and its aboriginal garden. Walzing Matilda was written after a trip to the then famous Camperdown races and may have been inspired by a massacre of aboriginals north of Camperdown.
